Relic pros and cons of aside, but what the f**k would the point of those four off-centre holes, between bridge and pickup, have been? Even if a genuine period piece, those drill points would have been useless. The result of giving an idiot a paintstripper and electric drill, I suppose.
Copied off a photo of Jaco's bass, from the mutes, but you can only see them at an angle. Probably did it with the strings on too, so they had to be off line. Edit: Just had a look, and the ones on Jaco's are not in line with the strings.
2.
Why do people find it so hard to differentiate between active preamps and active pickups?
Isn't it because even 'active pickups' are a pickup with a preamp? Diffference is in where it's located.
3. I've got the pickups from one of these spare, since I never got round to rebuilding mine, and it will likely have new pups when I do, if someone scores this.
4.
Big cab = small d**k anyone???
I'll ask Joe when he gets back from work:
5. Here is a tip, read a while back, had to read through loads to find it again: Twisting the ball end to tighten up the windings: Tighten.
6.
Yes, I think our resident experts have elluded to the fact that putting too many different sized speakers in one box causes all sorts of problems.. I too would assume that a pretty amazing crossover would be needed for each speaker. however, I would have thought there is too much of an overlap between each for even a crossover to handle, no matter how good? It seems that Alex's cab, using a 15" and a 6.5" alone to cover the frequency range acurately is all that would be required (or multiples of, to move more air). I've noticed that PA manufacturers, such as Mackie use a similar configuration for an acurate reproduction of audio. (With th einclusion of a tweeter of sorts too). Tha aside, yes I would love to hear one.. with a Mark Bass F1 sat on top!!!!
I would guess its divvyed up inside into seperate compartments, maybe there is cunning tuning within them to sort the balance, like those cabs with a speaker inside and a slot, acoustic bandpass or something?
7. I've got all the Model Ones, mwahahahaha. Put a wanted up, I'll let you get the next one, even though my dual Model One P is so sweet, and so black.
8.
Do the strings look way off though? The thickest looks like it's gonna fall of the fretboard and the thinnest is about 1cm away! Also he coulda used the same drill bit for all the thru-body holes!
Routing is suspect too, not one of his better pieces, and I am a fan of his work. The strings can be sorted with some notching the bridge.
9. Surely there is not enough of a difference between 12s and 15s and 12s and 10s for there to be much point in having a hugely complicated crossover? Would rather have the 2x15 + 2x10 isobaric job Ampeg did, just with neo speakers.
10.
doesn't look relic'd as much as he's just set fire to bits of it.... how many actually old basses do you see that on?
In fairness, the cigarette burn on the headstock is a classic. Also some of the best bands set fire to their headstock's:
11. Do some iron on logos, so people have the choice of cover.
12. Depends on your optimum sound. New are loud but bright and clicky. Some like that, some don't. They do need stretching in though, to keep their tuning, usually its put new one, tune, play some bends, tune again and you are done. Generally, if the string touches the board, you are fretting too hard/too far from the fret, and bending the string out of tune. Depends on the size of your frets though.
13. There have got to be literally hundreds of good precision copies. The SX range were dead popular cheapies, but now the exchange rate is sucking, not so cheap, unless you can find one over here.
14. Paralell would be a 2ohm load, series would be 8. Maybe connect them actually in series, so its 8 ohm and see if it works better then.
15. is there a preamp out/power amp in? maybe use just one power amp and switch the preamps going into it, that would be fairly simple and keep switching at line level power.

17. generally there is a screw next to the ball end of the string that moves the saddle back when you tighten it. Depends on what sort of bridge you have. Basically you want to lengthen the string to compensate, till the high notes are in tune.
18. Pretty sure Joe is after the cash for this, he has an eye on something.
19. Mr. Foxen

Wah woes

Swap the wah switch into the place where the fuzz switch is (supposing this is the same layout as other snarling dogs pedals), so you can switch independant of wah position.
20. Wanna swing by bristol and swap for a used Tourman? Far too big for me.
21. I too, am now curious as to where all there 1/4 pounders are coming from. Rapid and easy deal.
