1. Looks like a Jet King, which is a new issue based on the Ibanez Rhythm maker, so maybe it is one of those. Not finding a pic. Waitin on Bassassin.
2.
Fair dos. I sold my marshall jcm800 last year cos it was a bit too heavy - I replaced it with a an ampeg SVT-IIP preamp and a digital power amp - I've then replaced the digital power amp with a lovely 18kg 1kw solid state power amp. (that 5kg makes all the difference!) I can't say I've missed lugging the Marshall but if somebody else would have carried the b*stard I wouldn't have let it go. That said, I prefer my tone now, it's easier to move, it's louder and quieter. But, there's something about the beautiful simplicity of a good all valve bass amp that I miss.
I reckon my Mesa Strategy 400 is just the ting you need instead of that cold solid state power. Considering selling it.
3. Equally unsubtle.
4.
BTW, what do the sponges in the ports do?
They lower the port tuning to alter the response. Set for a low tuning there, so the lows roll off earlier and smoothly, rather than going even to a certain point then dropping off rapidly. So it sounds like a sealed cab for valve amps.
5.
Anyway I'm leaning toward the Ampeg, as I'm believing that 10s would tend to greater dispersion and clarity. The 'peg will be a degree more portable though, I figure. The Peavey is a pig to move. Ears are open...
Is the 2x15 sealed or ported? The 10s only have better dispersion if they aren't next to each other. With dimensions and porting info on the peavy, tried modelling neo 15s in there? Would sort the portability.
6. Both: Doom What speakers have you got lined up for the peavey? I think you Ampeg will have a far better resale, but it might not agree with valve amps so well if the speakers are 8 ohm each, you end up with a funny total.
7.
Bought one from him and waiting for it to arrive. I thought I'd order the longer one (he does 2 different sizes) I've decided in the end to make the lines invisible and am just working out what to do with top facing lines as the dots on the top will now be out as the show the middle point of 2 frets instead of on the fret which is what I need now.
Put a quarter inch of visible line in the top of the slot so you have a reference.
8. I used rustin's danish oil to finish my Wishbass, and everything else I've needed to finish, lots of sanding and coats looks good:
9.
The Akai Headrush is deinitely worth a look, it's really versatile and within your budget. It can do bright repeats and dark repeats.
+1, it ticks your boxes.
10. Find some pipe to fit in the hole and try a few lengths, or sleeve two bits so they are telescopic and try a few tunings.
11. I borrowed a Hartke 2x15 for a gig, and it was pretty awesome, in the corner of a small venue, did enough volume at low A and sorta lows I like.
12. I have a very similar amp, but it is an instrument one, with normal and bright channels, and seperate eq for each. Sounded great for about 45 seconds before blowing a fuse, apparently needs a new power transformer.
13. Kinda after Finbar's Vintage, might entertain offers to that end. Mixing speaker sizes is Doom, as it will be paired with a GS412.
14.
Can't believe that after I spotted this, he added a £100 BIN - and I missed it! Hope someone here got lucky.
Might have been at request though, someone says I'll give ya £100 for it, and he keeps ebay protection that way.
15.
Okay, slightly different line of questions. What do people use for their lettering if they want it to look professional? I don't really like the look of the shiny bit you get around waterslide transfers, and I only want to put some words onto a finish, not print off a whole top with graphics and everything. Silk screening would be ace, but I think a bit expensive for a one off.
Mask and sandblast it, that would be cool.
16. Quite fancying another cab, so need to make some space. Edited description some too.
17. you sure you'll want another cab. Supposing this is the same as the one I tried, it goes JoeGarcia in the living room loud on its own, with only 100w. This has the interesting effect that my can skate round on my vibrating floor like one of those air hockey tables.
18.
Ah so not such good news then. Bringing another cab is what I want to avoid really, as the Hartke will be the easier (and louder) option then anyway. So with the RMS output almost doubled from going 8ohm to 4ohm, through a speaker that can handle the power, I'd really see no extra (real world) volume?
If you are changing speaker, you could put in one with a higher sensitivity, which would give a few more db, but that would screw the tuning (such as it is) and change the sound. All in all more effort than its worth.
19. I'd love a nice version of the necks I like (form cheapy johnsons) made, with a tele headstock. Would need to get hold of 33" and 35" scale basses though, always thought I'd dig the longer.
20. I have found a good soak of lemon oil over a couple of days swells the fretboard back up and you are good to go. Has been fairly dramatic on an abused guitar.
21. Jazz sold, P still going, lovely flame neck, open to offers.
22. Speakers are better in home systems and such, so people expect more bass now. Also, detuning, needs much more power, and 5 strings etc.
23.
So that post might have been a bit flippant but I always assumed it was true, that is, if you have two boxes with four speakers that have the same build and characteristics (ports, materials) as one box with eight speakers, there will be little difference, is that not the case? Is it the case that 410s tend to be designed/built with different characteristics to 810s? Interesting points about an 810 being easier to move, but that's most certainly not my experience having used a couple. OK, it might be easier if you can slide or roll it, but not if you have to get it around tight corners down the stairs into a basement bar. I'd love to have an 810 by the way
I have an 8x10 going, cheap do to impractical (Doom). Some Ampeg 4x10s are built like half a 8x10, and should be fully equivalent, they are a bit quiet, the 8x10 had that many speakers for a reason.
24. £56. Why was no-one paying attention?
