If you fed full range signal into a Big Sub, how high would it go? Are we talking totally unuseable without a crossover, or fine for dub sounds with no pick and fret noise?
Pictures!! EDIT: Where does everyone seem to be getting the Matamp stuff from? I may just be very stupid but I can seem to find any relevant bass equipment on the website. Am I just being rubbish?
You have to phone them up and ask for it. They know guitarists need to be told what they want.

Might have phasing issues cancelling bits of your sound going on too. What cabs are you using?
Yeah...the Behringer limiter does seem a bit delicate, not bad sounding though IMHO. Not tried them myself, but I've heard reports that GLX pedals are also Boss knock-offs. Could be worth a try(?) GLX Bass Limiter
I have a GLX EQ, very solid. Actually seemed a little more than the boss, as the round edges mean less susceptible to knocks chipping it.

Daddarrios are colour coded ball ends, and common. Probably them.
-
Would guess a dud speaker. See if there is a way to run a seperate cab from it. Figure if the issue is amp or speaker.
-
Check out Bill Steer's Firebird, not much except crappy live footage on youtube, but that style of beefy bass.
-
I've got one with the trounded end and captan type thing, but its the Fender deluxe type, wwith the F stamp on the back. Its chrome, on a bass where the rest are straight. If yours were chrome, I'd swap for postage, but I don't really care as nothing else on my bass matches anyway.
You're welcome to try but you won't succeed. So you'll just have to believe what has already been written on the subject of cabs for bass.
Did I show you the gutshot of my latest doom rig? There is a certain point where you don't need to move your rig any more. You just turn it up some more. Another tip is not to break the laws of physic, just use different ones. Why limit yourself to pistonic speakers. Quoted from here.
Obtain a large supply of propane gas arrange a sodium wick and suitable jet and regulator so that the column of flame reaches a hight of not less than 43 feet and burns a bright yellow color. Insert an electrode in the bottom of the flame and another at the top connect a well smoothed 500V DC supply in circuit with the 16 ohm output transformer secondary of a tube amp of about 50 watts rms you wont need much power as you are going to be using the entire planet as a magnet. remember that you should allow a fair bit of room because as you apply the polorizing superimposed dc to the electrodes the flame will bow into a parabola with the deflection toward the closest line of the earths magnetic flux. You have now built a planet assisted sodium ion drive loudspeaker. It will be quite capable of X max measured in meters and will be the loudest thing on the planet short of an extreme earthquake at 20 hz.
Might wanna rig a little 1x12 for highs.

The Orange Isobarics don't really take advantage of some of the new feautures they could use I reckon. They are super heavy, having loads of speakers in a small box. MAke your own isobaric with neo speakers. The smaller magnet will also help keep size down when you are packing them together. Bike trailer and a lightweight is probably better though.

I think I spotted on the BFM forum about putting clingfilm oer the finish to give a leather type finish (guess like the Ashdown ABM ones). Could that be a possibility?
-
yeah my old ashdown EB180 head blew up, wasn't very dramatic, one day it worked, the next it didn't. Was the power section (familiar story).
My 180 and my older 150 both had fuses on the power section, managed to blow them both trying a duff speaker, but easy enough to fix.
-
If that's anything like the Marshall 4x12s I've tried, 150 watts into each side is about as much as it can take before making rubbish noises.
-
I think the midgets are more midrangy, though I haven't tried one. I think the compact will have plenty of bottom with 300w. More than my H&K 4x10 with 100w, and wasn't farting yet.

What's wrong with the sound. What sound do you want? Otherwise, there is no answer. Those two manufacturers both cover a lot of ground with their ranges.

Good source for a string-through base Bass Bridge?

If its the bent tin Fender type job, could just drill holes right through. There are a fair few ebay cheapies that seem solid enough that do through stringing. -
Or you oculd get a cab that is not very sensitive, so you can crank it more without being very loud. Those orange isobaric jobs will probably tick that box. Spensive though
yes..defo not d'addarrio...and as i suspected...not worth the time many thanks Mr Foxen....need to get some others instead
Adagios might be fine, Alice are a different brand that suck.
-
Nah, they are spammed all over ebay for £4. I'd love them to be good. I tried some Alice ones once. All had dead G strings.
Stick the 610 on the 210, just don't plug it in. :B
Put the 2x10 on the 6x10, just run the 2x10 mic it and use the PA. Not Doom.
-
A sansamp and a cheap PA amp, then dump the rest into a cab might make you and awesome rig at a crazy cheap price. Sansamp will do a generic 'good tone', PA to bring it up to level, and the cab is generally gonna be the weakest link, so is the best thing to invest in. Having put together a totally aweosome 1100w valve preamped beast in a rack for under £250, I think this is a very good way to go. Thinking about it, the 8x10 I could run it into cost me £200, so for under £500 (about that exactly including cables) I have a totally awesomely loud rig there. Overkill for almost anyone. Edit, added a 1000w to power of amp.
Well, I'm a realist I've only got 300 watts to play with, so I dont think the compact will cut it. I'm looking forward to hearing Shockwave's vintage soon, mind (too big for me, though!)
You totally missed the Compact hitting the House of Bass. It does a surprising amount, Joe was bouncing my floor about with a 100w valve amp. Was running it really dirty though. Easily outdid the Marshall 2x15 by a very large margin.
