JHK just kindly dropped this round my flat this afternoon. Original thread [Blatantly stolen photo] It indeed matches the Ohm head I have. I hoovered the loose stuff off of it and cautiously plugged in, see if it makes sound. It does indeed, pretty cutting treble, seemed to agree well with the head, fairly punch slap sorta sound, kind I'd sort of associate with Trace Elliot and someone who can actually play slap. Thisproduced a fall of white dust, so cleaning time. Heres where the problem is, levered off a cover hoover and a soft brush got rid of the white stuff, tried to put cover back and it springs itself into the surround of the cone and wrecks it. Not careful enough. Swearing etc. Move to next one and the surround has attached itself to the cover and chunks of it have come off with it. So its going to be a replace speakers sort of job, not unexpected, not the outcome I was hoping for as soon as it turned out to make noise. Any tips on replacing reconing speakers? They aren't round at the edges and sit in recesses, so might be a pain there. I've mailed the company mentioned in previous thread. Also, how do you make 4 ohm out of 6 8 ohm speakers? Is it creative rounding?
God knows. I see some peeps use a Marshall Guvnor - are they any good?
They are awesome, the original black ones at least. Also, can replace 2 caps and make them even more awesome (credit to Umph for this suggestion). They lose some bass, unless you make this change, but the eq can kind of compensate, I'm talking about losing some of the absolute bottom when tuned down to A. Also, might be selling one of mine, don't want to though

I'd like Bristol. Can bring the Wishbass that I never play anymore. Probably some pedals too.
I forgot....one of my favourites for lurking over vintage Japcrap; Electric Ladyland, Old Market. Just a visit alone, is an experience in itself.
I'm not sure it will be a good experience for 16 yr old tbh. Gave me a fear of what might happen if I buy too much old gear.

I wipe over the bottom with meths to degrease it before I stick on tape. Sofa shops are good to score a chunk of foam for inside the lid, I stash my cables on the inside of the lid and put foam on top.

The muff is famed for it. Chino from Seerkind (sings in my band) loves his muff but it doesn't agree with actives.
Okay, so if I want one - what the best option?
I don't think there is an option of only owning one overdrive. Maybe only one at a time.

Best woould be to learn both ways. And grow a mullet.
There's always Reverb. OK, it's not exactly inspiring but a beginner friend of mine recently bought one of those Squire starter packs and it's not a bad deal for the money. I'd suggest he stays well away from Rickaxxe, unless Eugene is working.
Eugenes not working there any more. Met him in Aldi, he still says 'bass' most words though.
Hey Foxen, Sounds good - I'll pass the offer on. I've posted a few pedals to that flat, I think. And Joe has one of my old basses. Only problem is that this kid's a lefty - there just aren't as many bargains out there!
Oh, man, there was a lefty Thunder II for sale for ages and he was willing to take a crappy offer cause of a neck break (Waghorn could fix for economical amount). Must be gone by now.
I really took it personally when I was a kid,so I learnt to play...FAST,speed was everything, lps and tapes worn away,chords,drones..basically I was Motorhead fan, anything to undermine or remove the need for another guitarist,Cream,Coroner,The Ox's parts in the Who are a massive influence, the typewriter, basically ANYTHING to remove the ryth player,to free up space for myself,to allow more melody, distortion (the only pleasure that 'Grunge' gave me was that dirt was in sonic fashion)...even technique...I can fill out the space..anything..ANYthing to remove the extra guitarist 'problem'...Dont GIVE anyone the chance to say anything against you,set your Bass to KIL KIL KIL!!!!
I learnt pretty similar. Now I play root notes at 34bpm.

Drum bank is one of the better shops to go into. But the awesomest source of a huge variety of basses and bass related equipment and knowledge is past the town end of Glos. Road in Stokes Croft, in the flat I live in with Joe Garcia. Plenty of awesome bargains we both see in every concievable second hand bass selling place and constantly try and encourage each other to buy. Happy to chat bass and have a cup of tea any time, since I'm not working at the moment, and if he can give me an idea of budget, can steer him towards something local and ideal on the second hand market, and I'll do a setup and such on it, cause I'm really that bored.

Bridge Mute Tape found on old Fenders and MusicMen
Mr. Foxen replied to a topic in Repairs and Technical
There is some nasty melted looking goo on the pre EB MM I've seen, looks like it used to be foam rubber stuff. -
Anybody here ever pick slide/string scrape?
Mr. Foxen replied to nick's topic in Theory and Technique
One of those jellyfish picks might do a slide impression on flats. Also, think punker stuff has the gratuitous pick slides: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=EKaZuVaJGbI My web-fu is too weak to embed. -
Tempted? Stereo in and out for still being synchronised if you biamp, or does panning. Was planning on using for extra nauseating factor with horrible oscillating feedback. Blurb: http://line6.com/tonecore/tapTremolo.html Bit poor ight now, and its the most spare pedal I haven't already tried to sell. £30 + post

Are those stainless steel? If you have gone from nickel to stainless streel strings, then they will feel rough and eat your fingers in comparison.

Solid metal knobs with grub screw and smooth inside in shiny gold, £6 posted. EMG-35HZ made in USA pickup, no connector though, £12 Gone. Jazz style control plat with pots, silver dome knobs on. On closer inspection and recollection, its currently wired for stereo ouput. I could probably undo that, or unsolder it and put a normal jack in, let you wire it how you want instead (looks liek a I did a poor job of it tbh). £10 inc post. Johnson EMG ceramic pickups, a P set in white and a J set in black, £6 a set inc. post. Generic ceramic musicman style humbucker, 4 conductor wiring to coil tapping etc. £12 Gone.

Are you or yr band political?
Mr. Foxen replied to Mr Shiny Cadillackness's topic in General Discussion
Communism would be great if it wasn't for people messing it up...
I think that can safely be said about any political system. Even National Socialism declared the undesirables to be not people, so that would have worked better than most if it wasn't for foreign troublemaking. -

I had a click touching thing with emgs, turne out the coneector to the pickup was on the wrong way round.

Much better off matching the impedance, otherwise it will be rather unbalanced. 15 low for trouser flapping, 10s high for hearing/chest punching.
