2.
I was just thinking that you might end up having to spend over £100 to fix this amp, so you may end up being £300 into this clone before you know it; in which case you are close to cost of a real Bassman. Either way good luck on your journey, which I reckon is a good one. Bassman heaven is a thing of beauty IMO.
Thing is, it will be fully teched and sorted. Fender QC was dodge from the factory, and a £300 bassman probably won't be tip top.
3. Thread on another forum on the subject For opinions, you are best off making a thread in amps and cabs, or technical issues, because the techies won't be looking here. Edit: Bit of BC discussion here. Edit 2: Quickly ran the drivers through winISD with some guestimates of the GS412 specs: Hmm, not sure if you'll be able to make that out so well.
4.
But mind games apart the higher density of the wood will give better sustain in the same way that a thru neck does vs a bolt on.
Does it and do they?
5. There are quite a few types of ebony with various properties, in addition to stuff that is described as ebony but isn't.
6. I like how the bridge cover is tissue wrapped, but when you unwrap it, it is screwed.
7.
I now have 4 basses with ebony boards so there must be something I like about them.
So why did ya go for maple on the custom?
8.
+1 I remember reading an article from someone in the U2 camp, and they had a chance to play The Edges guitar set-up. He said he took hold of the guitar, hit it, and it went "blurk". At that point, he realised most of the sound comes from The Edge himself.
"blurk""blurk""blurk""blurk""blurk""blurk""blurk""blurk""blurk""blurk" surely
9. Probably the meat of that note is too low for your cabinet/ amp (probably cabinet, usually the limiting factor) to reproduce properly, the wool is the distortion from it trying. Cut some really low lows.
10. Did you ever have a look under the bridge for the well? It does look like it could cover it, that bridge is just so out of place.
11.
The Eminence Delta 12LFA 12" Bass Speaker is recommended for professional audio mid-bass or floor monitor applications in a sealed enclosure. Specially designed with extended Xmax to deliver more bass than standard models. Available in 8 or 16 ohms. 500W power rating. Usable frequency range: 44Hz to 3kHz.Eminence recommends the Delta 12LFA 12" bass speaker as a replacement in the Aguilar GS 112 Accugroove Tri112SL and Behringer Eurolive B212 cabinets and the Ashdown Electric Blue 12 combo amp
12. I stuck a Delta 12 something (red label) in one of those, worked fine, better with the port extended a little. Looks to be Delta 12LFA from googling it. Edit: Also could be the speaker cable touching the back of the cone. You can pull the cable through when it plugs in the back.
13. I read somewhere the one of the Deltalite 12s is a good match to the cab, with less mid scoop, and lighter, if you want to lighten it, should be able to get good price for the Aguilar drivers. I had mine shipped to me for £80. Also, if people are chucking offers, chuck some at me for my one.
14.
This has made me think. I currently use a hybrid Hartke HA5500 (500w) but REALLY want a go at valves. Looked around and now really gassing for a Fender Bassman 135. My only worry is that 135w wont be enough. Sure for a gig i can mic up but at rehearsal im worried that i wont cut through our beast of a drummer and the guitarists marshall slash stack. Do valve watts really sound louder than ss/hybrid?
You get lots of compression which will help perceived volume and headroom, but the main thing is lots of big cabs.
15. 4, 8, 16 ohm selector. Not benched it but it is nominal 120w. 4 EL34 power valves, 2 12AX7 preamp valves, Bandaxall (2 band) eq, so bit more control than the 3 band Fender circuit. First knob is a 6 position switch, FAC, sort of midrange selector, I'm not sure of its actual workings, I'd guess it selects the mid frequency for the tone controls, but it might be some other midrange colour. The other two big knobs are hi frequency drive/presence, and the gain/volume. Background here. I'm in Bristol. the amp is stashed at a practice spaceon King Square near the center, next to Stokes Croft, site of the former House of Bass. Loads of cabs to try it through, but need to square a time with Gim, the owner of the amp, who runs the space. Edit: Whilst fully functional, it could probably do with a new set of valves if you are fussy on such things.
16.
I have a yamaha 4x10 at the moment which is capable of 500 w's. im looking to upgrade the head first of and then get a couple of cabs. probably a 2x10 and a 1x15.
Pic a sound you want and get cabs to suit, rather than a speaker config and rely on hope for the sound
Mr. Foxen's selling an 80's Orange all-valve head here fo £850. Looks in great nick and it'll sound demon! Truckstop
Cheers for the plug, but its 70s.
17. Polyphonic octavers like the POG digitise the signal, basically, you reduce it to 0 or 1, and then measure the gap between 0 and 1 and calculate the frequency from that, and use that to tell a synth what note to make. It is more complicated than that inside, but that is the general principle.
18. What cab do you have? Trace gear comes up pretty cheap second hand. You can get a lot of amp for that budget.
19. Ha, pop up note saying 'My other cab bounced around when it was loud, and this one is lighter, so it will bounce around more'.
20. It works fine as a guitar or bass amp. It pretty much predates there being a difference. If you can come and pick it up, have a go with it, pay cash style, there is probably some room for negotiation.
21. Bump. Some dude had me chasing around sorting a time for him to come try it with his choice of cabs (like specified the speaker loading he wanted to try it through) , and then changed his mind. Grr.
22. I asked aguilar about some stuff previously and there isn't a proper crossover, just the tweeter is high passed, at least in the GS412.
23. "I'm stimulating the market, to increase the value of my own."
24. If it has a clear finish, you can do a fair bit with steaming out the dented part (if you have bare wood, wet tissue/cloth on it and put a soldering iron on briefly, so the steam pops the dented wood fibres out), that also cleans out the grub, then fill the hole with layers of superglue then polish down.
25. Fender are all about claiming things to make production cheaper and easier are 'for the tone'. Probably gonna be cheaper to score a whole basic bridge than just saddles.
