1. Packing was pretty bad, hence hole in the box. This bit is loose:
2.
Whether it's worth the argument is another thing entirely.
More about whether you like being dicked. They know they have no right to charge the fee, but people pay it anyway, so that is good business. they have a policy of refunding it if you send the letter back to them. Somehow word of this hasn't filtered through to front line phone bods. Anyway, arrived today:
3. Bit more to bass cabs than bass speaker sin a box, need a big box, and often a port to have any low end, then you have to tune the port. Be alright for guitary sounding bass with a guitar amp, with no bottom as is. Its only when you try and eq the bass in or use a bass amp that you get problems.
4.
A wishbass, huh? So, have I got this right - two of you grab hold and pull till it snaps, and the one holding the biggest bit wins?
If you think you can snap laminated maple and purpleheart as thick as my arm.
5. Well, just called the depot, and they decided to not put it in a van today.
6. If you have the MAG 1x15 that is the same box as the 2x10, a kappalite 3015 works pretty damn well in it. Since is same box, you could probably put a new baffle in, but effort.
7. Spend today tailing Eltham Jones at his workshop, in theory painting a fence and waxing his car. Mostly picking his brain as to the best ways to tackle this thing. I'll be on it Friday probably, once the gig is done.
8. Pretty sure the Kappa is a bass speaker. The Delta 12 worked in the little ported EB150-12 I had. The Kappa is almost definitely bad. Line and stuff the box while the speaker is out, makes a surprising improvement.
9. See other thread for the fight to get Parshole Force to admit their admin fee isn't tax or duty. But according to their email it arrived today. I don't actually have it though.
10. Should report all of these marked 'used' or 'seller refurbished' as intentionally misdescribed, keep ebay busy so I get a chance at these rickenfakers.
11. Unless you want quite a lot of bottom/volume without much power, super 15 might be bit overkill. I'm using pretty low powered amps with it, with lots of watts, it keeps getting louder, that bit of Ampeggy drive that knocks up the percieved volume would make for really obnoxious volume (which is my thing, but I got neighbour complaints playing a 70w amp on two, in an industrial estate).
12. Staple pickups are really common on jap copies.
13. Cheap for a reason CMI jazz. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OLD-60S-VINTAGE-CMI-JAZZ-BASS-GUITAR-MIJ-JAPAN-Project-spares-repair-/250913016191?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item3a6b94c97f
14. +1 on make one, can do really well for simple box and a tube to tune it.
15. Its not as big and heavy as a Sound City 120, and I've shipped a few of those, its not a massive deal if you want to get something sold.
16. Shipping valve amps isn't a massive deal. Just look out for poly blocks and bubbelwrap, and a big enough box.
17. If it does get dumped, can you at least unscrew the handles? I don't want them, but seems like a useful thing.
18. Replacing the speakers isn't a case of fitting it to the box an enjoying your extra watts. The new speaker might not suit the box at all and sound totally duff. If those are the sealed boxes, the Eminence Legend B810 might sort you though.
19. Hmm, wonder if they are actually shipping within the UK, the only exciting thing about guitar center is sometimes their second hand stuff is excessively cheap in the states. If they've jsut set up a mailorder warehouse here, that would kill that.
20.
Guitar centre are claiming that their price is the delivered price (including duty) and that there are no fees to pay on delivery. Presumably they are included in the price.
Its nothign to do with them, its HMRC nailing you for tax and duty.
21. And handling fee: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/157785-you-import-vatparcelforce/
22. That one is lsited on here, for more money, so is a BCer but not one who actually uses the forum, or understands the concept of lsiting free on BC = sell cheaper than ebay: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/157496-ibanez-rik-4005-japan-1970s-copy-bass/page__hl__ibanez__fromsearch__1
23. I've paid £150 for a total rebuild of an old dirty trashed amp, and £120 to lose a slight hum and revlave with valves I supplied (involved full recap and new sockets). I always supply a lengthy list of demands, so generally I can see the time that goes into it.
24. Other drummer wasn't especially inclined to be helpful, but said hired kit, so can have for the hire cost. Drummer was skint, so guitarist says he'll pay if drummer does all the rest of the carrying for him. Drummer assumes position at this kit provided by the generosity of several people who already think he is a prick, plays a roll across the drums, looks at me as says "Sounds a bit sh*t doesn't it?" whereupon I call him a prick too. Then we play the gig, promoter refuses to pay us because were are all pricks, and everyone quits the band cause we don't want to be in a band with that drummer any more.
