1. I guess the simple answer to the original question is because he didn't want to learn his way around a whole new bass. There is a lot to be said for familiarity of an instrument.
2.
OMG I can't believe you said that! You surely don't mean that all those guitarists who lay out £££s for alnico are wasting their money? You'd better tell Celestion to drop the price of their Blue series
There are reasons we refer to them as guitards. They still use those cabs with 4 big speakers in a square shape, and then stand right against it.
3.
I believe these guys are worth a look: http://www.chambonino.com/

Hello everybody, due to other commitments at the moment, I am very sorry but I am unable to deal with any emails or phone calls until further notice. I will however, when time allows, be putting some new and interesting articles on the site soon. Thank you for your understanding on this. Cheers, John.
If you can make it to Sheffield, Umph on here is my go to guy (and I'm in Bristol).
4. I see a pile of junk with chrome on. Could be a Rick.
5. If someone takes this for the £50, I'll throw in a working eminence beta 10, and a celestion 10 with a slight buzz. suppose you could use it to record that broken speaker Sabbath/Stranglers sound. I'll wired them in for you too if you want.
6. Columbus jazz £50 BIN and will post, grab it fast.
7.
the 'best' sound can only be achieved by using exotic woods, hand-wired valve amps and fancy cabs then it will almost certainly affect your listening experience.
That just made me think, how come you can buy a hand wired valve amp for so much less than a fancy bass, especially since whilst you can only play one bass at a time, you can play many valve amps at a time (and should). I guess it is a skill thing, monkeys can handwire valve amps.
8. They do cut the low, and they respond very well to valve changes. Good if you do the clean blend thing. I'm sort of looking out for a cheap one.
9. When he gets a bit older, he's going to wish he got good at playing the sort of music girls his age like.
10.
Apologies if I havent read every post in the feedback section, but does anyone ever leave bad feedback (a la Ebay)? To me, that would be just as useful as good feedback in some cases, but i guess there is a protocol to take into account.
I've seen bad feedback once, because I checked someone's feedback before doing a deal, I asked them about it and was satisfied with their explanation.
11. Surprised it hasn't run out already, not like it grows on trees is it?
12. This will be my testing stuff amp till it sells, it is dinky and valvey. £85 with its nice cover, which has kept it pretty much pristine.
13. Turns out 4 out of 5 pre valves in the 5150 were dying, making it sound of wrong. Replaced those and the power valves have all been checked and are good, so now it is freshly teched (had my tech mate come and do it, I can recommend Justin/Subthumper at Heron Music).
14. A few BCers have ha a go on my one of these now, they should chip in with how good and valvey these sound.
15. They are definitely appreciated for their messiness rather than their faithful tracking.
16. Is it bone conduction throwing you off, because of the speed of soun in bone and the inside of your ear binging moved from the wrong side?
17. Chap called me as his head was broken, and he needed a new rig. Turns out all his cabs were broken. So he is losing this one and repseakering the 15 with some WinISD fun. So this cab need to go. Both the blue speakers read open circuit, so you can take it with or without them, it has the grill an stuff, but I haven't put it back on since I'll need to either put the one speaker back, or take the other one out. Since I have to state a price, I'll say £50, but hit me up with offers.
18. I have a Whirlwind cable I bought from a clash roady about 10 years ago, he showed me a photo of Joe Strummer with his son who was there at the time, because I looked doubtful about the Clash connection. It was probably old then, it has been totally reliable, and I still reach for it when demoing amps to people.
19. Every for sale thread is an individual entity, but every fingers vs. pick thread is the same thing. So there being more for sale threads seems correct. I come for the GAS, I stay for the being an internet know-it-all.
20. If you gift, paypal takes the fees from your side rather than from the payment. It doesn't lose paypal fees, there are various circumstances where there are no fees, like if you have funds in paypal, or have set up direct debit.
21. Important thing when going to a tech is ask for what you want, not for what you think will achieve what you want. They will likely know better than you, so if you ask for shielding, you get shielding, ask for the hum fixed, and if they shield it and it doesn't fix the hum, you can say they didn't do what you payed them to.
22. WinISD pro Alpha is the one to use.
23. Looks like a good starter set, those Yammy basses are fine after a setup, two amps could be the start of great things, pedal is a bonus. Would probably offer £100 for it, which is cheap, but I'm tight like that, probably won't go for much more at auction, but split it up and it would make a little more.
24. I reckon the mass of steel would shift dead spots around compared to not, but the stiffness shouldn't be an issue unless you are gonna shave the neck Geddy style.
