1. The 12/126 is equivalent to the Barefaced Big Twin, so £960 with tweeter and neo surcharge.
2. Dunno what are in there by default, but changing some ECC83 for ECC81 is the way to clean up.
3. Only power up breakup is avoided with low volume. The preamp is going to be running as hard wherever the master is. And the Ampeg pre is pretty fiddly with gain stages, so bunches of valve colour.
4. Limited eq make it hard to totally duff up the sound, that seems to figure fairly highly. The harmonics thing makes frequencies you think you should hear become apparent in the frequencies you actually hear. compression and distortion smooth out a lot of unpleasantness.
5.
Any takers? Christmas is coming and this would look good under the tree. "Here you go love, for you..." "What the f**k is this?!?!?!"
Totally the story of how you got this, and subsequent amps.
6. Best way to get Ampeg tone is Sansamp VT bass. The other way involves expensive amps very loudly.
7. Volume difference between 160 and 200 isn't much, the problem comes in when you pay for 200w and only get 160w. Also they look silly without massive speakers.
8. If it is the right price, you can try it, and if it doesn't work, move it on and get a real Matamp. Bit of pre valve swapping can alter the headroom a bunch, and will probably achieve what you are after.
9. Much better off sticking the whole assembly into a new sleeve. There is arcane science to the layout so no bit picks up hum and interference from the other bit, reason why the transformer is away from the rest and such.
10. Tempted to convert one of mine now, just add two octave strings.
11.
If you think the CD is all of his amps recorded and mixed together, then reproduced out of one amp... you don't need two amps if you get your blending right.
But the colour of the SVT cabs is a big part of the sound, so you'll have to get that in there somehow, then use uncoloured reproduction. Also, CD is stereo, so two amps, dunno if the left and right is identical mix of amps.
12.
But I agree with k d lang when she said you don't have to be miserable to write songs.
If I wrote music being a smug a-hole about how awesome stuff is going for me, full of widdly bits, disco and pinch harmonics, people would get angrier than a Slayer concert.
13. Digital photographs are your friend. All the ones on my blog weren't taken for it, they were in case I cocked up.
14. If nothing crap has happened to me or falling out on me from it happening to someone close to me, music doesn't really happen for me. Horrible things are bound up in the Caricatures album. Everything is going smooth for me at the moment, so I'm being extraordinarily uncreative, and working on my technique and gear, ready for when it does come. Mostly other peoples gear, my gear rules. Recent stuff I've been playing is arrangements of stuff I wrote when things were crap.
15. This one sold. The new Matamp is tempting me, as can use it as a pre for my slave, and keep it all Matamp, whilst still having the lightweight option. So other one is up for sale at same price, scruffier, but works as well, with KT88s in it:
16. Be interesting to try two VT bass with different settings into multiple inputs or whatever way of mixing. Guvnor might figure in there too.
17. Bringing them up should be fine, going down might be a bit dodge and dunno what they'll bottom out on. Cracked the resin stuff on a dimarzio one like that.
18. The Matamp one is supposed to be in a Minimat box, so pretty small.
19. Just to show the difference between raw and finished (mostly cause I haven't side by sided yet):
20. Ha, I was looking at the listing thinking it looks to have plenty of grain going on. Gonna fret one?
21. Scratchplate caving in is the thing otehr than tail lift, it isn't laminated and is over massive holes with protruding bits.
22. Kind of meant "Badly finished and an unfinished scratchplate." = authentic. Not much point in downgrading to Rick hardware either. Buy upgrade stuff, from Hipshot (and me).
23. That is a pretty damn nice find. Did the tech snaffle all the nice old vales out of it?
