Depends what they actually do. As you can see from MDP in the ebay section, a lot of people can describe themselves as pro. This is what you get for a £45 setup from an actually fussy luthier sort: http://www.edgeguitarservices.co.uk/rout_serv/basic.htm But local guitar shop guy will do one for £15 including strings that is fiddle with the adjustables and clean the board. I do basic stuff for some bottled ales.

They were an instrument dealer, not sure they were a current Fender dealer, as in contracted to Fender currently. They sold fake Hiwatts whilst owning the Hiwatt brand though.

Replacing all of the stuff on a Squier with US stuff and all the other work and time would make it cost more than buying a Fender for a dealer. And probably make an as good or better instrument. As for the Ricks on ebay, depends if you think over a grand is easy to come by.

Body end truss adjustment is a cross screw head type thing, not a nut (well, it is a nut inside, but there would be no point in putting a bit of threaded bar in, because it can't be seen). Never take stuff to dealers for adjustment, they aren't techs. Sounds a lot like you just had a Fender, and a dealer who didn't know what they were up to and broke the end off your truss rod.

Those updates might be a bit more recent mind. Although the Squiers about the time they might look about the same would be Japanese and thus superior in build to the US ones. Also, just because someone is a Fender dealer, doesn't mean they know anything about Fenders outside of the latest catalogue.

If the name on the headstock was the only difference, then the thing you are paying too much for is the name on the headstock, doesn't mater who put it there. Buy a bass to play it, pay for its own qualities, rather than association.

Bit carved up, but an excellent deal I'd have grabbed if I was flush.

Sell at a discount and you lose the dealership. Keeps the brand mystique there so they can sell style because its cheaper to make than substance.

Ha, these large screws at the sides can't be to adjust the bridge height, where are my needle files? Might be using a spoon instead of a file if a nut takes an hour to do.

Once you are wanting a different sound to the Ampeg, that opens the field right up. Being light and price are the limiting factors. I generally go for get an amp that does the sound and weight you want, and add cabs until loud enough, because can get lightweight loud cabs now. Maybe a 100w valve head will be enough and those are bunches lighter than 2 or 300w ones.

Where is the XLR out coming from? Might be cheaper pulling out the power valves so just the preamp is running, unless its from an output transformer tap.

A Compact on a box should do it, don't need the massive sensitivity since you have power, height being the other advantage.

Its better than the 15 + 4x10 thing because the sensitivity is closer matched. The phase matching is still down to chance though.
