1. Pressed chassis makes pretty much no odds to the spec, it could be an OEM equivalent in the ways that matter.
2. Spent a bunch more time fidling with the action on this, as some guy asked for it low, and I had it set more me, not very low (for finger strength building). Only after I did this, and photoed it from every angle did he reveal he was in London, and wanted to send it back if the action wasn't to his taste. Wally. But has a nicer setup now.
3. Since Ebay now put these where you won't generally see them, figure might be good for a heads up:
10 August, 2011 | 04:15PM BST Hello, Here’s a reminder of the updates we announced in July which are going live soon. Read through the list below to see what you need to do, and when. Electronics: list using eBay catalogues in more categories From 23 August 2011, we’re increasing the number of Electronics categories in which you should list your items with matching products from an eBay catalogue. Vehicles Parts and Accessories: 1 listing for all compatible cars From mid October 2011, you’ll be able to show all the cars that are compatible with your item in one listing. Category and item specifics changes: update your listings to help increase sales In the week beginning 22 August 2011, we’re introducing changes to help make it easier and quicker for buyers to find your items, helping you to increase sales. Rewarding top quality service: Increased stability for eBay Top-rated sellers From 20 October, we’ll be introducing greater stability for eBay Top-rated sellers. eBay Top-rated sellers will get a grace period to bring their performance back up to standard without losing their status and benefits if they fall to Above Standard. eBay Buyer Protection cases: incentive for early resolution From 31 August 2011, if a buyer opens an eBay Buyer Protection case without first contacting you via My eBay messages and you resolve it to the buyer’s satisfaction, within 3 working days, the case may be excluded from your seller performance evaluation. We’re also reducing the time before a buyer can refer a case to eBay from 10 to 8 calendar days. Many cases are already resolved within 8 calendar days and this change should not affect the majority of sellers. Giving you space to write better item titles In September, the number of characters available for your item title will increase from 55 to 80 characters. Specify postage costs to US, Canada and Australia From late August 2011, if you specify the postage costs to the US, Canada and Australia, you may appear in the standard search results of those countries’ eBay sites, helping you to reach millions more international customers. Regards, The eBay Team
4. Local tech told me one of his mates took a block of some super low friction substance from work, thinking it would be ideal for a nut, you could put it on a smooth surface and blow on it and it would slide along. Next time he saw him, his han was all bandaged. He'd been trying to cut it, and couldn't get a grip on it, an slipped and carved himself up.
5. Modernest valve rig ever. Rackmount? Digitech? Multieffects? Parametric eq?
6. I saw the pic and was reading wondering how your gear tried to chop you up an you ducked and it only got a cable.
7. I'll come if the Bristol crew can give me a lift.
8.
I asked if I could buy a new dial for my Peacemaker 20 (guitar amp) but got no reply. It's the same dial used on all their amps so I thought I would be able to get one from them. Sadly not
Try asking Hayen, they cover the guitar stuff now.
9. Masking tape the area around your soldering so errant flying bits don't mar your finish.
10. Maybe I didn't point out this is a set neck enough? Someone on gumtree just asked if he could buy just the neck. So to make clear, the neck on this is glued in from new, like a real Gibson.
11.
Check out neodymium magnets on ebay. They are tiny and fiendishly strong. They can be the size of the small rubber feet on some pedals. Just bought some 6mm neodymium magnets for another project (holding up curtains in my camper van). For example, a 6mm x 3mm disk shaped magnet has a pull of over a kilo. Not sure what they would do to the electronics though.
And in 6 months you can flip them for a profit.
12. Is this some kind of disgusting joke? I love that Marco Minnemann looks to be having so much fun drumming.
13. Make your guitarist tune up. If you don't have a stupid detuned guitarist, you don't need to detune.
14. So frustrating that every time I see a telebass neck, it boasts about being slim. I want massive. I'm going to have to order another Wishbass.
15. Well, this pile is Ashown blue ones. But I do have a Gauss 18 with a rub.
16. Got a bit of a pile of them now. Aside from finding dropper screws, are they fit only for the bin?
17. Probably best off swapping in one of those Artec preamps ready made, someone will probably buy the Westone preamp.
18. bought a job lot of scrapper guitars for spare. This was among them, covered in stickers, paint and grub. I've cleaned it up, but the paint round the edges was thick textured stuff, which basically risked going through the real finish to remove. So it has pink splodges round the edge, and some more that is felt tipped over. Aside from that, seems to be a serviceable instrument. Set neck, arched top, sounds fine, tuners aren't total junk like I expected, pleasantly surprised when I restrung it. Might look out for a tidier one of these for when I feel the urge for a LP. Because it is scruffy, £50 with shiny new heavy strings. Post is a bit of a pain due tot he set neck, but suppose I can for £15.
19. The preamps in these put out loads of noise as they are which will feed the power section, and without a load, it throws off the equilibrium of the amp so it can go into oscillation (like mine was doing, putting out about 5hz, so I could see me speakers going in and out) and drive itself to full tilt. Basically, in an ideal world with a perfectly working and designed amp it would be fine, but also it would be plugged into a load. If you want a SC, I have one going that is totally rebuilt, pretty much using them without a fair bit of rebuilding is mistreatment, there are a few time sensitive components, like the resistors an the capacitors and the valves. An dirt sensitive ones like the pots and the switches. And dropping sensitive ones like the chassis and the box. And the transformers don't like being switched to wrong voltage or impedance respectively. The turret board and wires seem fine though.
20.
Folk keep mentioning the di? Surely good desks have pad and gain controls. Our Allen and Heath certainly does....
I think it is about 40db of pad you need.
21. Actually I just remembered these guys existed, and the mini bass is funny and an excuse to post this.
22.
'Ang on a minute, you've lost me. Are you talking about the Laney Klipp or the Carlsboro Stingray? I didn't break the Stingray and it's that that I meant wasn't rare enough, I assumed you meant the Stingray when you said they weren't really rare because it said they were rare on that Ebay page. I didn't break it, I just hated it. It was the Laney that I broke and I loved that.
The Sound City in the original post is the one I'm referring to. 'Rare' is part of the very limited description. I know they aren't rare because I have 9 of them sat about my house. Might be able to sort out a new rebuilt Klipp for you going forward.
