1. Can go direct, but needs a lot of juice for full volume. The VT bass into this has awesome girth.
2. Here Sort of think might be a mad bargain for someone interested in novelty basses.
3. Don't remember how many poles it is, probably double, you can tell by looking, how many sets of three contacts are poking out of the switch underneath, just get one of those from the internet somewhere, or Maplins type store.
4. The switch on those is poor. I'd change it before trusting it.
5.
Stevie, if you enlarge the hole between the long ports and the main enclosure it would become a conventional ported box. If you blocked that hole it would indeed become a TL. But the fact that that hole acts as a second port changes everything! It's quite a fine detail though, had to read the patent to see it...
Where does the hole stop being a port and just being a hole? Like with half open back cabs, is that a giant port tuned really high to the point where it makes no odds, or is there a point where it ceases to be?
6.
Cheers for the heads up on the free eBay listing, might pop it on if I remember! At work at the mo' I think the ampeg I'm selling is sold, meant to be picked up next week, so in a week I might be withdrawing it and keeping it If I do I'm gonna get it flightcased and keep it in the tip top condition it is. It's almost 40 yr old, so it's only gonna get worth more! Saying that, we've got you flooding the Market to deal with at some point
I'm not gonna flood the market. Trickle them out slow, between rigging them all up and using them for Warrior Pope gigs (assuming that project takes off once I put effort into it again).
7. What is the preamp noise like on this? The MKIVs have the bad rep for it, which pulls down the price some, but if this doesn't have it, there is no reason for it to be tarred with the same brush. Should make more fuss about the Mullards if you want it sold, free ebay listing this weekend, so stick it up overpriced with mullard in the title, and someone might offer you.
8. The ratio of harmonics depends pretty heavily on the sampling point I think. As in the pickup position.
9. Back in the day I defretted my firs tbass, because that is what you do when you get your second bass. A friend lent me Jaco Pastorius, and I was listening to it an not really getting it. My housemate, who had some musical education (then realise he should probably get a degree in something he could live off) id at one point say 'that sounds like that CD.' So that fretlesss sound, devoid of skill or ability does link up to Jaco pretty easily.
10. Need to move some big things as the amp pile is taking up all my space. This one needs to ahve guitar played through it, much too precious about the speakers to risk them with bass: Cockney rebel stencil and Hiwatt speakers: Spec: £500 or near offer, collection would be looked on favourably with offers.

12. The 'grand' part was a joke. Sorry potential amp buyers.
13. I'd say they are worth around a grand each, anything less and you have yourself a bargain, amp buyers. Basically, I have a strong interest in them reaching high prices, which isn't entirely beneficial to the basschat community of people who like playing nice amps. Those mullards represent a lot of value independent of the amp, if you want money, sell those separately, and stick some Shuguangs in there, and you still have yourself a fine working amp. One of mine, fixed up and working, I would want more than £400 for, and that would be without mullards (modern valves though, and all new parts, bulletproofed for gigging purposes). I probably wouldn't get that for them, but I'm cheerful to sit on them and wait till I can. I got a little over 400 for the working but not ideal one I sold previously, international shipping is what really pushes up the value.

16. Mesas are biased to take pretty crappy valves, so Mesa can sell you pretty crappy valves with Mesa branding. Mesa buy them wherever is cheapest so they aren't even consistent among themselves. Valves work fine with a layer of fog machine grease on them thick enough wiping leaves grooves. Smell funny though.
17. If you amp sounds bad, have a rebias before changing tubes, it drifts with time as they wear in. I think too many good valves get replaced when they've actually just reached a stable point.
18. Here's a significantly cheaper quad of power valves for you.
19.
decoupling capacitors need to be larger or amp has inherent design flaw.
Are these the 0.047uf, 400v mustards roughly between the pre and power sections? It was suggested I replace these.
20. If that is 30w that would be EL84 not EL34, 4 of those gives around 100w. I got a set of 6 EL34 for £66 delivered. It is more of a case of a rebias after a year or so than actual tube death.
21. Would out of spec resistors in the pre cause the oscillation? That's the problem rather than noise, the noise is ok currently.
