The wattage rating of the amp isn't really useful as a limiter to keep your cab safe, cabs can break with much less, listening and turning down is the only thing that keeps cab safe. More speakers will generally help being louder, but mixing cabs can give tone fun.

Ignore knobs position as percentage volume, farting tells you you've exceeded its max. Back off one pickup on your J, both on full scoop the mids, and mids is where dinky combos work. There is probably a bass knob on the amp, turn it down.

If the guy can drop it in Bristol, I can sort shipping easy enough. I've asked my mate in Weston, but he doesn't drive either, so kind of not hopeful scenario.

Couple of teflon discs either end of the spring loses some of the squeak.

I did a guitar rebuild for a guy like that. Lefty guitars mess with my head enough, that was worse, ended up with more winds on the tuners than I usually do so I had a second chance if it went wrong.

The no ventilation does that, need to run dehumidifier in downtime.

Massively depends on your requirements for sound and volume. I had the combo briefly, pretty much regarded it as for guitar.

Soundproofing rockwool is a bunch denser than general insulation stuff, its basically blocks. http://www.rockwool.co.uk/why+rockwool-c7-/sound+proofing

Rockwool works as sound insulation by converting the sound energy to heat through friction as the fibers rub together, its a good balance of practical and functional, because two walls with loose sand between is difficult. Other consideration is ventilation, got to keep sound in, but avoid the rooms that stink like a bunch of sweaty blokes are in them often.

Impedance a pickup is connected to makes a surprising amount of difference.

A fake pickup will have no output. If it has output, then its real. I've had one bass that had pickups drawn on with pen, that was fake. One technical factor that has no effect on a pickups sound or properties is the brand name associated with it.

There has been some fuss recently about legislation to make it actually legal to use images that are floating around the web where the creator doesn't care about them being used. I've bought an amp on ebay that was using a picture of one of my amps, surprisingly, when the amp arrived, it was not as pictured (since the pictured one was sat in my living room the whole time) so I tapped up the scrote for £50 back for using my image/item not being as per image.

Sometimes, you need grubby bits to replace bust ones on your grubby instrument, there are threads on how to age hardware. Its a niche. I just got £5 for a battered Sound City amp knob. Spare because I tend to put shiny new ones on restored amps.

Looks like I have two CMIs I don't need, a blue one and a natural finish one.

Dunno about impedance, but the bigger the cab, the less amp power you can get away with, I'd say a massive cab is pretty much going to be required with only 50w. Amp is old enough to require a recap if its not already done.
