Sound City wiring is totally dreadful, that is why those guys left. They are good beefy valve amps, made of quality components (in the day), but the wiring is definitely the letdown. The MK4s (the common ones) are pretty noisy, especially as often the phase inverter valve is switched to a higher gain one (should be an ECC81, but often an ECC83/12AX7 goes there, because it fits). Basically, get it, get a full service by a competent tech, and you are good to go. It isn't uncommon to find a proper mess inside where people have tried to fix the noisy preamp. A good tidy up and right valves sorted the noise in the one I have to an acceptable level, and I have another sat with the tech right now.

Early Mo Clifton Electric Upright

Emailed the man himself about this:
Hi Oli, It looks like one I made for Allen Walley in 1993. It should be a perfectly good bass and the price is about right. (now £2100 new for one with body facing) There would have been a knee rest originally but that's not necessary for a lot of players playing standing up. (although sitting on a stool it's vital) Try Duncan's to see if you need the rest. About £100 if you do. Original Fishman still fitted - should be ok. Hole in front was probably for attaching hiprest when packing in case. let me know how you get on. I'm in France 'till end of June so can't make anything 'till july.
-

Those deep Peavey 4x10s definitely have something, beefy for a cheapy, but more modern, more expensive cabs can do that, but lighter.

I'm pretty tempted by that. Looks kind of Entwhistle.

He'll definitely make his price once he has a bad feedback.

Acme Low B2 is exactly that.
The problem with allthe older generation of valve heads is that they were designed to sit on top of 4x12 cabinets and so are very wide, which in turn makes them difficult to carry if you are small like me. A smaller overall size but the same weight is not a problem as long as the hanle is in the right place. Marshall made an 18W small box head which is an ideal size. Even my SC 50PA cab is an acceptible size, so when I say small-ish, I don't mean tiny. For use with the modern generation of bass speakers and look proportionally correct a cab should not be wider than say 17-inches.
The SC120s are in an oversized box, there is space at the ends, if the 50 is the same, could be rehoused in a smaller package, with lighter wood. There was a thread with a retailer asking for suggestions as to what we wanted in a bass head, see how that developed because a lot of your tickboxes were suggested in the thread. Edit: this thread.
Sadly I can't list anything as punishment they have barred me from selling....
I can still sell, and so can just about everyone else, that is the ideal, we all list your bass, optimistic price, so should be trouble with more than one selling (if one does sell, win for you).
Edit: Actually thinking about it I have a collection of PDF templates but as yet never found a Ricky one. I have seen a number of posts on other forums of folks looking the same. Any one with a ricky, measuring stick and good enough with software to do one up . :brow: Now that would piss him off
That would be supplying the means to counterfeit and would be illegal under UK law, so pulling those would be fair.

There is a valve swapping thread which might tidy up the Terror. Problem with guitar amps isn't the watts, it is the small transformers that can't pass low end and the power supply. My valve amps are all massive, so can't really help more than that. Maybe get Umph to make you a 2xKT88 thing.

Trace V-Type is good if you like simple. Peavey Maxx is also good for a bit more fiddly.
And quite right too, if I had the spare funds I'd snatch your hand off. Unfortunately you're fighting two huge corprorations, in cahoots with each other while it suits them.
RIC is a tiny corporation. That is why the man himself is replying. That is why not that many people putting some effort in can make things a real pain in the ass for them if they want to be dicks about it. This weekend is free listing, send around pics of your bass to everyone and we can all list it. Maybe he'll have a nervous breakdown.

Fender put the Sunn badge on some lines, then later made it all Fender badged.
I have not seen your instrument but if it is shaped anything like our instruments- head, body, pickguard, pickups, logo plate- it would be covered by a variety of U.S. and E.C. trademark registrations. A number of John Birch instruments I have seen in the past infringe these rights and sale of them would be unlawful. It doesn’t matter when or where it was made nor where you reside. Should you require further advice, I would refer you to any one of the qualified IP lawyers you have there in the U.K.
This bit isn't true, laws are specific to countries, and they are what make things illegal. The is no law against selling something that looks a bit like something else here, if you aren't passing it off, or selling it as a means to make copies. I am legally qualified, and IP was my strongest subject, although I'm not a lawyer. We faker fans should have a whip round to get a letter from a proper IP Lawyer, it won't cost loads, anyone know one/is one?

Bear in mind certain eras of Ampeg 8x10 have the very dark speakers, all the bottom of a sealed cab (as in not what you like) and rubbish top too. Should check out the years, JimmyM on talkbass put a breakdown of the subject in a thread, which I'm not even going to try and search for. Why not stick a silver grillcloth on one of the Aggies?
-
Sounds like you need to sort the cab. Things changing at higher volume is something running out of headroom, and the cure for that is more cabs (that fixes eeither running out of headroom). Depending on when the SC120 was last serviced, getting it serviced may help.

Every time you list an item that isn't a rickenfaker, make sure you put 'not in any way comparable to a rickenbacker' in the text. Will spam up any saved search type stuff they have. Might add it to my generic pasted in bit at the bottom of all my listings. Ask them to describe specifically what specifically is comparable with a rick and your bass.

We must unite to defeat the Rickenwaffen.

Those things Umph has just put up for sale would be most of an awesome dual amp rig. Just need a bottomy cab, and you are good to go.
