Well, I listed a bunch of pedals here and most were gone in an hour, immediately after Xmas, so there is also the Christmas money spending going on. Guess that goes as you get higher up the price range.

You see the Ashdown Electric Blue combos s/h for around that, one of them would last you a fair while. Missing a headphone out though, depends if you need that or you have an alternative. They take an extension cab too, so you have something to look foward to.

Pretty sure my white P bass copy will always be with me, although in constantly changing form. Mostly because it will never be worth anything.

i really want a dirty old, knackered valve amp
Mr. Foxen replied to matt_citizenbass's topic in Amps and Cabs
Mesa 400 is the mightiest valve head I've encountered. Probably posted enough of that pic of the Bongripper bass rig though. You can warm your hotdogs inside it though. Its like a forest inside, if the trees were valves. -
I've seen graphite saddles on guitars. They are self lubricating.
I'm self lubricating right now.
-
Thought part of the point of brass is it is slightly self lubricating also, or is that bronze? So the strings can slide over it better. Google says you get brass bearings so figures.

Valve amps tend to be more 'coloured' so you'd miss out on some of the sound coming from a bass. Plug a Fodera into a super clean rig, and it will sound like a Fodera. Plug it into a driven Ampeg, and it will sound like a driven Ampeg. Course with guitars, their natural sound is rubbish, and they need amp colouration, if you plug a guitar into a super clean amp it won't sound right at all.

Interesting, I've been turning down the bass on the eq and boosting the mids as my bass puts out a lot of low anyway, and the sansamp scoops mids when I kick it in. The head with it is matching and works pretty well as a guitar head, so guessing that has some treble boost going on on its own, it does have a treble input also, best doom guitar sound was patching between them.
-
It's a clone af the Acoustic 36x: much like: Jaco got plenty of mid in his sound, something special about those?
I have a behringer overdrive pedal and it sounds terrible. Though what should i have expected for £15?
The bass overdrive does indeed sound terrible, a side by side comparison with the Boss one showed them to be near identical, fractionally more hiss with the treble turned past 2o'clock on the Behringer.
-
Usually you want high mass saddles don't you? The hardness might do some good, but I don't think thats usually a huge consideration, makes them a pain to file and possibly damage your strings.

A weird technique. Is there a name for it?
Mr. Foxen replied to cheddatom's topic in Theory and Technique
I recall a vid of a guy with a many stringed bass talking about 'precussive harmonics' which he'd apparently invented, pretty sure it was doing that. I do it where guitarist would do a pinch harmonic. -
That's an interesting observation - this shoot, at least in part, was intended to explore objectification and to question if that always means the subject retains (or in fact loses) any sense of individuality or empowerment. I'd really welcome some input on the subject.
All people have butts, not all pose with a guitar between their cheeks, thus it is more individual than not doing so. Being made of imperfect wood, all guitars are individual, but they are still assigned classifications, and have certain expections made of them, which on the whole, they will fulfil. Pretty much everyone knows how to make another person, but only a few can make a guitar. Also, this thread. Oh, Oh, and if a bass is an object, and you get asked the question 'Do you love the bass more than you love me?', who is guilty of comparing to an object (she is gone, the bass remains).

I bought one of the Warwick Rockcase pedalboards, and scored a chunk of foam from the sofa shop to hold the pedals in. They are a bit soft metal, but look tough, so it got battered very fast in a shared rehearsal space with other people moving your kit about. Got an old case that I was considering converting, but I just don't use enough pedals to be worth it.
-
For the purposes of those charts, is the speaker at the mouth of the horn, or is their fun with horn length as the speaker is inside? And for micing, is cramming a mic inside it going to give me a poor representation of the sound of the cab, but a less coloured one? Micing it has been a the main pain with it, mostly due to sound engineer unfamiliarity with it, been using sansamp DI instead. The sticking your head inside it to see what the mic will hear didn't give a spectacular result.

For Behringer pedals, the one you don't need to stomp on (like limiters and compressors) are the good ones, because its their plastic breakyness that is their downfall.
