1. They ahve bass settings too though, not just for guitar. Intended for use with other instruments also.
2. Bargain. The respond really well to a valve swap
3.
That Mockingbird is a thing of beauty, Geezer Butler is using an identical model on the inside sleeve of Live Evil. I would happily sell everything I own for one and am proper jealous.
Pretty sure its an Eagle he is rocking in the pics I've seen. Anyway, that's not the point. Buy my rig.
4. Picked up the V-type pre I've been after finally today, and my 1000w Matamp Quasar finally got delivered, so this monster rig is now spare. It is a Peavey Max valve preamp, upgraded with a Harma valve. Fully working, but used, one knob has been replaced by another Peavey one from a T-Max head. Great reviews for these preamps. Manual here Reviews This goes into a Peavey 8.5C power amp, bridged this pushes 1100w at 4ohm, 550w a side at 2 ohm. It has the clipping protection that peavey like. Has some fan noise, but nothing that matters if you are using 1100w. I had this overheat and cut out once, Peavey gear seems pretty well protected, but I opened it up and it appear to have sucked one of those shaggy grey cats into it at some point, cleaned all that out, and gave it some harsh doom drone testing, and its been fine since. Manual Both of these are in a rack case, if bought all together, I will include a high quality patch lead that connects them and the speakon cable that is connected to the terminals to run it bridged. Here it is in practice, the 6x12 is also going for £600, that's a pretty devastating rig for less than a grand.
5.
Thanks for the responses guys, the signal was distorting long before the speakers blew but I assumed that with the head being underpowered it would be ok. You're right about me standing in front of the rig too, it did seem louder further back! The cab was 2nd hand too so that could well be the reason, playing wise I've only been using the bridge pick-up with the tone up full to get that high treble sound but new strings is definitely an option. I like the idea of a second 4x10, it's clear that I've only been getting half the potential of the amp up to now but as you know travel is more difficult with two as well as financial reasons. Assuming I can get the Ashdown cab fixed what do people think about the addition of a 15" cab? I have the old Carlsbro combo (about 2 third's the size of the Ashdown) that I could drop a new Celestion TRUVOX 1530 (15") bass speaker into for about £80.00 to make a second cab but would it be worth it? Also, not to sound stupid but what's the benefit of using a compressor? Cheers again, Jak
Not worth bodging another cab and speaker, probably want to stop thinking about 'watts' altogether, the are pretty much only for bottom end and breaking things. Maybe put your 4x10 on top of the combo so it is higher will help the sound. Using another, different, speaker will just mean its harder to hear the distortion warning you that it is going to break. As soon as one speaker goes, the rest are going to get trouble as the cab tuning goes, so they are free to move further with less power (and produce less sound), as the dead speaker becomes a passive radiator and counters the cushioning effect of the air in the cab.
6. You've discovered how meaningless speaker watt ratings are. If you are turning up to full volume on a 500w head, you haven't got enough cabs. Cabs determine your volume. If you want lots of mids, you probably want to stand further from your cab. Would guess you have a 4x10 on the floor and are stood right next to it. Highs and mids are quite directional, so mostly probably shooting past your legs if you don't have the speakers facing you. If you have actually broken cabs by turning up, you probably should reassess what you are doing. There should be plenty of bad sound type warning before actual breakage. A pair of 4x10s so one is higher toward your ears is probably better for you (some will say pair of 2x10s on sides, but that isn't going to suit your style methinks). Then cut bass, that's the bit that breaks speakers, eq down the bass first, then crank you mids and highs, then fiddle with your volume, probably use bridge pickup also. Also, pick close to the bridge, have a suspicion you are wanging the strings very hard over the mid pickup sort of area so the strings move loads, and the speaker does likewise. Heavy strings, pick close to the bridge, cut bass. The head is likely totally fine. Edit: New strings. Bet that is your trouble with treble.
7. [s]Have the original pickup for this, will knock £25 off if you want it with that instead of the Will Power.[/s] To avoid confusion, the Will power is out, original replaced and as is, is now priced at £150.
8. Pretty straight up 2x12 with tweeter, barefaced style.
9.
They're not Delta 12s in the GS series.

Eminence recommends the Delta 12LFA 12" bass speaker as a replacement in the Aguilar GS 112
Dunno what difference the cast frame makes, probably weight, and maybe smoother mid from less reflections from the frame (that might be marketing balls on some other speaker though).
10.
Yeah, didn't mention I'm not looking for trades by the way, thanks for reminding me Unless you happen to have a Schroeder 4x12 lying around? I'd be all over that.
Tecamp 6x12?
11. Wanna trade for a pair of mexi Fenders, and, uh, a pedal?

Bass Fuzz

Bass big muff.
13. Totally missed that reply. Depends on the trades really. I will post these, ideally with the necks off.
14. Just scored a Holy Grail so this is spare. This is the one. £35 posted. Here's stuff from other threads to save some bumping: MXR microflange As much as I love playing Stormtroopin by Nugent with it, thats basically all I do whenever I switch it on. It is the early one, not the reissue, so has the mini jack power socket. £65 posted, not sure it isn't collectible cause its old, but that's about what it owes me. Line 6 Uber Metal pedal, ridiculous metal sounds, loads of knobs, £32 EBS Octabass. Bit used, works fine. Not sure what the switch does because I've never had one. This is dead simple two knob octave pedal, tacks happily down to B, then gets shaky but still makes bottomy sounds, bit better if you roll off the treble. £70 posted.
15. Have those bridge saddles been filed flat to get them low enough? Looks like a lot of the screw poking out the top.
16. Recommended this to a mate, he just brought it round for a going over. Doesn't really need one, looks barely played, except the owner was right handed and had apparently fitted a tug bar. Ancient strings on it, will see how it sounds when I've cleaned and oiled the board, the frets are hardly worn.
17. Anything with 3/6 speakers ends up with a pain in the nuts impedance. It will upset valve amp owners, people who want 'the most watts' from their SS amps and people who want to use multiple cabs. Not good for marketing.
18.
+1 on the Jackhammer. Click on my myspace link below and listen to 'My Ship Is Ship Shaped' @ 2:34 I stomp on the Jackhammer. Sounds like Thor gargling hammers. What's the deal with mixing drive pedals in the LS-2 loops? I've tried it with mine and in the A+B mix mode the levels are all over the place. Mega loud with the drive on and dead quiet with it off.
Means you have a clean signal to carry your low end mixed in. You just have to balance the 3 volume controls.
19. I use a lot of distortion, from this pickup especially. Considering modifying it to have a bar pole guitar pickup in there. Wiring in parallel certainly helped, but my other tweaks are still in progress, a low cut tone pot on the bridge. Plus the wiring is now a horrible mess so I'm starting again.
20. What does the active do? Is it one know sweepable boost like a Thunder 1A? Also, classic new battery, might be a short draining it real fast.
21. I had one very much like that, was fine, neck far too skinny for me. Didn't find much to complain about.
22. Ha, I shot that guy a message asking him to put a headstock shot up, did it cheerfully, so would seem fairly innocent.
