I was watching it cause I like the style, if its going, let me know, but also say why its going so soon. Thats a pretty good indicator that a chunk of your money is safe.

Pick up a second hand Boss ME50B, decide what you like, and sell it on to the next perosn who wants to try pedals. For metal, you can't go wrong with the Boss ODB3, most bands I've seen use one for their bass drive, eq and blend mean vast amounts of tweak if you don't like the first sound you get.

Actually pretty sick of seeing it now.

I'd really like to be able to do that, but I know the most useful thing I'd get from doing it would be picking up other peoples basses, doing that, then going 'Nah, don't like it, plays a bit slow.'

Stay away from Mr. Sheen, that has silicon in and that makes finishing pro's angry. Everyone hates silicon. Unless it hasn't got silicon in and I made that up. Natural beeswax, Rustins wood finishing products are all good.

That would be making me regret, but turns out I have to sort a deposit on a new room, so good thing I didn't jump on it really.

If it broke, it is probably cause the slot wasn't quite big enough, graphtechs do that, they are brittle. Whilst unemployed I filed one out of a bone from the butchers, worked pretty well. Set of files is ytou best bet, I found a graphtec slightly too thick for my p copy so I skimmed it down with wet and dry laid over a piece of glass ( totally flat that way).

Tim Commerford uses left handed necks cause they give him more tension in his low B. More string free to stretch means more tension needed to stretch it, is how I see it.

I got one of those through sting only bridges, with lots of allen bolts to tighen it. You can feel the body resonate a lot more than the bent plate job, and it sustains for days, but I had trouble with string length, I wish I'd gone with onoe that had the option. The silk is a cut and burn job, unless you run out of thick bit, whish is the trouble I had.

I have a suspician my basses will get named after my exes, one in particular will take on the name of one in particular, it was delivered to her house, and it was a bit rubbish, I worked on it, and it got better, but ultimately its only filling in till I get a better one, but I will look back on it fondly. Seems harshly appropriate.

Now I checked out Buckethead's other stuff, he is suddenly my favourite guitarist.

Also, buying bits off Ebay isn't necessarily the cheapest way. Often a body will sell for around the same price as a whole bass. Might be best off scoping a cheap Squire, SX or other solid wood reasonable rep cheapy and resculpting it for your needs. If you want the personal touch, without the finding the bits don't fit, get a kit, hit up ebay for some random upgrade parts as they come cheap, pass the drying and sanding time that way. There are plenty of bridges for not much on ebay and my experience of them has been good, I like the coutour ones, as long as the is enough grub screws, it should all lock together and you can adjust the action and intonation to suit. If you are local to Bristol, I'll gladly give a hand or pointer.

WAsn't the King Crimson guy taping cut down drumsticks to his fingers? Sure I read about it recently on actual paper so musta been a recent mag.

I have dead strong nails, but there is a sweet spot length that you can control your sound with finger angle, but I generally just cut them all off.

I've been working my way up to it for the last coupla years, from buying a cheapy and switching everything out to figure how stuff affects to the sound, defretting and refretting, and most recently, I got a outline blank body and used the neck off my first electric to make a new guitar: Problem is my huge accumulation of spare parts and butchered intruments.

I went Buzzard, stupidly pointy death machine, but also apparently practical when hung on the Ox.
