1. If it was Doom, it woul only like that because his real rig is so loud everyone would die, so its off behind the stage facing away. Hence two 100w ENGL heads there. It isn't like those would be quiet. Actually it is black metal, so trve tone comes from 10w SS Peavey with torn speakers, down a well. Hence needing a backdrop. Or you can use this pedal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WcsV7hQ1V4
2. I dunno why people keep saying big amps are for stadiums. Stadiums always have a PA. Big amps are for places where you need to be loud and carry your own without PA help. The directional bit of 4x12s kind of kills it but it keeps the guitarist from blasting me when I'm off to the side.
3. Start with a good clean. meths and cotton buds and spray contact cleaner. Hoover the dust out the inside.
4. See if you can replace the washer with alternatives made up of sliced up washing up liquid bottle.
5.
Ah OK then - only when you know you have a true Standby switch
Really, there isn't a reason to do it anyway, so better rule is just don't. If you plug in the amp after its on, it means you are poking around the back of a live high voltage electrical thing, which is seriously silly.
6. But it is easier to get valve like compression and harmonic distortion from valves. Which is the important thing.
7.
I played in a band with a guitarist who had an old Fender Twin 2x12. Always complained he couldn't hear himself on stage yet I saw people in the middle of the hall physically wincing when he hit a particularly agressive chord - that combo just had such a long 'throw' but little volume right up close. I had a similar thing with a Trace 4x10 once, not much up on stage but deafening at the back of the room.
It is down to the treble being directional. Point speakers at his ears instead of knees and it sorts out.
8.
What is it about a 12inch speaker that is so appealing? Do they need the surface area to push air? That's a rhetorical question by the way And what is it about 4x12's? I see them routinely used in small pubs. Why do they need so many speakers?
There aren't really many good guitar speakers that aren't 12 inch. Especially if you judge them by who used them in the day.
9. Kind of a bad assumption because some amps have a switch market standby that is actually just a mute, since muting is the main useful function of a standby switch.
10.
I don't understand why. All you need to do is stick the pics on Photobucket and link to them... or am I missing something?
Missing that some people can't operate complicated things like computers, information, and suchlike, but still assume they have the right to do so.
11. I google the item numbers on some of my more interesting items, to see if people on forums are giving away things I should put into the listing, found one where people were complaining about there only being one pic, whilst there was a whole album of pics in the middle of the listing. Uusually find its worth mesaging and asking for pics with an email, because uploading can be hard for some people.
12. So is that area any different between valve and solid state amps?
13. I count it as doing a favour for the people that paid to get in not the numpty who doesn't maintain his equipment.
14.
unless you can afford the very best Ampegs.
This bit kind of gives away that the rest isn't right. Ampegs are not very good amplifiers, but they are very valvey with all the distortion, compression and limitations that valves do. The brand mean nothing but excessive price. You can get much more hifi valve amps that are much harder to tell from solid state by listening, but usually the value of the valves is in the limitations and errors. Also it is all about voltage, because it is voltage that makes speakers accelerate.
15. Just spotted this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Marshall-super-bass-lead-clone-100w-guitar-amp-kit-/220936892478?pt=UK_MusicalInstr_Amplifiers_RL&hash=item3370dd703e Can't recomend it since carbon comp resistors 'tone mojo' is what gives you amps sounding like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGAOjFLCmJE
16. Buy a dead one and rebuild it.
17. Pulled because it sold off ebay most likely. Thing ebay are being cautious post violin smashing.
18. There isn't enough air in the box for this to get loads of low end. The other one, with the slightly wonky speakers? Should be able to get plenty of lows with the right speakers. Better using the 2x15 for lows and the 4x15 with a small driven amp for awesome driveyness.
19. What sort of sound are you after? Basically, if you want lots of bottom, sell this and get a different cab, if you want agressive middly, then some sort of guitar 15s or ones that go quite high. also what amp are you using?
20. Start with pics and description of the cab. This teh 4x15 with inward facing speakers and a bottom port? Middly guitar 15s are probably your best bet, since the box isn't nearly big enough for any bottom end.
21.
having decent/appropriate gear for teaching.
"Hi, I'd like to learn doom bass please." "Sigh" [begins piling up amps]
22. Crank the mids then sweep the frequency till it sounds really unmissably obnoxious while everyone is playing, then cut it back till it is audible but less offensive
23. I've totally stripped and refinished a bass because it reeked of weed. I have a frankenstein Gretsch/Grimshaw F-hole archtop that totally reeks for smoke, and not much I can do about that. So I sold it.
24.
This is the problem with investing in something that has an inherent and significant time lag before it comes on stream. The strategic position will be improved, but yes, there may be a few worried investors out there.
Or the Chinese exploiting the workings of capitalist economy, further investors get spooked, the whole plan falls over and is mothballed again, China jacks the price again. Makes good sense, if you are China. Not even like it was a slow turnover.
