2. In another thread I did a bunch of maths and ended up pretty sure the speakers in my ABM 8x10 are 8ohm. Pretty sure its the same if it has Bluelines in. If it hasn't got blueliness in, totally give it to me and I will send you a lot of ebay links for 2x10s. In fact, if you want to whip out all the speakers, I'd be interested in the empty cab, pending some measuring and maths to make a 2x15 that matches my 8x10.
3.
Thanks for replies chaps. I did check in with pete (greeneking) before but just to be sure. If i go from the amp into my 8 ohm cab then out of that into the 4 ohm cab I'll get the 2.6 ohms.I got that bit.If i use just one of the outputs from the amp will it see an even 2.6 ohms or will the second cab in the chain (the 4 ohm one)still get more power than the first.Other than that will the amp see them both as just one 2.6 ohm cab ?? sorry for the confusion.
There isn't a first and second in the chain, the current is alternating, if the two cabs are different impedances the lower impedance one will be working harder, but the amp will 'see' the overall load.

6. I like my Carlsbro, gonna get it fixed up soon. Apparently it could stick 500v through anyone who touches it at a gig, which is a feature I feel should come with more amps.
7. Actually its partly my rig, I own half the 8x10 and half the Traynor, but I'm trading some other stuff I have for the rest of the 8x10. The rest of it belongs to another Basschatter, although in our latest live pics you can see me using most of it. Edit:
8. Don't put different impedance speakers in, its not just the total thats important, one speaker will be working twice as hard if its half the impedance of the other. Not sure its econoic to replace both speakers in a Behringer, unless you score cheap second hand speakers.
9.
With a solid state amp, running at a higher impedance means there's less current going through the amp. Current is what makes the amp get hot, and heat is what kills components and soldered connections. If you're having to thrash your amp at full power into the lowest impedance cabs possible, you need a more powerful amp, or more sensitive speakers. Or just more speakers A
Know what happens if you think like that? This:
10. Normal ernie ball guitar strings were long enough to reach on Joe's one of those, think his is 32" scale, we measured at some point. I think the octave strings will mean you don't need the brightness and clank of steels, and nickels will make your frets last better, as I would guess refretting that would be a ballpain.
11. You can plug an extention into the EB combos, the head part is kind of seperate, you can unplug the built in speaker entirely. You'll need a 8 ohm cab, the MAG 1x15 cab should be happy. Also, bear in mind you have a 5 band EQ on that combo, don't eq to sound nice on its own, fiddle with the mids once the guitards are done and find a place you can hear yourself. That marshall combo doesn't sound like a valve combo, its probably a hybrid, 150W of valves is seriously bit stuff, you'll se about 6 valves in it if that were true. Its probably a valve preamp, which isn't really the same, if the salesman tells you different, punch them in the face, or at least disregard everything they say.
12.
Back in the day, weren't there alleged benefits to running an amp at 8 ohms instead of 4?
I'm sure I was told I would be better off running my Firebass at 4 ohm rather than 2. Might have been a heat thing though.
13. Our drummer has a 70s Slingerland drum kit, its huge, and he reckons it's worth over a grand. He never lets anyone he doesn't know pretty damn well using it. We have a gig in Cardiff. The promoter wants us to lend our kit and bass rig to the other local band who he has added to the bill ahead of us 3 days before the gig. We told him no, due to drummer, and the fact I am borrowing the part of the bass rig from my housemate (we share gear fairly freely). Gig day: Because me and guitarist Bunjy were working drummer and van driver go to rehearsal space to get the stuff, collect me from work and head out. Bunjy and singer are driving there seperately. We get there, find the room nis up 2 flights of narrow stairs, I have 2 cabs the size of fridge freezers, lug them, amps and cases up the stairs. The local band have already set their kit up on stage, our drummer is all 'can I move it back to fit my drums on?', they say 'no', so he decides to set up in front of stage, he has a carpet with where all the drums go marked out to make it easy. That's when he realises he has forgotten his whole kit. He then has to beg to borrow the other band's kit, which wans't nearly loud enough, and we looked like a right bunch of idiotss. And the promoter refused to pay us the agreed fee, after we'd given money to other band for using their kit, so we ended up losing bunches of cash.

15.
That sounds awesome. The J must be instant dub-land. Pics ASAP please! You'd probably have room to stick another J in at the bridge too... Hold on! Surely John Paul Jones must have experimented with a J-P-J configuration, if only for the name?
Kinda hard to make out with black pickups in a dark scratchplate, also, twin P on my Mockingbird:
16.
In these trying financial times I do find it hard not to look at my Rickenbugger as an investment...
Perhaps you might find a potential purchaser among the users of a popular UK bassplayers' forum - particularly if you choos to sell your hard-to-shift former object of desire for an amount close to the pittance that you very likely paid for it in the first place?
17. Check sig for link, on Myspace. CHeck out how you can actually hear my bass! Pretty pleased, although all the dirt got mixed out of my sound, I ran one cab absolutely filthy.
18.
You'll like what's arriving in a couple of weeks then - 10 Compacts. That'll make two nice crossfired stacks 8' high with >108dB sensitivity and 5000W of power handling - that's >140dB SPL @ 1m. Looks what's coming to me tomorrow: Alex
That would need a lot of vintage valve amps.
19. Here is my new toy:
20. Plugged my most 'polite' sounding bass into it (didn't want to drop the low A right in), It has some crackles that will be servisolled in a bit, seems to be fairly 'punchy' and have lots of treble available, turning it up and you start to get a bit of drive when its pretty loud that sounds like a very mild drive pedal. The front cover is held on by some odd pre-velcro stuff thats like stickle bricks.
21. I got good support from them, mailed yesterday with my query, got a reply today telling me how to self fix it, as they are long past warranty.
22. This was a shared cab, looks like I'm buying the other half so I can do with it what I want, so will probably wire it to 16 ohm to match my head. Totally not comfortable mismatching either way, with vast amounts of contrary opinions from supposedly reliable sources.
23.
Did you go for this one? Ive got a 220 head which I use with a single 15 acoustic cab for smaller gigs Great amp Dont think they are fetching silly money though apart from the 360 range, Theres loads in the states and few over here. I bought my original 450 in 1977 from Kingfisher in Fleet who were the distributors at that time, and I have only ever seen a couple of acoustics ever since I was very tempted to bid on this and I watched the biddint at the end, but its a bit big and heavy these days.
Just traded it for another amp, deals with no money changing hands, my second favourite sort. AIn't made much noise with it yet, will be after dinner.
24. You know its not sounding amazing that makes basses worht a fortune, its having Fender written on them.
25. How about you read my post and email the guy, he is still looking.
