1. Post up measurements of the cabs you have, and the specific drivers you have, then we can tell if they are worth messing with.
2.
yes, but I still want only one control knob on my amp. Dual concentric pot at a push...
Plenty of preamps with one knob about. More commonly two though, in and out, or being stereo. Its the other knobs that come on things that make them marked for 'bass guitar', just need to look at plain preamps if you want simple.
3.
Something that converts the signal to line level and then into a power amp to hoof it out of the speaker would be ideal...
A preamp.
4.
I took my old Trace 15” cabinet apart. Thick MDF, simple square edge to edge butt joins, no internal bracing or acoustic wadding at all. Plus one Celestion C15H-200 marked 'Custom made for Trace Elliot' I thought it sounded great and the speaker seemingly indestructible but it was just another simple box - made to right volume with the correct ports of course but absolutely nothing special about the construction.
Probably not a one handed lift though.
5.
care to name a few? only other heads that ive seen are svt, vba 400 and the ashdowns. theres a nice one on here but not interested in trades and ive got no funds to offer. andy
See link in my sig. There are dozens.
6. Could probably do better than the Orange for that sort of money going vintage, and serviced properly.
7.
Where is Mr Foxen for the experienced viewpoint please?
I have none experience with amps that large. But if these people that have won expensive amps on ebay actually pay up, I'll be bidding, because I want that experience. Pair of Barefaced 2x15s running off that will be enough loud.
8. What are you hoping to achieve? If it is more volume with the same tone, you need two rigs the same and be careful about how you place them. If you are doing the dual amp thing for tone, best thing is to cut all the lows from one to avoid mess there.
9.
Who IS this Mark Percy fella? I've just had a v quick look at his site but I'd rather hear about him from BCers. So, go on, who is he?
He's the guy who got Iron Maiden their record deal, apparently.
10. Not a Rickenbacker, but I have a couple of my basses wired to dual mono output. It isn't really stereo either way, its two monos. I use two rigs with their own fx chains. Means I can do funny effects with the volume controls.
11. Trace cabs are a known quantity. Random cab might be tuned wrong. With guitar cabs its an even smaller deal though, big enough box, same speakers, basically stiff solid construction, good to go.
12. Any I see I send my details to, so I can help sort a deal if it gets pulled. Sorted a couple like that.
13. Good opening of total BS followed by no low end in the sound at all. Still talking about watts without any of the qualifying info with THD and bandwidth, so as bad as anyone else.
14.
When I took it in to fix the guy said it was not worth fixing, as the way its built meant that a massive section of the amp just had to be replaced, not just the bit that broke.
That makes it really easy to fix, as long as Behringer will supply you the part. I've not dealt with them directly, but heard they are OK with that. Ampeg are the same, except a total pain in the nuts to deal with.
15. Too many people think gain means distortion and that is a pain in the nuts.
16. New acoustic, aside from teh guy who licenced it for really high end repros of the old ones, are a cheap product and money was spend of buying the name to stick on them. Behringer are probably as cheap, but spent the money on the product instead of the name.
17. Downloading your material and using it for commercial purposes?
18. I've had auctions puled for using my pictures before. I've bought an amp that had a photo of one of mine too, and got £50 refunded for not being what I bought.
19. Plus you can see if a while of not selling means they edit and drop the price.
20. So have Ernie Ball apologised publically to ProMusicTools for the damage their mistake caused?
21. There is a fairly new Simms Watts fan site thing, I've already sent the guy a heads up, might be good to get in touch with:http://simmswatts.homeunix.net/twiki/bin/view/SimmsWatts
22. Kappalite 3015LF, can't remember other stuff. am packing up for a gig. PM me in an hour or so and I'll be able to look for more info, it had an extensive build diary here and on Finnbass ages ago.
23. I have an Omni 15 tallboy going spare, its a bit massive though.
24. In short, the cabinet's own resonance is 40hz. The consequences thereof are the complicated part.
25. Isn't neo that shapes the midrange, just another design parameter.
