1. Kappalite 3015 is fairly forgiving being stuck into an existing cab, but sometimes you can retune to benefit more. Lining also helps. The 3015LF is a sub driver so not a goer. The Celestion is not as good as the Kappalite.
2. If you amp has a bas control, then that fixes the bass heavy problem.
3. I thought analogies have to work to be nice, and that one doesn't.
4. Which one of the 2x12 or the 2x10 do you like the sound of?
5.
preamp is now on ebay
Probably should sort your keywords there. DI pre amp amplifier preamplifier direct input injection interface, however much of that will fit, spaces instead of slashes because those make searching bad.
6.
There are a lot of things that are fabulously designed from a technical point of view. Doesn't always mean they sound great
Its the pro sound engineers you need to pay attention to, the stuff you look at is more likely to be there for just that purpose the bigger the gig. As soon as something is close miced, then its a small part of one speaker you hear out front. And even then a DI is most likely to be involved.
7. Rig for gig at The Croft, Bristol on Monday:
8. Probably fussiest lead dress I've seen, see the wires along the preamp board are stepped where each leaves the bundle.
9.
How so? Sorry, the amp and speaker side of things really aren't my area.
Means it needs 8 to 16x as much power to reach the same volume as a fairly basic suitable for bass guitar 15" driver. The DB rating is how loud it is with 1w of input power. The Eminece Delta 15, which is in the scheme of things a cheapy, has 100db sensitivity, and you need to double power to get each extra 3db.
10.
Thanks guys So basically I can use any amp as long as its not causing my cab to distort. Now........Which cab should i get?
Budget, sound you are after, amount of volume you need.
11.
SPL @ 1W/1M: 86dB
means pretty much not worth bothering with.
12. For Barefaced Compact size to work, need a Barefaced Compact typed river, about £175 for a driver.
13. These the same jobs that Om use currently?
14.
A bit, but people have been studying this stuff since circa 1876, so at this point there isn't anything in the realm of audio that hasn't been scientifically explained. But it's not the sort of stuff they teach in secondary schools, nor even at the university undergraduate level at most institutions, not even those with EE programs.
Meant more the stuff like 'this rig is the wrong colour, therefore it sounds bad' type stuff. Lots of it about, in many minds, the most significant contributor to tone is the name badge.
15. You'll probably need to rephrase the question in that case. If you can hear something, its directly observed, and science can cover directly observed stuff pretty quickly, so its going to be all of it. The bit your brain makes up is a bit harder, but the relevant bits are also covered.
16. Problem with rms thermal watt ratings is it perfectly possible to break a 350w cab with a 200w amp if you exceed the excursion limit of the cab, since that is probably going to be a 100 to 150w below 45hz or so, and some amps cab boost low end below that level so they appeal to people who think that is useful.
17. They are different numbers, but they are both basically meaningless with regards to what sort of amp it can take. The limits that provide those numbers aren't much to do with the limiting factor on how loud you can go, which is speaker excursion, and you basically need a graph to show that since it varies with frequency. In practice the way to tell is play it clean, and turn down when you hear distortion, either volume or bass is the thing that needs turning down.
18. https://www.facebook.com/events/190456127767078/declines/?notif_t=group_activity Warrior Pope being my thing.
19. Bit of tape measure work should tell you how far you need to move the bridge once you put a standard length neck on it. Then you can tell me, because I'm curious.
20. Having a 4x10 and a 1x15 plugged into the same amp is totally incomparable with using different drivers for different frequency bands.
21. Post up which speaker it is, Eminence do tons. Means someone can say if it is a goer to start with, bunches of speakers aren't really suited to playing bass through.
22. This is the USA made SUB: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/194883-usa-made-musicman-sub-in-teal/page__p__1914100__hl__sub__fromsearch__1#entry1914100 Not much more money, but used.
23.
With the emphasis slowly moving away from the recorded version being the dominant product to the live performance, and streaming subscription services taking over from having a "local" copy of the audio file, what happens when a band coming up to renew it's streaming licences decides that the pittance being offered by services such as Spotify is no longer sufficient and from now on the only way an audience can continue to hear their song will be to pay to see them play live?
Isn't that more of a 'moving back to' since recorded music in audible form isn't something that existed for the majority of time music has.
24. Only if you have the volume turned right up and play through it as hard as you can right away. If you jsut turn down the bass/bolume if the cab farts, then its fine.
25.
Not meaning to offend anyone but I’m intrigued why you would dislike working with valve half stacks (used proportionally & appropriately of course) if you have that sort of background??
4x12s tend to be disproportionate. They were supposed to be for bass for starters, and speakers have got louder in the meantime. 4x12 syndrome where the guitarist sits on it and tried to eq the treble they can't hear back in is still far too common. Going to many small metal gigs probably makes it all seem especially bad in my experience.
