1. I got this very cheaply on here, with mouldy speakers, I had a go at fixing the speakers, but they were a bit beyond me, bit more inclined to crumble into dust when touched than I could be delaing with. Got in touch with Wembley speakers wjo gave me an estimate to recone them all, but then I got a job, and a nice deal on an 8x10, so this has sat around with no use and no working speakers. Time for it to move on, anyone that wants it enough to collect it can have it. Pic is an old one, since then I've pried off some of the grills, thinking they were sprung, but were actually epoxied to the cones.
  2.
New gold lions? Tell me more! I have JJ Tesla KT77s in my Burmans and they seem to be reasonable quality and work very well. Do JJ make a KT88?
The old Lions have been reissued, but fairly recent so not so sure if they compare to the originals. Don't seem much more expensive than JJs but google has given me some critisism, but often by NOS purist sorts, also some reports of unreliablility, supported by JoeGarcias Gold Lion KT77 dying, but I'm not sure if thats the fault of the valve, or the amp, since same one seems to have died in it after they were replaced.
  3. Pretty much established my Matamp is not as loud as it should be so its gonna go off to a tech. Might need new valves, so what is the current ones to have? Can't be dealing with this NOS thing, so modern ones, but happy to spend some on nice ones, anyone tried the new Gold Lions?
  4.
Mr Foxen, I use a QSC PLX 3102, 3100 watts into 4 ohms bridged, running into my 2100 watt 6 ohm Tech 6x10", with an Ampeg SVT IIP at the front end, doom enough, if I so desire. Or 900 watts into the Tech and the Glock in stereo. Weighs 21lbs.
Weight in 2 digits of lb = not Doom. Hoping thats not including the cab, although I know the Tecs are floaty light. Plan is this is to pair up with my Tec 6x12, so QSC are on the list, look to be some bargains to be had on ebay there. Basically, I'm going to be looking for a pre _ power combo that cab beat the LH1000 for £330. Not that I have that in my budget, but I like serious shopping around time.
  5. Since we has a thread discussing the power amp/preamp to sonic bliss, what power amps are good to look out for. Bear in mind I gather information, then sit for ages until I spot a mad bargain, so I want an encycopeadic knowledge of what to look for in a power amp, and especially what brands to avoid in spite of their apparently awesome specs. What's the difference between Mosfet and the other transistors. I don't much care about lightness (due to cabs) but are heavy amps going to shortly become worthless due to these (in which case I'll wait on that and buy a beast, obselete is Doom).
  6. Measure up the cab and WIN ISD it. Does it have a port (hole) in it? Is it shaped in such a way you can adjust its length (like a tube you can extend, or a slot you can partially block.
  7.
Nice description. Did you see Red Sparowes at The Croft last time they played?
I was there, was good.

    Peavey gear

Gigged a Firebass, it was fine through reasonable cabs, but the cabs I had let it down (then blew up). So I sold it when I was skint and bought different stuff later, kind of miss it. Seemed to manage brute force simplicity with the eq section and interesting options with the crossover.

    bazz fuzz
Fuzz circuits have been round for ages - its all in the public domain, one transistor driving another into clipping. Add some correct value resistors to balance the type of transistor used, add some caps to get the right filtering, add some pots to control volume, tone, effect, etc. You can't copyright stuff in the public domain, otherwise going back to the bear-face cab example, anyone else making a same dimensions wooden ply box using same method of jointing would also be accused of ripping off the barefaced cab.
Not sure anyone is going to accuse Fearful of ripping off Barefaced, and I think it is pretty much the same, you can get a diagram online, and make something very similar in function yourself, its public domain, and you have flex in the design.

    bazz fuzz
I would have to say yeah....sorry. You've already bought one. You could easily, without requiring particularly advanced skills, make another one for a fraction of the price of a Barefaced cab. Your mate's not got a lot of money, & not in the forseeable future ever going to be able to afford an original anyway, whilst also helping him improve on his rubbish rig. You could call it what you like really, it doesn't matter - it's only between you & your friend.
Plus the cabs are glued together, serious effort to get apart, when you could just use Greenboy's designs to get fairly close, because, with all due respect to Claber, his cabs are mostly just good implementation of known ideas, you can design a cab around the known excellent Kappalite drivers with the free WinISD and get much the same sound, the lightness it down to cunning engineering, granted, but that is like your Zvex clone being in a bigger box.

  13.
Well this one was Steves at electric ladyland. It looks really really nice in the flesh, HOWEVER, there is a kink in the neck that just cannot be fixed, Steve pratted around with the truss rod a hell of alot and still didnt really play very nicely. The pickups seemed a little unbalanced and the action was pretty high at the dusty end. I would AVOID.
Thought I recognised it. So +1 on dubious dealer then. Seems to have pulled this too. P+J is pretty much always gonna be unbalanced.
  14.
Oh yea, remember seeing that listing for the GS412 and AG500 and thinking, 'do I need a third GS412'. :-)
Fairly sure you though 'I totally need a third GS412, totally, but someone will punch me in the face.'.
  15.
There is something exciting about going to a gig and seeing big stacks and hearing huge sounds coming from the stage. I saw Loop once and that was a blast to another dimension, lots of speakerage and lots of wholesome volume. Mr Foxen are you playing anywhere near me in the future? (Liverpool) Enormous volume and power cleanses the soul of dirt.
Joe needs to get all his amps fixed, and there are some difficulties with that, then we need to actually write a proper set instead of posing in front of cabs. Liverpool is a bit ambitious at the moment.
  16.
Makes no sense at all frankly.
Makes exactly as much sense as a 15 with a 4x10 on top, but twice. In this case the 2x15 is sealed, but large, so might not have much bottom, but plan is it has more bottom than the 8x10 on top.
  17. Cuh, that guy again, he pulls listings if they don't make the bid he's after. And scores everything that comes up in Crack converters etc.
  18.
yeah, i was planning on bidding on that cab too.match it up with my 8x10.
Well, I was aiming to get it at opening bid or let it go. Would be nice to keep it on BC so I'll have a shot in the future.
  19.
what about a 2x15 and an 8x10 side by side. or lying on their sides.2x15 on the bottom.
Doom, and kinda what I was planning, but they'll all be upright, like Stonehenge. Was. 'Cause right after I bought that 6x12, the cab I was after came up. Plan was to put 3015LFs in and port it appropriately, maths says that goes plenty low enough. Might just get it as well. Doom
  20.
More speakers generally equals more sound. But it's an umbrella term for stacking cabs willy-nilly. It's traditional designs where seemingly little or no consideration has been given to off-axis performance but I'd suggest throwing a Midget! Alex
Doom

  22. Very much interested if it will happily drive my Matamp slave, can I get it in green and white?
  23.
There is no proof, one of my mates uncle is paul dean (xray spex bassest) so i cant prove anything but, i would take my work for it if i were you, thanks alot bassredfish
Sounds oddly threatening, especially when I said I was asking for friends (you guys) and didn't want a fretless.
