OK, so two of them are signed up but barely post (Bunjy and ChiSeerkind), but on average we have a lot of posts. They are doing their thing, and since its the debut of the band, I'm not fully sure what that thing is, but likely to be heavy. I'm doing what is in theory a solo bass and amps and effects noise thing, but likely to have a vocalist along and make things a bit interesting as well as deafening. Time: 20 October · 18:30 - 23:30 Location: The Croft - front bar 117-119 Stokes Croft Thread - Bristol noise veterans return to make a lot of noise in a small room. <p>
Eurgh.... I got one of these recently to fulfil all my Bladrunner fantasies. Much cheaper. http://www.iwantoneofthose.com/lightblade-umbrella/index.html
</p> <p> </p> <div>
Not only does this brolly cheer me up on a wet weekday it also provides me with great fun during thunder storms. Step 1. keep your brolly up without the light on. Step 2. wait for a flash of lightning and flick the switch. Step 3. wobble about a bit and let off a high pitched yell Step 4. watch as the people around you start to panic. Evil I know but most amusing )
</div>
I thought it was to do with the tension across modern electric strings as opposed to acoustic classical ones. Say if there is movement in the neck (humidity changes, etc.) would it just be a case of nut and bridge adjustment?
The necks basically don't move. It is big, and laminated various woods. Purpleheart is ridiculously hard and stiff. The neck is like an oversized classical neck or DB neck. The tension on a DB is massive. It isn't a neck for people who like tiny necks. My previous one never shifted much, had that for a few years. Even in the really damp House of Bass.
-
Make the neck right and not bendy and you don't need a truss rod to correct it. Truss rods are for mass production where you can't watch your materials. See first post though, it is an optional. Double basses and classical guitars don't have truss rods.

Depending on how sick I am of doing it when I've done this one, might do a finish on Wishbasses for money. I've found it satisfying to do thus far. Also, if you want the cool purple wood, order soon, cause he isn't buying any more and going to all domestic woods.
-
The strings are too high at the moment, I ordered it as a blank pretty much, all the fettling and such is down to me to do. I tnd to move the strings closer to the center of the board so I can do slight bends for dissonance in either direction.
-
Not sure why that's like that, but they are all coming off for the finish anyway, they are too tall for the through neck, so probably have to route them in a bit. Fitting a bridge was a bonus.
Was it a Mazeti? I can only find a pic of a little guitar, but I'm sure I saw a bass version of this:
Thats what I'm thinking of. For whatever reason, googling image searching 'Mazeti bass' brings up a picture of my hand holding a rectifier valve.

I have a mate teaching music in Bahrain for the last few years, could probably sort you with an email address for a conversation. PM me.

I remember seeing a bass where the headstock was just a central post with the machine heads either side poking through, so the keys point backward. Can't find a picture of it now. Kind of like if you turned a slotted headstock inside out so they poked right through. On an otherwise mundane bass. Anyone find a pic?

Responded to my ad for a BC rich body with one 'in good working condition and in perfect order', didn't really think that through.

[Gone] Bargain gothic thunderbird

Another one cheap here, not as crazy cheap: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Epiphone-Gothic-Thunderbird-Bass-Guitar-NR-Korean-/110751269613?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item19c94a42ed -
The later an slightly more interesting one. I'm picked up a few normal ones with P pickup and bent tin bridge in states for about £60-90 and clean them up and sell for £130-£150. I dunno if the funny hardware is a plus or not cause it makes it less compatible with fender type upgrades. They have sold more slowly of late, downturn I guess.
The US Plexi Palace site has a UK amps section with a lot of the more "obscue" amps in it, WEM, Vamp etc. You'll be sure to find an expert there but I think they maybe have a rule about newbie's asking for valuations. Worth a pop though, I sold a Vamp half-stack to a guy in Australia thru that forum.
If you wanna pm some details I can post the question, not such a newbie there any more.

Unlike most bassists talked about a lot here, DD Verni comes across as a kind of abrasive dude. Maybe that's a factor, Jeff Berlin mostly only gets mentioned when he's said somehting to look like a dick. Not heard much from the other rare mentioned.
-
Old big cabs don't make much money sadly. Probably well to get more than £200 for it, and that will take ages. What speakers are in it? Might go better seperately.
-
The nut width is optional, as is the truss rod. They are custom basses, you ask for what you want.
