1. I can list on ebay for free if I pick my moments, sure there's a fee if it sells, but if it doesn't, no loss. Anyone is free to post amps for sale on my Facebook page, the return is sharing the page on your wall. Trade is picking up there for other people's stuff.
2. Mixing cabs is a bad plan. The reason it is a bad plan is that the sound of the combination is totally unpredictable, so as soon as you plan on mixing the cab with unspecific different cabs, you can't get any useful suggestions, because nobody can know how they will pair up, the sound isn't a combination of the souds of the two, its another sound again. Do you like the sound of the 10s you have but need louder? Get more the same. If you don't like the sound of them, get rid and get somehting you do like the sound of, then add more the same until loud enough.
3. Cab is passive, if the cab is working right, then it's something else.
4. Dunno about popular on talkbass, might just be in the amp section where he's one of those guys who keeps pulling 'I have played bass for ages so I know' as a counter straight up physics and engineering discussion. Kind of unimpressed with tuning really really low and then not having any low end in the sound.
5. Sounds like gaskets are sticking, some prying should sort it, just have to not bend the speaker frame. The coil is an inductor from the crossover. Generally melt glue is used to stop them vibrating and snapping off.
6. I'd call barefaced. Disconnecting the tweeter can apparently means the crossover shows a dead short at some frequencies. Better disconnect the whole crossover and jsut have direct full range to the cones.
7. Probably won't get same power to an 8 ohm load as a 4 ohm one. But it doesn't matter, so not much point considering it.
8. Guess what gauge the wire in the voice coils of the speakers is.
9.
But £215 is not bad for a decent P/J as long s it plays ok.
Plus the chance of getting your money back via ebay.
10.
I would like that big Marshall tube head with 375 watts .I am almost able to afford the Canadian Traynor 200 with 4 KT 88s. Is this amp worthy? I used to own a Marshall Major. Would the Traynor 200 be a big letdown? Are Traynors almost British? I have a MAG600 and a Marshall MB450H now. Should I go to KT88s (again) ??
Get a 200w Hiwatt clone from Subthumper.
11. Some bands write interviews and articles with themselves on their own webzine/webpage/ and release on their own diy record label and write their own wiki article linkig to them, and also have a PR agent that is themself, and their wiki page manages to stay up, whilst no-one on their actual local scene that they are apparently heard of has ever heard of them (although he once stood in my way when I was trying to get a cauliflower).
12.
Says the man judging a huge swathe of people by their nationality rather than any actual qualities of individuals.
*culture. From dealing with said individuals professionally.
13.
Just been reading a post on Talkbass about the whole issue and a lot of the Yanks are pretty scathing about recent Eden quality. Would be nice if the high-end products were made in the UK for the European market.
Thing is, yanks idea of quality tends to be entirely based on the name badge and the made in band, with total disregard to any actual qualities of the item.
14. Eden is the maker, David is the product line, because they were competing with SWR's Goliath range. So they're Eden David cabs.
15. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=171057450896&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1123 Checked, its UK voltage one, fell foul of EU regs so never properly exported.
16. With 500w and a mid scooped eq is a bit of a different scenario to 160w and a mid scooped eq.
17. Bass is entirely taste call, rig seems fine, so PA would seem appropriate.
18. The 160w head might be more of a limiting factor.
19. With same power, the PS cab is going to be loads quieter, since you are feeding power to two speaker, but only one of them is moving air. Plus its a smaller speaker.
20.
My drummer saw a metal band a couple of weeks ago at a small venue and (apart from the drums obviously) the whole band went direct, no amps and cabs on stage at all. They all had digital modeling floorboards and used monitors for on-stage sound. He said the band sounded fantastic.
Meshuggah? Regard them more as a sound dreadful, but its on purpose.
21. If musicians have a big problem with how the sound engineer works, they are welcome to pay their own one to come to the gig with them. If your band doesn't suck, and you're not a dick, then they might even do it quite cheap.
22. Sounds doable. I've used a peavey power amp to run my bass rig with guitar rig from the other side before. Sansamp VT makes a good pre.
23. Kind of like diamonds, vintage instruments are not rare, but are stockpiled in warehouses by large investors to maintain value. There are plenty of ways to put your money in things totally subject to the whim of large investors.
24.
I managed to break my Matamp 4x10" - bass cab and my 300W tube amp a week ago at gig. I opened the cab today and checked up the elements - one of them was completely dead and did not show any reading when I tested the impedance with a meter. I also noticed that one of the electric wires was also detached from another element (not from the one that I think is broken). I have the Eminence Ferrite Delta 10A (8ohm) elements and there is a marking "Custom manufactured for Matamp audio techology". Any idea that what's the difference between the standard and the custom version of the element - or is there? I cannot even describe the feeling on the stage when I realized that the cab went suddenly completely mute and the tube amp blew all the tubes few seconds later.
Unlikely to be massive difference in the OEM vs retail drivers, might be something though. Sounds like a speaker went because disconnected and the others were pushed hard and tuned wrong because of the new passive radiator they had to deal with, what head was it?
25. The original ones were developed pretty much in parallel, which is why the big one and the 15/6 are very similar. But Barefaced ran with the lightweight construction, whereas Fearful are designed well for DIY, so Barefaced will come out lighter unless you fiddle a bit with the design; thinner wood, prestressing and such.
