1. I think driving your power valves is going to upset things more that not, whether you are using an attenuator, or just being very loud.
 2. Blanks seem easy enough to get. On the internet of in the music shops box of nuts, there are usually loads of blanks cause they are unpopular. I've sawn up a large bone for the butcher and filed a nut before, had a lot of time on my hands due to unemployment.
 3. P bass, 1/4lbers and Ampeg, great tone, guessing dead strings and hard picking also:

 5. Do they mean the end pin? Guess they are kind of telescopic.
 6.
You want to buy a £50 bass then spend £100 on parts? In the end it'll still be a £50 bass!
With £100 worth of parts that actually make the noise.
 7.
Thanks for all the replies!
Can't say that without telling us what you went for.

 9.
I'd get a Hartke LH500 and Barefaced Compact, I power to weight to value is what you want LH500 - cheap and really really loud Compact - seriously light and great sound
Little over budget there.

 11.
True, there is just something gorgeous about an ampeg rig...
Add some Sunn and it might sound good too.
 12. I'd be after the neck, thats about it though.
 13.
And sorry for being slow, but what do you mean by the play gigs PA systems comment?
Being a user of a/multiple 'Doom rig(s)' I keep getting that 'why bother, just go through the PA' statement. I've played 2 gigs ever where the PA was sufficient to put bass through, such is the way of Doom.
 14.
They're not even plugged in, possibly a statement about bands who have massive doom rigs that are just for show or something.
Bands that can play gigs PA systems are sell outs. Guessing cause its a festival, thats baackline for everyone there, and maybe they don't want to be onstage with a bunch of labels, except for that nice brown Aguilar there.
 15. Vibrations go from the strings to the wood, bounce about a bit and then come back to the strings, the body moves as well as the string. Some stuff like 'tone' can be modifed by pickups and electrickery. Stuff like sustain, not so much.

 17. I have a 4 button latching footswitch with two stereo jack outs on it, post it ya for £15.
 18.
i cant stand taperwound B strings!!! They just suck!!! the "advantages" to Taperwound strings and stringing a bass through the body are two things i will never understand!!!
Whats the problem with them? ONce they are on, I notice very little difference.
 19. How've you establish that it isn't speaker breakup? Guessing you are down to A, so your amp might be pushing stuff into your cab that its just not happy with. Even though its a beasty cab, there is stuff there below its port tuning which can upset it.
 20. I mailed them asking about this:
Dear incarante, Hi Oli I have posted the correct pic Please see attached pic Adam
With the same MM pic, although the listing has now changed.
 21. Ha, only shot of my guitar I can find is one amongst my ex-guitarist's stuff: Fairly appropriate since I never play it, and its been constantly in use. Edit: Its the SG with EMGs
 22. The Larryginal G can do alright with just bass and drums. I would also apprecitate tips on getting that sound:
