1. I've got a Fender one, its been primered, and my housemate seems to have claimed it as his own. Offers?
2.
Aldi!? how much did you pay for it? is it any good?
Dunno yet, the soldering iron from there (gas) is awesome, I think as long as everthing spins right and such the main thing it the quality of the bits.
3. Whats the advantage of last minute bidding? The auction goes to whoever bids most first, if someone is bidding dodge and get more than you, its will get relisted, and try again, if they push the bid up, they can't push it past what you were willing to spend. I bid on an item listed here, the amount I had ready to pay for it, someone tried feeling me out last minute, by bidding £5 more each time, but they ran outta time and I won cause I'd not tried to last minute it, and it was below my max bid anyway.
4. What are good things to make for practicing using a router? I just bought one from Aldi, Gonna practice with the bits that come with it on scrap wood, and get some quality bits for anything real. I'm looking for the equivalent of making candlesticks when learning to use a lathe.
5. CAn't you use the existing casing and have the content replaced or rewound?
6. If you get it and don't want it, I'd probably buy it at that price, so not much risk there. Unless its a pink one, or I fail to sell anything.
7. I used Rustin's danish oil, which contains tung on my Wishbass, and on my current build, works pretty well. Satin/matt through. Its all about the sanding first.
8. Maybe related somehow, but when I took the pickups out of the Mockingbird I have, it appeared to be the same as the one in my Westone thunder. Dunno if the Westone had been upgraded or they just had good pups in, it had a fender j pickup in it as well, so its not unlikely.
9. Veneer, of whatever sort of wood you fancy, online searching or a wood place will sort you. If you are really cheap, score offcuts from some woodworker, in a variety of shades so you can code your fretlines.
10. Did it, The sound out of it is most like the sound you hear when you put your ear against the bass acoustically. The random pickup from an old washburn is not as hot as the Kent Armstrong P though, and will need replacing at some point.
11. Thought it would be good to add that I have a 4 ohm 15" black widow speaker spare.
12. I know a guy local to me selling one. Send me a PM and I'll phone him, too oldschool for internets.
13.
Me too.
Ditto
14. I scored one in a classifieds for £45, was trashed though. It seems a really nice bass.
15. If no-one else bids on that I can just about afford it... Yeah, so those suck, I mean, really, a lot.
16. Best I've had was a Washburn MG70 shredder, cheap cause it was encased in grease and all the strings had popped out the locking trem, so it looked a state. If you are worried about missing it, get them to put it aside, and take a card, hit up the internet, you can phone and cancel.
17. Any desire to own a Boss ME-50B, cause thats what it would make obselete? Its got tuner and compressor. Or a Boss ME50 normal?
18. My housemate (the her of a couple) told me a hungover morning after that he had got up and apparently intended to take a leak in the corner of the room into his acoustic, and looked pretty grumpy when she shouted at him to stop. My Wishbass smelt decidedly herbal when I got it, and full refinish sorted that.
19. Its pretty much like a 5 string, without the confusing, the cheapy 5 set I got to try out suffered from slack B syndrome, that is common, the elicir set on my new BC rich sound pretty even, although being very second hand they are dying. I'm itching to steal the Dean markley tapered set of my unplayed Peavey, but it wouldn't have a good set on to demo to buyers then. Might have to score some more. Course the other root is some .50s and tune to D, got some Ken smith strings on the way to try that, the open D will allow more goat throwing while riding the root. When I was drop tuning my guitar, I just picked up a guage hevier low E to even it out.
20.
I have one small problem with this - where do you find those Grolsch bottles? I have been on the look out for months and can't find anywhere that stocks them. The Grolsch ring-pulls don't work half as well! If anyone's got a couple of them spare I'll paypal you the cost of a bottle of Grolsch in return. elom
Bars have them, the sort of bars that are overprice and full of a-holes generally. I have a ready supply, being an a-hole and all. That last part isn't true, I had to persuade my teetotal housemate to have a bottle so I wouldn't have to spend a second drinking time in that bar.
21. Was gonna say post a link to the build thread, then I realised that was lazy: Here it is
