Ultimate way to check would be get a new nut and string two identical strings, one each way on your bass, so you can directly A-B it. I prefer through strung, seems to make more vibration come through the wood, guess cause the saddles are being pulled right into the body.

I have one of those Wilkinson jobs, scored it on the bay as it looked suitably industrial. Lost a ball bearing, no its screwed. No idea how to sort it. Any suggestions?

Its hard clipping or square wave distortion. Solid state has a very specific point where it stops amplifying, so on the wiggly line graph, it would just stop when you tried to make the wave too big and square off the top and bottom of the peaks and troughs, in a way that is not harmonically pleasing to the ear.

No idea how to google it, but there was a program that could draw stuff on the burnable side of the cd round the edge, provided you didn't use full capacity, gave you an image round the edge in the slight colour change of burnt cdr. If its freeware might add some novelty factor.

Email newtone strings and ask what they reccomend, and how much it would be. Then you can figure if you can make up such a set, but you are probably best off getting it from them. Tuning in 5ths is cool, gives you nearly 5 string range, interesting brain excercise though.

The 'love' you put into making it is the most important factor in generating 'mojo'. Heavy vs light tuners, hmm, the fat finger exists for a reason, so maybe lighter isn't always better. Definitely fingers, then strings, then pickups. In fact, prettymuch track the sound from the source and that gives you the best guide. Oh, neck joint is pretty important and easily overlooked..

First thing to ask yourself is what do you not like about it? Then ask what you do like about it, and balance hte two. Is it worth changin, or trading up for something else. A skim of the frets to knock the high ones down shouldn't cost much, I had it done and EMGs installed (including new pots I didn't provide, and a few more pots and switches I asked him to order as spares) and it came to £70.

I'd probably hold out for a much bigger amp. At the end of the day thats just a bigger practice amp. I have a 30w amp, I bypassed the internal speaker and run it into one of my cabs, suddenly it gets much louder, it little combos its the speaker that is the limiting factor.

Original badass bridges are wicked tall and theres a few floating about that won't fit Fenders. A well fitted block of wood would also work. The trussrod only changes the curve in the neck, which should be only just off totally straight (can check by fretting a string at either end of the fingerboard and seeing if there is a gap, when strings are at full tension). I'm guessing you've already taken the adjusting the grub screws on the bridge as far as is sensible.

Those velcro on aerobics weights round the strap on the bridge end of the strap. Heavier butbetter balanced.

Might be interested in doing something once I move, chance to play some notes high enough to be audible would be nice. Plus I can steal Joe's pedals to play with then.
