Warmoth.
The do a whole variety of neck sizes, I notice the mostly seem to say 'slim profile' which is not a description of what I want, how to describe what I do want would be useful. 'Like one of the cheapest basses you can get' is not ideal.

Mine has 8ohm, 150w speakers. They are the Celestions not the Bluelines though, but the maths is right if the Bluelines are the same

Ashdown ABM 810 vs Ashdown MAG 810 vs Marshal MBC 810
Mr. Foxen replied to KASH's topic in Amps and Cabs
Quote fail. Also, not having multiple 8x10s is not as good as multiple 8x10s. -

Ashdown ABM 810 vs Ashdown MAG 810 vs Marshal MBC 810
Mr. Foxen replied to KASH's topic in Amps and Cabs
If you keep an eye out you can score the Ashdown 8x10s pretty damn cheap, and more is better, if you don't like 1, try 2. My one is the older one with Celestion speakers, so not an ideal comparison with the newer jobs with the Blue Lines. -
Ace, thats exactly what is needed. Cheers.

If I want to run two cabs in series from one amp, what sort of cable do I have to knock up to do it?

I really like the profile of the neck on my Johnson bass, its a lot like a bat, thick and round, I was told its like the old tele bass necks, but I've never had hold of one. Gonna be looking for a new neck similarly chunky but with a little more quality, better fretting and finish etc. Any suggestions?

Another horrible franken bass is on its way, so this one is going through the motions of attempted sale: £175 gets you: solid wood body, Kent Armstrong pickups, Gotoh very adjustable bridge, left handed P neck, with brass ferrules and chunky hex head machine screws holding the neck on, with some sort of figuring in the maple, Wilkinson tuners, stack knob control plate. Since its cobbled together from bits, there is a gap between the scratch and control plates, and the screw heads on the neck plate were hand machined to shape. And the edge dots are on the wrong side. It plays and sounds great, but the faded fiesta red (pink) and the sound are not doom, its my polite sounding bass.
Hum...interesting. Is there any 2x15 good bass cab with powerful wattage in the market? I just loooved the low end. Or two 1x15 for that matter that make a good rig? Any 15" freaks around here? PS - has anyone ever played a 18"? curious about the sound
I have used a Hartke 2x15, its did pretty damn well considering what it was up against, later, the dude I bought my 8x10 from commented on how much low end there was at that gig:

If it was a 2x15 and had no tweeter, it was likely a sub and only designed to produce low frequencies, which would account for lack of definition. Generally bass cabs are designed to produce full range with tweeters and such, whereas PAs tend to only do this when they are small, larger ones tend to be split into tops and subs with crossover goodness. Although I might have made that all up.

12Ax7s are abit impractical. There are plenty of other valve that would do the job at far less current draw. They used to be cheap and plentiful is probably why there are the standard preamp valve.

Play it a little higher, no-one will know.

It just occurred, are you putting speakon connectors on the Vintage? Cause vintage heads don't comewith them, so you'll need a funny cable. And they won't look vintage. -
Lot of better smaller ocatve pedals about. Can get an M88 for £60.

wattage for valve heads- whats good enough?
Mr. Foxen replied to matt_citizenbass's topic in Amps and Cabs
thats exactly what i want for the clean channel then the distortion channel will be face ripping
Other thing to bear in mind old valve amps are wicked dodge for electrocuting you, so get it tech before you play with it if it hasn't been used in a while. -
You shouldn't have been allowed to announce that without first collecting the Easy Pass at Euston surely?
Not this soon after widdershins. Unless we are playing the turtleback variant, which I thought I was safe to suppose.

Mr. Foxen replied to matt_citizenbass's topic in Amps and Cabs
Get the same power you'd get with a solid-state head. With the same speakers the output ought to be the same, unless something is broken somewhere. Personally I'd be after 300W if I was intending to gig it.
Not really true, you can get more percieved volume from a valve head, and you can run a valve head in clipping and it sounds awesome whereas a SS will sound terrible. Running my Peavey firebass into an Aguilar GS412 at 475 watts was loud, but the limiter light was on quite a lot which is not ideal, the 400W Laney Nexus into the same cab, dub lows and awesome sound. The traynor at 200w seems quite sufficient for most purposes, and I supplement it with another 120W head also. If you have a decent cab, an old 100w valve amp will be ideal if you don't mind a bit of grind in your sound, budget half for the head and half for a service and revalve. Plug: Listen to myspace recordings, the clean bass is the Laney nexus 400w valve head, the distortion is that plus 120w head driving its nuts off, both into decent modern cabs. -
Issues + wrist bleeding = join an emo band. If I've been beaten to this I blame mad slow work internet.
+1 they aint that dear, new ones havnt suffered tuned tension for a long period either so feel good too. whats the point of boiling strings, unless mum and dad are paying for the leccy or gas to do it ! I tried this 25 years ago, shagged strings are shagged strings.
Depends what strings you use. 2 sets of the silly heavy guage I use cost more than I paid for a whole bass. Meths is the true path. Want a way to rejuvinate valves now.
