2. Or if you wanna do the whole 2x12 build, there's a good plan here: Fearful
3. Don't think going 4 ohm would make enough difference to be worth the change. The Sica drivers are kind of lame though, so upgrading for moe power handling and sensitivity is more viable. Is it a sealed or ported cab? Makes a fairly huge difference in driver choice. I just stuck a spare Delta 12 in my EB combo and it is a definite improvement. Also, check the Barefaced forum section, lots of info relevant there.
4. I've got a warlock body that needs doing, was gonna brave the boy racers at the respray place.
5. 'Master' probably just controls what is coming out of the preamp. some work like that, some don't, the master on my Ashdown EB150 still controls volume if I go FX in.

7.
Only in the fantasy world of marketing department schlockmeisters. In the real world the physics of how loudspeakers work render the claims of Frequency Response: 20 Hz to 17 kHz Sensitivity: 98 dB @ 1 W/1 m totally beyond the realm of possibility. If you could package up all of the bullcrap contained in the Hartke webpage description of the HX 115 you could fertilize a goodly sized farm with it.
You could cheerfully play a low F# into it though, probably not set with any bass boost, and it won't go super loud, but you'll probably be able to hear its a low F#.
8. Mostly its the preamp voicing that's different, guitar amps tend to have less head room also. You could fiddle with the preamp to make it bass. You also need to run bass speakers if you want any bottom, if not, don'[t fiddle with the preamp either. Wouldn't bother with a combo, score an old head and get it fixed up. I'd guess a peavey windsor with some fiddling would do ya, kinda Peavey budget take on an old single channel head. Probably best is score an old no-name valve amp and use that, a PA one would be cheap.
9. Sansamp BDDI and an active monitor wedge.
10.
Sounds like it might be out of phase. G.
Yep, you can switch phase but it just cancels somewhere else, think its like that with any widely spaced pickups.
11. It is to match it up with the output rating of whatever you are feeding it. Should have a rated output on whatever is going in, I noticed bass preamps are about 1 volt. More and you could clip more easily, less and you might not be getting full potential.
12.
Sounds logical! Thing is, I won't know what other cabs sound like until I try them all.... which is why I was kind of hoping for some advice about which ones are "best" - but it seems that there are far to many variables and personal preferences involved for there to be a simple "best" option! Which is kind of what I feared in the first place! Out of interest, what do you mean by "might not agree sound-wise"? I understand that cabs made by different manufacturers may sound rather different, but can they be so incompatible?
By not ageeing sound wise, I mean they'll be handling the power put in to them differently. If they are both the same impedance, they'll get the same power from the amp, but one might be a whole lot louder, whilst the other one might be struggling with the power, and you won't hear it being upset over the greater volume of the louder cab, so you break one (done with with the classic 1x15 and 4x10 + lots of distortion). Also, at certain frequencies, they might end up canceling each other instead of reinforcing, so make a hole in that frequency, ending up with a totally different sound to either cab, although you'll still be louder overall. Edit: Also, I think the Big one is more for high powered SS amps than valve ones, the Vintage is for valves, takes less power to get loud, Big one is for epic bottom with lots of power.
13. A mini mixer will put the signal back together. I have one that is large pedal sized made by Monacor.
14. I put a jazz put against the neck on a p bass, is bottomy and thumpy, but combined with the P it cancels out some low mids. I like on its own.
15. Crossover and mixer will do it. Probably a simpler way though. Got a Lomenzo hyperdrive and figure how it does it.
16. Pretty much everything someone says 'check this great bass playing/sound' I go 'yeah, that sounds cool'. Then I go and put some music on to listen to and you can heardly hear the bass unless you really listen for it, which I don't, cause I'm listening to the music.
17. I think the Sonic Maximiser only affects highs. The Aphex Xciter with Big Bottom might be better for bass.
18. I like the Cubes as practice amps. Ain't tried the Micro though.
19.
Feel as though I'm talking to myself here, but whatever!! Been looking at a Warwick WCA211 2x10 8 ohm cab to sit on top of the Ampeg 1x15. Any thoughts? Anyone got one of these? Great name, but what's the sound like?
They might not agree with eachother sound wise. If you don't like the sound of the cab you have, get a different cab instead. If you do like the sound of it, get another the same.
20. Pretty Doom. Chambered body, pioneering. Possibly it was routed by smearing termite bait on the appropriate parts, organic styley.
21. Trace V type preamp is probably most obvious solution. Very good in general. Might be able to extract the preamp from the combo if you get techy.
22.
They do, don't they? here's the link: http://www.jsdguitarshack.com/dillion_guit...etter_bass.html
Are Ricks for 'thump'? Can't sound much like the Rick's I've heard.
23. If the Big One is in your budget, get yourself signed up to the taster tour here to see if its your thing, I think it is designed for dealing with high power amps, but also to provide very good coverage, so your position relative to it doesn't matter much. My current reccomendation is a preamp you like and a suitable power amp, since they seem to be very cheap for a lot of power. Doesn't look as cool as an Ampeg stack though. You get a lot of modular tweakability though.
24.
Interesting one that QSC - do they have a good rep?
Think AlexClaber uses one, think it is safe to describe him as fairly fussy on his gear. Might be a different type to that one though. Recall it looking similar. Edit: Plus sound engineer mate says they are good (hence it being on my watch list).
