I hate to be the miserable bugger but if thats the case you need hearing protection!!
Might be 'needed'.

However much you crank it it won't make sound without a cab. If you have a cab, maybe you need another one. What are you using it with?
True, but who wants to be carrying 6 cabs in and out of the Nag's Head on a Friday night?
Hi.
Isn't it also a strain on the amp to try and drive too many speakers?
No.

Is that Mike from Spaced?
Jedsons weren't all sh!te by a long way. Things like this were definitely entry-level tat but you'll also find some quite sexy early Matsumoku stuff wearing a Jedson badge, such as (guitar content warning) this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Jedson-Les-paul-copy...J-/120596488289 I've seen some nice Mat Jazz copies badged as Jedson too, and their acoustics can fetch some quite startling money. The Jedson brand disappeared in the early 70s after J.E. Dallas & Sons (see what they did there?) merged into Dallas-Arbiter. I think the Arbiter brand broadly has a slightly better reputation too. J.
Kinda scrimping on the neck plate there. -
It's a Yamaha P bass, think with jazzier neck, not much in common with the Sheehan basses. Probably a nice enough instrument, but not anything exciting.

there was a comedy character in a cheap muso magazine called Teddy Tench that was a collection of bad musician cliches, and he played a Jedson, I was interested to fdind what they were and get one just to be a bad cliche (I play pointy BC Richs). When I found out I realised I already had one. -
Get the cast cover from the side of a motorbike engine, that would be cool.
I have thought about this too ,Last year for example shall we say a friend of mine lets call him Derek (Definitley not me and just happens to have all the exact same gear as me!).Well Derek plays in a few bands and probably earnt £1500-2000 with a few freebie charity do etc on top but also in that tax year had to buy a Genz-Benz rig,A pre EB Stingray bass plus stage clothing,Strings,Batteries and Petrol etc etc.So if I (sorry Derek) had declared that year as a loss would that be deductable against his regular job income? Hence making it very worthwhile as long as it never makes a profit, Which in all the years as far as I know Derek never has!
Gear buying is capital, so you can claim for depreciation, not the whole cost, unless you blow it all up within a year.

Theoretically yes. In practice you could break the cab without cranking, if you do it wrong, and ignore the fact the cab is making protest noises.
-
It sounds horrible because of high frequencies. Not sure a pedal distortion is going to cause it much upset, usual rule appllies with sound horrible, turn down. The bit tat kills tweeters is the square wave when you clip a power stage, because suddenly loads of power is shunted to the tweeter as the crossover sees the 'flat' bit as entirely high frequencies, if there is a bulb protecting the tweeter, that is when your cab glows. I'd guess this might happen with a distortion pedal, but probably not nearly to the same extent, and your ears will protest before the tweeter expires. Just unwire the tweeter.
The seller says it hums a bit on b and e strings...? I was under the impression that it contained a high pass filter, so it shouldn't matter which string is struck right?
If it is sat on another cab, maybe is is resonating cause of vibrations form the cab below. Not a hard one to check by shifting it.

I think the Sansamp has a built in speaker sim treble roll off, other DIs might not have which can make some horrible sound from distortion into PA tweeters.

Do valve pre-amps on hybrid amps (eg, Shuttle) blow often/at all?
Mr. Foxen replied to Clarky's topic in Amps and Cabs
In general valve pre-amps go on for years with no trouble. Over the past couple of years I've had several very old all-valve heads pass through my hands with their original pre-amp valves still performing perfectly.
Old valves were made better though. -
Your collection needs more colour. Get this: Neck bucker, and P pickup. Ideal for you.

Can I use a power amp with my little bastard?

I recall AlexClaber mentioning that custom colours were an option for an extra charge, maybe get an orange barefaced. I don't think orange are known for flexibility.
-
Yes, kind of, probably! It'll handle super-detuned tone just fine, just as an 8x10" will, but it won't reproduce the lowest content as accurately as something designed explicitly to go lower. But if you're in a LOUD context and looking to run dirty+clean rigs or similar then a higher sensitivity cab that produces more bass in general at the expense of deep bass extension makes more sense.
I've always found 8x10s to be rubbish, pretty much blame them for the clanky rubbish metal tone that is so prevalent. Comparative lows to Aguilar GS412?
