1.
My dad has a heap of old heads gathering dust in the loft, including a couple of Sound Cities. I must pull them out and have a look. He also has a cute little thing called a Nolan. Anyone familiar with them? Looks 70s.
I had a Nolan, it was a Marshall knock off, but made with higher quality components than Marshalls, Partridge transformer, Hiwatt type head sleeve. Let me know when you pull out those amps.
2. Gibson are bad at putting bridges in the right place, their guitars suffer from it too. Also making necks that work properly. But they have gibson written on them, so people still buy.
3. Probably should try some high end valve rigs, instead of bunch of low bidder stuff to compare with a high end SS rig.
4. Your views aren't worth a damn to anyone until they know who you are to put them in context, and the only way for us to know who you are is to engage with the forum. Right now, mostly what Is ee of you is making excuses for spamming the place up, not building great respect for your position.
5. Endorsers are for when products aren't so good the speak for themselves. When a product is good enough to speak for itself, send one round so we can try it.
6.
ouch! Like why - now I have no idea at all but would guess if this is car/bike stereo technology (hence the twin input and output) that it would be optimised to roll of most the bass - I mean if you're on a bike I can't imagine you get many low end woofers.... My guess its a typo and roll off at 40 Hz (or around) with the focus on the mids giving a nice hifi clean tone with little low end - a bit like a low fi version of the hi fi monitor I started a thread about last month.
For recorded music, it is already high passed. Wasn't a typo because it was a graph they posted, because of us techies asking for proper info. I suspect they don't really understand what they posted. Annoyingly the thread got pulled, I assume due to commercial.
7.
So, then, absolutely no professional player with an endorsement can comment on anything they use with any credibility? Guess Victor Wooten's opinion on Fodera, or Billy Sheehan's opinions on Hartke, or any of the Warwick bass team carry any cred whatsoever?
Vic Wooten endorses a power cable that improves tone. That says enough. Billy Sheehan endorses Scientology. I've dealt with Warwick some, and not impressed with them either.
8. Got a bit of fun with the corners too, the edges catch where they don't sit flat on the textured surface. Maybe put the on, or at least make an impression for them, when finish is still soft?
9.
with some built in power optimisation to get the most out of it...
According to the spec posted on another forum, the amp goes down to 4hz or something, so pretty far from optimised, what with 4 octaves of wasted power below audible. High passing is pretty key to amps working well.
10. I've ordered red mahogany stain, but the guitar behind it and the red binding is making me consider raspberry stain.
11.
And I always got nagged to earth every bit of ,metal but was warned that a faulty amp can send power up the earth line I've not seen that but I'm a noobie to such things happening
Only an issue if the earth in the amp is disconnected,, it means you and the guitar become the earth path, the idea of the earth if is there is such a fault, there is a path for the current to go and the fuse will blow. The guitar is supposed to be earthed.
12. Shielding is good, saves copper lining. Might be better off using unetched PCB blank though.
13. Leeds Roost I had was chipboard, that might have got wet, and be rotting. All the grotty smokey valve amps I've had have sorted out with a good clean. Soap and water and lots of scrubbing outside, meths and swabs inside.
14. Stanley blades. I should get a cabinet scraper set, but I've been doing stuff with them for so long, pretty used to it.
15. Worked the middle through to expose all of the through neck, think will make a feature of it, stain it darker to accentuate, but not black like I planned:
16. Was scraping it back with blades, more control, but this got the palm sander. I'm debating black stain or natural now. Considering natural came up because I can't find my black stain.
17. Got this sort of from ebay, turned out to be a BCer, to made alternate arrangements involving less fees. At some point someone had done a terrible refin of the top, with lumpiness and bits of wood showing through. So I figured strip it back and start again. When I got to the middle, interestingly it had no through neck showing, must have a top cap of really boring wood. By the time I'd taken it back far enough to lose the horrible gouges their removal of the original finish had left, I find the through neck: More fun to make that not look silly now.
18. With actual written warning about the specific bass on the sellers account, can't really help some people.
19. Round needle file. The bigness makes things much easier than doing guitar nuts. Edit: Chances are you'll have less tension in BEAD with bottom 4 of a 5 string set.
20. Current owners of the Hiwatt name and the Hiwatt that made the reputation are two separate and basically unrelated entities, so have to be clear on which side of that you are occupying.
21. Had a count up recently, over 60 amps, mostly bought sub £300 aside from massive ones and big name jobs.
22. See links in sig. But the LB30 is one, after £350 for mine with a cover.
23. 0 Feedback, one good, one bad. The bad one says:
Westone Bass seriously bad condition, Fingerboard coming away multiple chips
but relisted with no mention of such issues: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/westone-bass-guitar-thunder-3/121150485518?_trksid=p2047675.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D16728%26meid%3D179097361264654522%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D7906%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D3%26sd%3D121150214140%26
