I'd also like to know if anyone has reached the SPL limit of the Super Twelve?!!
If they have, all they can hear now is "peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee".

Cheap Zvex Woolly Mammoth Clone
Mr. Foxen replied to dannybuoy's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
i'm confused. did you win this bid too?????
I don't think it is a one-off, but for the purposes of paying ebay fees, it may be. -
Boss LS2 will do it. I used a mini mixer too but the impedance was a bit low.

Actually, a good bet would be to hit up Thornybank for one of his SC120s, will give you the hard parts (chassis, box, trannies, turret boards) and rebuild it. Probably do a whole new preamp because the one in it is noisy (but also cool, a rebuild with modern resistors would probably sort it).
Glue it together to make 18mm ply.
If you bust out the holesaw and go nuts on one piece, will that give you a stiff honecomb effect?

Brace it up real good.

Just Played Through My First Ever All Valve Rig!
Mr. Foxen replied to derrenleepoole's topic in General Discussion
Is it possible to have a tube amp and still be lightweight? Looking at Orange's isobaric 2x10 cabs and a Tiny Terror head, makes me think it is Damn you GAS!
The tiny terror won't do it, because it is a solid state head. Neodymium cabs are happy enough, but most of that mojo is in the valve power stage. You don't need to run 200w if you have efficient cabs (not isobaric, ultimate inefficient), especially if you like drive, a 100w head will do you and they aren't so madly heavy. -
Hi, This is Nic, Proprietor of Voc Rock Guitars. The valve Shown in this Picture was not supplied by us. All our valves are purchased direct from the manufacturer. They are new and tested considerably before leaving our shop, our feedback clearly shows our comittment to Customer service and Item quality. The Mesa Tubes we sell have the Mesa Boogie Logo clearly stamped on the valve. The valve shown in this picture has ENGL marked on it and looks like a second hand used valve from an ENGL amplifier. Here is a link to the Mesa Valves that we sell http://www.voc-rock-guitars.com/Valves-Tub...AX7a-valve.html Hope that clarifies. Kindest Regards, Nic.
I notice you have KT77s, at what plate voltage do you match your valves?

How much electronics have you done before? Might be best starting by making a tube boost or preamp, or just pedals. With preamp level stuff, belts from it will be educational rather than fatal.

I run the silks through a flame to get rid of them because they are a bit pointless, with the meths bathing. Should really separate the fire and meths parts though, it burns clear so no-one will know why you are running round screaming.

I think JoeGarcia had that exact problem with his GS412. Staple and glue should sort it, not tape, cause that gets sucked out the port and makes it worse.
I even went as far as intentionally putting some twists in a string to test this theory.... nothing.
Sure I read on Frets.com about deliberately twisting strings to tighten the windings, did you intentional twist go with or against the winding?
-
If that is your problem, using a high pass filter to cut off those lows will be easier/cheaper than a new cab. The SFX Thumpinator is one way, but borrowing a crossover that goes suitably low (like 30-40hz maybe) would be a good tester.
It would cost them pence to improve the quality of their critical components and they would still have huge economies of scale. 5% on their production costs would probably improve their reliability fourfold and their sales by 50%. If their stuff was 20% more expensive but was reliable and repairable we would all be looking at it seriously, it would still be cheap. I'd love it if there was someone making cheap reliable exotic gear. I can't afford the real thing. Behringer could potentially solve all my problems, but it doesn't.
Isn't that pretty much what they are going for with Bugera?
OK the fog is clearing. Of course it makes sense that there's nothing below the fundamental. It's just so tempting to see "alternating DC" in a square wave. But what about this: "Clipping does not cause square waves" Can't quite get my head around that.
I think that is the lack of vertical bit, like you need two lines to make a right angle, and it ain't a square without one. So it is just a flat topped wave, not a square one like you can do with synths.
Will Warwick not make a custom one if you offer them thousands of pounds? I was sure I read somewhere that they were planning on reintroducing the 'Nobby'.
Seen a spalt on an advert in a magazine.

If you want to replace an 8x10, in the sense of being a bit similar, then transparent isn't what you are after. The 6x10 job that Alex has planned is the 8x10 beater.

I think, since you are asking on a bass player forum, that you should just be looking out for an Exciter in the right price bracket, because it is far more likely the ones hereabouts will be big bottom equipped, and you'll have a better market when you come to sell it. Plus you might dig the Big Bottom.
-
What is 'crest factor'? It is probably maths, that they tried to teach me in school, but did it without context.
It's got to be rackable I'm afraid
Ask them if they'll do rackable. Fairly sure Umph will do you a custom if you ask, but is kind of not going for a commercial thing.
If this is the sound you like then why not go for a couple of lightweight active PA speakers?
PA speakers tend to not go very low, because for PA purposes you have a sub to cover that when it becomes necessary. Plus your vocalist will assume he can use them.
