2. Some douchebag's bid on it, win for seller I guess.
  3.
Presumably if I post here more people will see this thread. With almost 10,000 members on basschat does the winner require a majority?
I don't think it has as much through traffic as the other parts of the site, it is pretty nerdy in this section. Maybe a sticky elsewhere? Also, since a certain someone has lost the lead, and with it my chances of having a go on the cab as compensation for having to see that face most days. From the original competition thread:
Mrs Barefaced has brought up the important point that a true bassface has to be sustained pout/grimace/grin, not merely a passing snapshot a la Heat's 'look how ugly/fat/chavvy celeb x looks today' photos.
So please consider the video posted in the original thread.
  4. The good Oranges were made by Matamp, so entirely appropriate they should work on it. It should be fine to run off the slave out on the Orange. Probably an about right price for a slave since they aren't very popular, but it is fully serviced and from a shop. I totally want it though.
  5. I think the Peaveys were made of imbuya (spelling?), I had a similar in 4 string flavour. Didn't like the neck. I'd avoid chopping up the headstock, it is a fairly structural part. I don't think the tone is gonna change much from the wings being different, the through neck is doing most of the work, unless you drastically change the weight.
  6. Soap and water and a cloth for cleaning the fingerboard. Maybe meths if it has broken though, as that will evapoourate easily and get rid of the finger grease. Why didn't you fill the scratchplate holes before painting?
  7. Put the rack at the bottom, so all the cabs are higher. Cabs or speakers side by side is a no, all Claber's paired speakers are vertical for a reason. Always better go keep it vertical. Might end up with your amps to one side though, there is no need to have it on top.
  8.
...or TWO 8x10's
or 6
  9. Wouldn;t surprise me if it is modded for a standard power supply, since the LED has been done.
  10. Often 8x10s are sealed, and often 4x10s are ported. That makes most difference. Sealed has less lows, and corresponding tighter sound. The have a lot of speakers for efficiency, whereas ported cabs use other tuning trickery to be efficient (or don't). Mad bargains on 8x10s to be had, such as much Ashdown ABM, but the pair of SWR 4x10s are also a mad bargain.
  11. How about some cross promotion: Buy this Mesa 400+, and I will give you a £50 discount on this cab. That way Umph can buy my jazz and I have the budget to buy some of the many nice goodies I'm tempted by in for sale.
  12.
I'd probably be switching between. Thanks
That is more complicated but doable. Foot switching? Gonna be a lot of leads back and forth.
  13.
I've never heard that one before. You shouldn't be playing double stops into an analogue octaver unless you want it to go mental anyway.
From the EBS blurb:
The EBS OctaBass analog octave divider creates a single note one octave below the pitch of the played note, adding a new dimension to your sound.

The pedal also recognizes two or three-note chords and trigger the lowest note. Control the level of the original tone and mix in the octave effect. Choose between High, Mid or Low Range.
Two notes isn't a chord though. Grr. It doe do a pretty good job, not a totally tremelo spazz like an OC2, but obviously copes best with single notes.
  14.
As for traditional "octave dividers" the tech is old, there are no more gains to be made, and so the tracking is basically the same on every model. Someone who's selling a vintage Japanese 'black label' Boss OC-2 will tell you it tracks better than a regular OC-2 to justify the price, similarly someone selling an EBS Octabass will tell you it tracks better than any OC-2. They're all talking bollocks - they all track fairly well and that's the best you'll get.
The octabass is very much less glitchy on diads than the OC2, and glitches in a different way, although how low they track is pretty similar, mostly down to technique and tone. I have A/Bed a fair few octavers at this point. Still hoping to get hold of the pearl octaver.
  15. The House of bass is a small flat occupied by two bassists and a large amount of large bass equipment. Conversation in there will include the words "bass" or "amp" in most sentences. But after next week, I'll probably be having a jobless bit, so if you want any pointers or such I'd be happy to.
  16. Are you planning on switching between the two pres, or just bypassing the ones in the heads? If the latter, just plug the preamp into the fx return and you are good to go.
  17. Reckon you could do it with a Wishbass, plenty of room on the headstock, and a beefy neck with reinforcement option for stability. Plus no pesky frets to show up the intonation going out.
  18. It is a bit dependent on what you are hitting it with, neck bucker with tone right down is tracked a lot better than a trebly bridge pickup, cause the fundamental is that much stronger there. And the digital octavers that track pretty well (POG variants) sound weird and glitchy on low notes as the synth that makes the low octave is bad at really low, so you get a weird effect. Also, no cabs will make the low E octave down.
  19.
Had that in my watch list this morning. It hasn't half jumped in price today .
Still pretty damn cheap right now.
  20.
I completely disagree with your view of pricing. The reason being is that Entwistle was a member of The Who, who were massive in their heydays and known globally. Pastorius while a very good jazz bassist and did a lot for the instrument, is practically unknown outside of specific music circles. Part of the value of Entwistles' was due to his fame and popularity, Jaco simply doesn't have that and won't command the same price imo.
He doesn't have to be popular among lots of people, he has to be popular among some very wealthy people.

    Cab advice

Are they the original drivers? You can experiment with the port tuning a bit but rolling up some stiff card and putting it in the ports to make them telescopic, and lengthen them that way, see if it makes a difference.
  22. By the time you've flipped all those switches and got it in tune properly, might as well switch basses.
