Had a YBA200, was great, had a dropping out of the bottom of a flightcase on the way gig incident, and it played fine. There was an issue with the mk1 that was fixed, should only be able to get mk2s now. Some valve swapping is often advised, is part of the fun.

Semi parametric midm contour and loads of interesting connectors, so you have a fair few tone options. you can do interesting stuff with the crossover, including sticking a Y cable in and back into the amp, so you get a high/low balance, and also low passing the whole thing for total dub madness.

Post up some youtube clips of sorta thing you are after.

If you get a preamp, might as well get a PA type power amp to go with it, cheaper and more headroom than the Laney. A secondhand Crown, QSC or Peavey power amp and a VT bass will sort you for anything drivey, and the bass buddy and one of those sorts you for flexible clean.

BASSHIVE, social network for bass player (like facebook!)
Mr. Foxen replied to Alberto Rigoni's topic in General Discussion
What we really need is a network for all the musicians other than bass play4er. And also drummers. -
Selling this for a mate, cause I can't afford to buy it myself. An early pics only OR120, the plexi front (painted on the back) indicates it dates from 1972-1974, according to the Orange dating website. This has been a gigging amp, so has been maintained accordingly, some caps have been replaced, although the main caps are still original as they haven't had issues (although should really be replaced due to age). Is loaded with a mix of valves, works fine but probably best getting a new set in and a full service and setup to your liking. After £850 for it. My monitor is dying, so all pics look really dark to me, so I've not edited them because they'd end up washed out. Kickback shape means more cuts and joints, and compromised internal area, so more work, more wood, more cost, for a compromised amp, that is bigger to pack and ship.
Military does not equal musical. By no means. These had a big prob with popping valve taking out transformers... ...and there are NO parts for these... ...but this one is still going, so may be OK.
Military wiring is Hiwatt's favourite boast. Does this use especially Russian components, or is it a Marshall clone, and thus use same specced components? And damn, cheap nasty Marshalls explode and die all the time, due to cheap nastyness. -
Orange Terror "On / Standby" Light quick question

I think faulty bulbs is a theme, just scavenged a pile of bulbs that work from my Dad, which indicates they are car type ones. -

Would you buy a TV built entirely on turret boards though? Things on turrets are a joy to work on, but they are kind of expensive, amps are fairly simple, and a turret-track built very serviceable Matamp will cost you quite a lot more than a very complicated TV. I've spent the last few days tending to a handwired amp, with help from some dudes in the know, they are all pretty close to retirement (except Umph), the skills to be able to just fix stuff is going. Anyway, one of those kids living off mountains of discarded rubbish is me, I collect cable and stuff to sell for scrap, I've just stripped out some washing machines for the wiring for this amp. Actually, now I'm looking about, there is very little I own I haven't been inside fiddling with, this pc is cobbled together from parts, and the fan sheared out and is held in with epoxy putty, those surface mount component boards are near impossible to work on, so fairly happy to go back to where they came from. Also, another tip I picked up, instead of abrasive paper on the back of pots, scrape with a blade, avoids getting grains of abrasive in your pot.
Watch it Dave - I have a vague idea of where London is and will hunt you down, replace your solder with a coat hanger wire and watch you suffer...
Coat hangar wire can make very acceptible welding rods. Also, tin solder is still bad for the enviroment, because it leads to formation of 'whiskers' or 'fingers' over time, which in turn lead to shorts and failure, meaning the whole item gets binned: NASA stuff, Gaurdian article. but hey, you can drink orange juice out of your electrical equipment now.

There is a difference between a crossover and low/high pass filtering. A crossover splits off, a filter only allows whichever to pass, if you want to save your cab some work, you only need a high pass filter (a capacitor at simplest). Using two amps without crossover and same signal (as in not stereo) is dual amping, or at least I've considered that to be correct.
In my experience lead free solder produces a duller solder joint than leaded solder. I hate the stuff myself, as do most high volume electronics manufacturers. Just doesn't do the job as well as the real thing.
I'd guess this is due to the higher melting point, means it cools more quickly in relative terms, so acts more like you've blown on it.
Too big. Get a pair of 2x12 instead.
+not being Ampeg 8x10s.

I use one. 4x12s are associated with guitars. Plus they are kind of stuck between the array of 10s using cheap nasty speakers and the 15s using nicer speakers. A 12 costs about the same as a 15 and moves less air, cheap 12s breaking up gives you guitar sound and volume, rather than the brute force of 8x10s. Most of that stuff isn't really true, but hey, marketing. In practice, not many 12s you can get that don't come in 15, and might as well use 15s once you get big enough for 4 12s.
What about "cellulose"?
natural wood lacquer. Cellulose has an actual specific meaning, I'm picking out the words that are used that don't mean anything, except an association with 'good tone'. Is 'tone' even the right word? Should it be 'timbre'?
