1. Surprise is being expressed that these are still going. In anticipation of further similar inquiries, the Precision weighs 4.15kg
2. Owning this will make me feel slightly more like my dad.
3. I heard Felix Pastorius is a very fine player in his own right. Is this the same bass that was smashed into pieces, repairs with front and back veneers and reviewed by a bunch of greats including Wooten?
4. Reckon you should do something to make very sure which is which.
5. If you are planning on both at once, not sure there is much point. If you like the 4x10 alone, won't get much more volume adding a single 1x12, and if you like the sound of either, both probably won't do the same thing as either.
6.
My mom seems driven on NEW only for the guitar, but wont mind a used Amp. I'm trying to persuade her but she's stickin.
Listening to your mum = not rock and roll. Buying new stuff is worst use of money, especially if there is a chance you'll lose interest, that's a loss right away, whereas a cunning bit of buying will turn into an investment and an important skill if you don't see out the bassist path.
7. Can come sit in the House of Bass for a really cheap rate, and just soak up the atmosphere. And learn why maybe you should take up a small acoustic instrument.
8. A sheet of veneer will do you for fret line filler. You can make your own radius block from a favoured fretless (or your defretted and smoothed board) but putting the sandpaper on the board facing out and using it to shape a piece of fairly soft wood into the matching curve. Easier to get a proper one though.
9. Reckon the fretboard wear won't look so bad when its clean, but you'd need to do something to keep it that way. If the hardware has stuff that won't rub off, try cola, except for the sealed bit of the machine heads, cause they might not like it, take the rest off and do them though.
10. Finally released my Max preamp to Alien who has been on the cusp of owning it for so long. All seemed to work fine.
11. Is it lots of amps? Please tell me it's lots of amps.
12.
Solid state amps i.e. amps with a solid state power amp and or a solid state / valve preamp will be fine. Only amps that have a valve power amp i.e. Trace Elliot V8, Ashdown 427 big block, need a speaker load when they are on. So you will be ok D
Generally true, but more true to say amplifiers with an output transformer need to have a load on them, as some solid state amps do have an output transformer (weird ones generally). Also, there are some output transformerless valve amps, which might not need a load, but I am not sure.
13. WD40 isn't ideal, you may find it will get very much worse shortly after making it better. Servisol is a solvent, WD40 is a solvent and an oil, which will do similar in the short term, but it is odd stuff.
14.
If your cabs are Ashdown ABM's, your best choice by miles is to replace the drivers with modern neos. That way, you'll cut the weight and boost the potential output for a fraction of the cost of buying something else.
Then you open the whole speaker replacement and cab tuning thing again.
15. Why dont ported? I means you cut out my lovely rear ported lightweight neo 6x12?
16. Mmm, Jaco-y
17. [sneaks off to adjust prices on his Badassed basses for sale]
18. As if people played notes above the 7th fret in the 50s.
19.
I've had bass's and women my wife didn't know about lol
Dude! Public forum.
20. Unsurprisingly, Glen Danzig likes his groupies to dress as himself.
21.
Thinking about what you are trying to achieve though it would be quite interesting to use just one of the Celestions with a partition inside the cab and then another 15 with a better midrange/top end in the larger top half of the cab.
If that sorta mod is the plan, probably best to use a proper sub driver, a crossover and stick a smaller mid driver on a board sealing the top hole.
22. The by all accounts very good Eminence Kappalite 3015 looks to be ok in this box, not gonna go really low, but it is the first thing I modeled, and it looks happy, I am supposing the port is a round one? If you can get another driver much cheaper, might be better with one of those, you'd be wasting a bunch of the potential of the kappalite.
23.
We all have lines over which we would rather people didn't cross (as seen on the Ginger thread). When I discovered the origin of the phrase I personally felt it was an insult so chose not to use it. As for my history - which bit?
Crusaders. No-one should be made to feel ashamed of the history that forged their culture.
24.
Probably from the Crusaders then (no, not those cool jazz funk dudes) so all the more reason not to use it!
I'm all for freedom of speech me. I'm not ashamed of your history.
25.
Apparently (at least from the Turkish kids I went to school with 30 years ago) Cack means sh1t. In Middle eastern cultures, the left hand was reserved for wiping one's ar$e, and to offer the left hand to shake hands was a huge insult. Therefore, to call a left hander cack handed I would have thought fairly insulting. Sorry to seem pious, but when you have heard of the predjudice that left handers have faced - my mum (back in the 30's) was regularly beaten at school to get her to use her right hand then all of a sudden calling it sh1t handed doesn't seem so mild and meaningless after all.
If you aren't brown or homosexual, no-one has any sympathy. There isn't a link between the beating and the sh1t hand thing. Conformism makes life easier for the majority. The dirty left hand is middle eastern culture with a fairly sensible reasoning behind it, the beating in schools is a Christian thing, being a mark of the devil, as I was hinting at.
