1. Depends what they actually do. As you can see from MDP in the ebay section, a lot of people can describe themselves as pro. This is what you get for a £45 setup from an actually fussy luthier sort: http://www.edgeguitarservices.co.uk/rout_serv/basic.htm But local guitar shop guy will do one for £15 including strings that is fiddle with the adjustables and clean the board. I do basic stuff for some bottled ales.
2. They were an instrument dealer, not sure they were a current Fender dealer, as in contracted to Fender currently. They sold fake Hiwatts whilst owning the Hiwatt brand though.
3. Replacing all of the stuff on a Squier with US stuff and all the other work and time would make it cost more than buying a Fender for a dealer. And probably make an as good or better instrument. As for the Ricks on ebay, depends if you think over a grand is easy to come by.
4. Body end truss adjustment is a cross screw head type thing, not a nut (well, it is a nut inside, but there would be no point in putting a bit of threaded bar in, because it can't be seen). Never take stuff to dealers for adjustment, they aren't techs. Sounds a lot like you just had a Fender, and a dealer who didn't know what they were up to and broke the end off your truss rod.
5. Those updates might be a bit more recent mind. Although the Squiers about the time they might look about the same would be Japanese and thus superior in build to the US ones. Also, just because someone is a Fender dealer, doesn't mean they know anything about Fenders outside of the latest catalogue.
6. I still have tons of old valves I can sell some of.
7. If the name on the headstock was the only difference, then the thing you are paying too much for is the name on the headstock, doesn't mater who put it there. Buy a bass to play it, pay for its own qualities, rather than association.
8. Bit carved up, but an excellent deal I'd have grabbed if I was flush.
9.
In 1991 when Robert Maxwell Died “At Sea” my band, contracted to mirror group video lost everything, music rights, fees, copyright and I lost all my guitars and amps which I found out belonged to the suits, not me, my guitars Gibsons, Fenders, Rickenbackers and Martins and my many Fender amps all went out the door taken by Crombie coated, gold teethed thugs. Much less of a loss you might say than the mirror pensioners who lost it all. But over the last few years I have made do with Squires and Epiphones, tangelwoods and transistor fenders, I had to go without a 12 string and 4000 series bass. But now things have got better and I have gradually replaced my collection, all but a ricky bass, the prices are outrageous and Rickenbacker are not to blame, all this talk about having to wait years for delivery for new stock, what a load of rubbish, its retailers with their false perception of value of both new and second user items that’s causing the problem’s and this has stagnated the second hand market to. I have spent an hour or so for about a year now looking for a fireglow 4003 on ebay and what do I see the same old basses, brand new being listed over and over again and never selling I checked the serial numbers of these so called new basses and some of them are five and six years old surely that must indicate to the shopkeepers that the market price is just to high! It’s just the same with the private sellers relisting the same bass month after month for £1500 second hand bye it now. Some get so embarrassed when their “investment probably never been out the box” doesn’t get a bid and they withdraw it saying sold else ware, only to relist change the photos etc a few weeks later.
This is because RIC control all their dealers, they don't make enough basses to supply demand, because it keeps the price artificially inflated. Sell at a discount and you lose the dealership. Keeps the brand mystique there so they can sell style because its cheaper to make than substance.
10. So you concluded the forum was against clones from the glowing review posted here, and the multiple threads regarding them and how good they are? Edit: Congrats on getting the smaller font nailed though.
11. That's pretty much what strings look like under the wrap, accentuated by being tapewound.
12. Ha, these large screws at the sides can't be to adjust the bridge height, where are my needle files? Might be using a spoon instead of a file if a nut takes an hour to do.
13. Once you are wanting a different sound to the Ampeg, that opens the field right up. Being light and price are the limiting factors. I generally go for get an amp that does the sound and weight you want, and add cabs until loud enough, because can get lightweight loud cabs now. Maybe a 100w valve head will be enough and those are bunches lighter than 2 or 300w ones.
14. Seems like less good Will Turner-Duffin across the board.
15.
Good stuff. Just checked out the 1 and 3 as couldn't find 2.
Someone had issues with a song used in 2, so it was edited and retitled: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcdLPb25kAQ
16.
that was priceless! I love the fact he has a guitar with a 4mm action at the first fret and his first thought is "must be the nut"!
And claim he's set the locks in such a way the tuners still work.
17. Where is the XLR out coming from? Might be cheaper pulling out the power valves so just the preamp is running, unless its from an output transformer tap.
18. A Compact on a box should do it, don't need the massive sensitivity since you have power, height being the other advantage.
19. Its better than the 15 + 4x10 thing because the sensitivity is closer matched. The phase matching is still down to chance though.
20. This thread might help with the putting of, worked for a lot of people: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/173238-notice-for-owners-of-rickenbacker-copies/ I've had some bad RICs and good copies come through.
21. Lesson is: Context is important.
22. Criminally under-appreciated band reform with original bassist for a one off charity gig. Just noticed wasn't mentioned here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPULEPyqLsY
23.
Is this amp still for sale?

CALL 0800 456 1959 for stock information on this specific product.
