1. Judging a piece of equipment by the brand on it works much better than judging it by a slightly questionable use of specification.
 2. Not sure what this bullet means:
This is the combined result of points 1, 2, 3, and 4!
3.
Then you gotta pick construction. Bolt is brighter, glue-in is similar but not as bright.
Fairly sure bolt on is heavily influenced by the nature of the joint, and thus doesn't have it's own sound. You can have a sloppy wood screwed and cardboard shimmed joint (classic Fender tone), or you could have a tight fitting, ferrules and machine screws joint, both would be 'bolt on'. That is one that I have compared, but taking a bass, and fitting ferrules and machine screwing the neck, which made the sustain properties very different. Approaching construction as an engineer rather than a guitarist eliminates all the 'warmth' and other such unspecific terms, it is much more about weight and density affecting resonant filtering, than types of tree giving mojo, by wood species are what sells guitars.
 4. Any chance of gutshots? Totally can't afford it unless you wanna do some severe trading, but totally curious.
 5.
By the way that neck is for sale £50 delivered, anyone who needs it for a project that would be pukka, comes fitted with the original tuners and evvythang.
What style of neck?
 6.
This one's a much better deal - and no, it ain't the same one! J.
Rest of the bits are up now. Plus a 'Tokai' and a scratchplate with an Ibanez style mudbucker hole in it.
 7.
It's mostly uni stuff at the moment so I could go into a DI there, but other places, I'm not sure yet. I did think about that option though. Can you plug a cab into a DI? EDIT - Chris, I have a folding trolley, one of those Design Go ones. Can hold up to 35kg I think.
Just get a DI pedal/floorbox, most features for least money is the BDI21, but get a Sansamp for about half your budget and you have a lifetime industry standard friend. Some amps have a built in DI, but the lower end ones tend to not be great.
 8. Tough call with that sort of budget. Are you playing in places where you can borrow a cab? Might be best scoring a head with some EQ options and dialing in to whatever is there. Massive cabs and heavy heads are where the bargains are. Behringer BDI21 for sorting the room sound if there is PA and whatver combo you can put right next to your head is the other budget solution. Peavey stuff is all great but falls on the weight thing.
 9. I recall they have tiny frets, but I've always used steels, and the frets on my first bass, the laying around noodling on bass, show hardly any markings, so I don't think 12 months is gonna make much odds, unless they are made very soft, which I doubt.
 10.
When you enter the venue, seek out the engineer, shake his hand and offer to buy him a beer after the gig.
You don't know the engineer can take his beer. The best thing to do though, is hire Joe 'Golden Ears' Garcia to be your sound engineer.
 11. Rather than fleece him and then try and sell it here at a small mark up, thought I might cut out the middle man, even though its myself (could do without more basses right now, impending dissolution of the House of Bass means I need to lighten the load). Anyway, easiest to get in touch with him at the supplied email.
For sale Fender MIM Jazz Bass Sunburst Looking for £220 ovno Based in Bristol and would prefer not to send it so local pickup preferred. Welcome to come and view it / play it. Bought around 2001. Only had light use and most of that was in a home studio creating samples. Still very clean and plays well. A couple of small scratches and scuffs, but looks good. I've got the action set low as I'm a bit of a weakling guitarist really. Could go a bit higher to cure the slight buzz on the G string high up. Pics are at medium sized: large sized: First second Any more info needed then please get in touch. Thanks, Adam adam [at] adamfaraday[dot]com
12. They are a bit of a cram speakers in boxes sort of operation, but they are at least aware of all the speaker design stuff, the price is low as they have a few standard boxes, and mate speakers and porting to them, so 5 of the 6 sides benefit from the economies of scale. Their 15 + 6 + tweeter box is apparently pretty good, but we already have a home grown company covering that (except the direct equivalent is discontinued). Fairly sure you'll find an equivalent over here, Matamp make cabs to order, and have the style.
 13. Your total limit is kind of based from the lowest one, since if the impedances are the same they'll get equal power, but basically no. However, you don't want to be running two different cabs, just get two of the one you like the sound of, mixing two doesn't get you best of both, you get a third, different thing, that if different depending on where you stand.
 14. Any news on this? Was fiddling about with my Burman, and thinking, the option of plugging in before or after a gain stage is kind of cool, as is the three gain knobs, so you can control the gain at various stages of the preamp. Keeps it all valve, but will make the knob twiddlers happy. Probably bit much for bass amp purposes though.

 16.
I like the sound of my two 1x12 cabs. But I've just bought an old Peavey 4 x 10, and it's got more bass. The 12's are neo's in small cabs, and the 10's are in a big heavy box. is it the box that makes the difference ?
Ported or not is probably the main thing to make a difference. Those Peavey's are monsters, big box, bog port, is the thing for low end. Dinky cabs are generally gonna be made for low expectation of, uh, low.
 17. Watts mean nothing useful. You need enough cabs the same do go as loud as you want, and not upset the amp with the wrong impedance (ohms). So probably two cabs the same. Pair of good 2x10 stacks so they are tall is probably enough with 500w, but depends on sorta sound and volume you are after, and your budget.
 18. Songwriting session with a guitarist I lost amd recently refound (hadn't got a drummer when we were jamming, he went missing, I found a drummer in the meantime). He forgot to turn up to yesterdays. Today his idea for compensating for the fact the House of Bass has no doorbell was to ring the neighbour's doorbell instead. Then when that didn't get him in, he had to go home again to call me to let me know he'd be back at a certain time.

 20. Got serial and identifying pics? Edit: or an eye on a new bass?

 22. The Big one seems very present on the site, and I've only just realised it is no longer offered. Like the product range big has a pic and label of big one, but clicking takes you to big twin, maybe add a 'What happened to the big one' link at the top of there? Or put a 'legacy' banner across the pic. Adit, also, gah, I wanted the 8ohm Big One to bridge my kilowatt Matamp into. Was literally thinking that my GS412 would cover most of it.
