1. Yeah, for the scarf joint, strength is the thing, laminating necks is a whole other thing. If the scarf joint is less strong than expecting wood to have strength in two different directions, then something is really wrong with the joining. Bear in mind the fingerboard makes for another laminate as it goes over the joint. And traditional luthiers were scarf jointing necks long before American made guitars. Fairly sure Gibson did one piece necks because the wood was cheaper than the time joining the neck and letting it dry. Since I'm friends with a few luthiers/guitar techs on Facebook, I see broken Gibson headstock photos most days on my feed, very few others though, someone fell into a Telecaster and broke the neck right in the middle.
2.
the heads snap off because they are a different piece of timber from the rest of the neck, scarf jointed onto the top of the neck. They do this so they can tilt the headstock back and avoid the strings jumping out of the nut or anything like that. lots of brands don't do that, because it weakens an already weak part of the neck, but i suppose its personal preference really.
The scarf jointed necks are stronger than the one piece ones. Is all of the point of a scarf joint, the grain keeps going in the right direction, its the one piece necks with angled headstocks that break off, like on Gibsons.
3.
He doesn't know what it is, but knows it's a collectors item. How does that work exactly???
Ebay basically proves people will collect anything, thus anything can be a collectors item.
4. I think the induction loop works at a pretty specific frequency, so should be possible to notch that very specific frequency with eq, and have enough left either side to not notice it being missing.
5. Compared to a 400+ most stuff is lightweight, even Fender Bassman, aside from the massive one.

8. I had an Ohm 130 head, picked it up broken on ebay to get a start on learning to fix amps, turned out to be a blown fuse, sold it to a BCer.
9. Matching doesn't apply to preamp valves, unless you are selling valves at a premium to audiophiles.
10. Depends if it took things with it, a cap mounted on a pcb isn't a massive deal in itself, no warranty though?
11. That is one of more of the capacitors blowing its guts out. If you open it up you'll find one or more exploded, probably find a roll of mangled cardboard type stuff in there. Its happened to other ones, they either got a bad batch of caps, or cheaped out too far on them. Edit: See here: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f15/orange-terror-bass-500-exploded-917680/
12. Easy transaction, no messing about. Cheers.

14. Orange is defintiely a paying for a name over the actual product thing, they are a cheaply made amp in an expensively coloured box.
15. Well, that specific cab sounds pretty damn nice with a Sound City B50, kept up without housemate drumming, but that's girl drumming. An SC120 should get into face melting and not cost much more (because 50w amps ahve a bigger market due to guitar people).
16. If you like the sound of the LB, get a cab that is loud enough with it, probably two cabs. Valve type and number isn't the determining factor for wattage, that depends on what they are doing in the amp, circuit style and suchlike. Ditto with the tone, putting the wrong valves in an amp gives the tone of an amp with the wrong valves in it, which you may like, but the tone isn't tied to the valves, same valves in an amp with a different circuit will sound more different. You can put 6550 in a KT88 amp but putting KT88 into a 6550 amp can be a bad idea as KT88 draw more current, however a lot of KT88 are actually 6550 in a KT88 shaped bottle. Tons of vintage amps suitable for bass with EL34. What cab do you have?

Check this thread: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/3730-gain-power-and-volume-a-confusing-menage-a-trois/ This will help visualise the eq from the knobs, it is a Fender stack: http://www.duncanamps.com/tsc/index.html
18. The great thing about Vic Wooten, is that I can read his book about music, written as Victor Wooten, the great bassist who does all this stuff, and find it entirely applicable to me, a guy who's set is standing in front of amps feeding back and pulling faces for half an hour.
19. Loads more to it than gauge. But a .110 low E is what I favour.
20. The Big Baby has tones more mids and highs, which are going to be louder in an ears sense, and the Compact will have a fair bit more of them, than the Dubster.
21.
Jaco used chicken wings to lubricate this fingers. Wooten uses snot ....
Was thinking more a Bruce Lee thing.
22. I might be able to help with production of metal stuff.
