2.
They are very good from what I've played. They only don't have a huge status name because they don't have well known players endorsed by them
Bootsy
 3. The bridge is adjustable, so mm precision length wise is not so important, Side to side is much more so, have the neck on and the two outer strings to make sure its righ, mark it, and check it again. Remember you want the saddles to be slightly longer distance from the 12th fret than the nut is, due to intonation adjustment.

 5. The EBo pickup is a bit narrow spaced for going near the bridge. I've put a bass together with a Dimarzio Model 1 right at the bridge, and a narrow spaced bridge. Sounds prett defined like a bridge pup, always use it pair with the one at the neck though.
 6.
Didnt have bass wah's back then, and those Tychobrahe wah's are very hard to find All he did was use one of Tony's wah pedals and turned his amp all the way up (he used a guitar amp or head I think)
He uses a clone of the Tychobrahe now, it was in an interview, so they are available, have to go find the interview to find who makes it, some dude in america, probably a schematic online too.
 7. And I was all going to tell people you had bought a sensible bass for a change.
 8.
Aaaaah just go the whole hog and get one of these bad boys...
This is Doom
Get a better 2x15, or better drivers for the one you have, or a decent PA as noted above. A really good 2x15 will handle any gig if the PA is right.
This is not Doom

 10. After using a Hartke 2x15 I've always wanted to run a pair of them stacked. It would be beasty, but no reason why not.
 11. He's also selling the Bigsby as a bargain compared to the £140 new ones, even though the arm is missing, possibly broken off.
 12.
How would you sum up what you learned from doing this?
I like through stringing and Dimarzio and SD 1/4 pounders. I prefer bolt on necks. Stock pickups totally suck and even fairly cheap aftermarkets can make a lot of difference. It's pretty much a make your own choices though. I like big agressive full range sounds with tons of bottom. Oh, and everything else is dependant on the sound coming from your strings, the bass has to sound right unamplified before you can do anything else with it.
 13. There are bunches of plans about for Acoustic style SS amps, most people are obsessed with building valve though. I opened up mine and it seems fairly simple.

 15. There is this 5er in for sale: Clifton.
 16. Brass does age, it gradually becomes brittle and cracks. That could be like badly stored wood I guess.
 17. Based in Bristol, travel to Cardiff sometimes, potential to have my sister pick something up in Oxford or somewhere along the way back to Stroud (delivery might be less so, but know a good courier). Has chipped finish round a strap button, covered by the strap, and black knobs, as I was going to change the hardware to black, and I've long since lost the old knobs.
 18.
Hello Folks, A question for you those of you with a wealth of amp knowledge: On my Mesa Boogie Bass 400+ (all valve amp) I have 3 pairs of speaker outputs - 2x 2 Ohm, 2 x 4 Ohm and 2 x 8 Ohm. All fair and good. I was looking at Alex's 'Big One' speaker box and noticed that it is a 6 Ohm unit. What speaker output would I need to use or is it not worth entertaining such an idea with a valve amp? All and any help much appreciated, Cheers, Jon.
It will be happy on the 8 ohm tap, and probably on the 4. The impedance is only nominal anyway, it varies with frequency anyway. Lots of old guitar cabs use 15 ohm speakers, and the taps on my old Carlsbro are 3.75, 7.5 and 15, so there is wiggle room. That sort of efficient cab and a 400w valve amp will be ludicrously loud. I'd still go for the Vintage though. In fact, the Mesa guitar heads manual suggests 'safe mismatches' so they must use robust output transformers, I think its the Marshalls that are delicate and gave the reputation of all valve amps being so. Sviet interceptors continued using valve radios as transistor ones would cook in event of a nuclear explosion, and associated EMP, but a valve one would be fine, so they are tough.
 19.
I've used two 100w Marshall heads and an Ampeg and they've all gone down to 2 ohms, but having said that I haven't looked that closely at any other vintage amps - I just assumed they all did the same! On that note, I wonder how easy it would be to modify an output stage so it could drive a lower resistance?
You'd need a whole new output transformer, and some remodelling as it would likely be bigger. Also, its lower 'impedance', rather than resistance, means it's alternating current and varies with frequency. One of my vintage bass amps only has choice of 8 or 16.
 20. Depends on the parts, if you buy all the parts second hand, then you stand the same chance of losing out as if you bought a second hand bass. Plus you can mix and match for your next project. Pretty much all my Basses are bitsas to some extent, might just about be able to cover the cost if I sold them on, but certainly could cover it selling off the parts, just lose out on the tinkering time, and the cost of routing. Can't put a price on learning though. Kind of depends on how well you know what you want with regards to hardware, I did mine to learn how all the different parts sounded. I did find you can work round a dodgy neck joint fit by using the metal inserts and machine screws method to attach it. Decide if you like P basses of Jazz basses, since those are the ones bits to fit are easiest to find, means you can keep moving the parts onto the next bass.
 21.
woolly mammoth!!! they rock (with a passive bass )
But get someone to clone one, because they are stupidly overpriced for a really simple circuit.
 22.
Amazing, joegarcia said that without moving his lips!
He's out of town for a couple of days, so is likely suffering without Basschat. I've used this amp lots of times, since we share a practice space and a house.
 23. All of them. In a chain. Or look here: http://bassfuzz.com/ There are so many, also, checkk our own Umph's line: http://www.myspace.com/mammothsoundaudio
