1.
Also afaik there are very few valve factories in the world so unless you commission one to build to your specs (rather than just badging them for you) surely you are left with grading what they send you.
The come in a tolerance range. These seem to be tested and the on spec ones labelled "nitrous" and the 10% under spec ones labelled "clean". The +10% ones presumably go elsewhere.
 2.
- Analogue gear is expensive to buy and maintain. It also tends to be heavy to lug about.
That doesn't work at all.
 3.
We have not removed the acoustic jackets since we have only just received these in stock from a UK supplier but we have tried them in several amps and we like them a lot. They are branded Rocket Tubes. On our testers and curve trace we have found both variants to be low noise and high quality tubes in terms of emissions and drive. There is roughly about 10% difference in ovrall gain between the Clean and the Nitrous versions with the Clean coming in the mid 90's and the Nitrous just over 100. We think these will be winners.
12AX7 should be 100 as per data sheet (got data sheet for these?), 90 is pretty flawed. Which is kind of standard for modern valves, but testing them and calling the flawed ones a feature is well dodge. Unless they are loads cheaper because they are seconds. Edit:
state-of-the-art technology
Ha
 4. So who makes these? Hard to see with the labels around them. So when you say 'low gain' do you mean a 12AT7 and high gain 12AX7?
 5.
Next step will be to fit a NOS Sylvania in V1, then try JJs in V2 and V3. I will be monitoring their condition closely, and this brings me to my final observation, one I am reluctant to make after dropping £349 to own it - the Orange valve tester might not be all that!
If you are Bristol way, can come try them in my tester with actual buttons and levers and suchlike.
 6.
+1 Shows why Ian Dury was a 'one off'.
Its all wrong with actual 'singy' singing.
 7. Depends on the solder. The solder might say, possibly on manufacturers site.
 8. Knobs turned up half way doesn't mean half power. 18mm ply is popular for crude unbraced cabs, but you can use thinner if you use other means to make it stiff and non-resonant.
 9. I made a thread for BCers travelling who can move stuff between BCers and offered to act as a hub of sorts (since I work at home) but it fell off pretty quickly. I'm in Bristol and don't mind the odd bass laying about.
 10.
What I really mean is i don't really care what tone i get from the sound guy as long as i can hear myself on stage. If my DI from my amp and the valve blow up during the gig, will it affect the DI signal from my head to the desk? Or i DI from my MXR M80, if the head goes down i can still carry on but use the stage monitor as reference instead of my rig on stage? If that make any sense. 1) Which means if the bass output to the input of my head then DI out from my head or 2) Bass output to the input of the M80, then M80 output to the input of the head and at the same time also DI output to the PA.
On the LB the DI is from the output, so if it dies, the DI dies, so you will need a backup one for that.
 11. "Don;t get lessons from me, I'll only teach you my bad habits": every accomplished oldschool bass player I ever wish I'd picked stuff up from when I had the chance.
 12.
They sounded great but I have Mesa Boogie Road Ready cabs to thank for my bad back.
Roadie ready
 13. Those the voltages without any valves in? It drops when you are running some. Cheapy valves sometimes start dying pretty soon, had a lot of 'working' amps where the valves don't test great. The orange tester give you any clue what was wrong?
 14.
Are you legally required to put up a warning sign every time you set up that rig?
People seem to get the idea soon enough.
 15.
For Mr. Foxen: Attenuator is REAL volume control. So if you crank the gain full but it's way too loud you can use the attenuator to bring the volume down but without affecting the tone. This is awesome for 2 reasons; 1. You now have a stadium shattering amp that you can still use at bedroom volume with maxed out gain & 2. You have complete dynamic control over the 3 gain stages For AndThenSome1: £380, 400w, 8ohm
How is it tube? mostly, I know what an attenuator is, they tend to work off resistors
 16.
Pardon me but what is 'sound focus'? Can you explain the physics of this?
Basically, think why when you mic stuff, you put it close to the speaker. That's where sound is not affected by stuff.
 17.
EDIT: Listening now. One of his better tones. Bit thin still for my taste but the grind and growl is great.
He's only using half his sound there, only one jack out, the middly one, all the beef from the mudbucker is missing. Big muddy low and really thin cutting mid combine to huge, but you really miss it if one is missing.
 18.
The larger the cab system, the further away the sound focus will be, meaning in rehearsal you are probably not hearing what the amp's doing at all, and fewer drivers running will strangely be easier to hear close up.
Doesn't work like that.
 19. I think the guy is being straight enough. Just had an exchange where I explained how the ebay system works and he has edited it to spares or repair. He just doesn't know. If he sells it as 'used' it assumes all working and you can claim against him via ebay, now listed as spares or repair, can't claim he's pretending its probably good, pretty much assume the worst.
 20. I like the violinists face throughout. Also, what's the neck like, skinny jazz type?
 21. They are a nice extra to offer when shipping, but they take up too much room.
 22.
TUBE attenuator
What's one of these?
 23. Getting a paypal invoice sent offers same protection as ebay without the fees.

 25. Small quantities, I use ebay, big suppliers don't consider it worth their time to work in the dozens. Turns out one big wholesale supplier scrapped their BA stock because no-one ordered in large enough quantities for it to be worth storing. I wanted to buy a few hundred so I'd never run out for amps and be able to see sets on ebay.
