Oh I have re-covered the amp too, didn't like the original brown vinle . its red now but the re-cover made little difference to the tone lol. I have also replaced the pre-amp and out-put Tubes with Grove tubes (but who would leave the OEM tubes is any budget amp, and that includes the likes of the tiny terror too) cost wise im still under the price of an Ashdown LB30 or CTM15 . Loud comes from the cab, quieter cab = quieter sound, regardless of watts.

Shouldn't really need modding, if they are close enough to be worth modding. Basically, the output transformer and power supply are the limiting factors and replacing those is going to cost more than an amp.

Maybe its the singer or drummer posting and they don't know that magical property of instruments tuned in 4ths where the same note is repeated in multiple places so it can't be more than 5 frets and 2 strings away.

I have a V-type preamp that is misbehaving. Gonna poke about in it a bit more in a bit.

Are the thing the mic is plugged into and the amp plugged into the same place? Might be feeling the difference in ground between the two points.

[/quote] Really depends on how loud your gigs are. Loudness is determined by cab rather than head, and the always mid scooped eq of the Orange is pretty disadvantageous.

Where are the filter knobs set?

The guts will say if its Matamp, or whoever made amps for Orange later on, or something else entirely.

As of today its officially missing, guy I contract with is taking care of the insurance, it was insured to full value, but I think it will turn up somewhere. PM for a serial if you think you might spot it. Pretty rare pieces. Want to find it because I think the guy who bought it would quite like it.

The passive James stack is flat in the middle, the Fender type one that's on most valve amps is flatish with the mid on full and the bass and treble right down.

The shop was in Sunderland, but they had amps made all over the place, chap got in touch who was making amps for them in Cardiff.

White Tour Range is something I've heard of. I'd suspect from the being packed together that the 6550 are a bodge in, an it should have EL34 or KT77, possibly KT77 and it was burning up EL34 so 6550 were bodged it, which would make it all dirty sounding, and burn up the amp instead of the valves. Inside shots will tell more about who might have made it, White was a music store that outsourced. Exactly the sort of thing I'm after.

The clue there is something wrong is talking about the resistance, when the signal is AC, so its impedance, which brings in all the lovely inductance and capacitance fun variables.

Should really go as soon as starts misbehaving. Using a malfunctioning amp never goes to good places.
