1. Probably a POS but £49.99 BIN: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rickenbacker-style-Bass-Guitar-Vintage-with-case-bag-/160870572766?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2574a222de
 2.
Thanks to all who enquired, the amp is now sold... Just not sure how to edit the topic thread..!! Graham
Need to hit advanced editor or full editor button from the edit screen. Edit: Its 'Use full editor'.
 3. The paint is stripped off the front. Binding gives a nice edge so you can do that neatly.
 4.
Um, has no-one noticed that the scale length is 37"? With an Aria Pro II neck? So it's 17" from nut to 12th fret, 20" from 12th fret to bridge. That should make for interesting intonation.
Had to ask him:
from top nut to 12th fret is 17" and 12th fret to bridge is 20" (long scale).
So can't be played in tune with music, or itself then. And in response to that suggestion:
so exactly what is the scale lenght from top nut to bridge for an upright bass?
Because 20+17 = 42.

 6. Badass II and 1/4lbers on the P, dead strings, driven ampeg. VT bass will get you there.
 7. Its because their so called evidence it was Pink Floyds is a picture of a 100 that doesn't even look the same, and he didn't use 200s, he used modified 50s and 100s that were modified from standard ones, rather than custom built (and possibly Hiwatt modified Sound Citys). Once htat bit is BS, you head toward it being a genuine Hiwatt at all being BS, since Music ground faked loads for PAs and Sound Citys, which puts it behind a standard one.
 8.
I meant clean as in un coloured. Couple of options / thoughts have come up - either a super clean head, or get myself a decent power amp and experiment with Pre-Amps to taste.
Cab is definitely the bigger deal there. Power amps are mostly designed to be clean and uncoloured across a broad frequency, and preamps aiming for clean are not uncommon (but not generally aimed at bass). Broad range cab that is flat is the challenge.
 9.
Only location prevents ownership. Anyone coming Northward?
Getting short of amps then?
 10. If it has been epoxied, then there is no hope of being able to do a good job of it.
 11. From overseas mind: http://www.ebay.co.u...=item25747a67a0
 12. Probably the cab, since they are most usually the limiting factor. Big is good.

 14.
You wouldn't use one without the valve amp..just no point, but then you wouldn't use one on a litle stage either...so you are always getting the tone from the P.A.... but the engr is not going to be oblivious on this type of gig to what the bass player has spend hours and hours and a fortune getting to. Quite prepared to accept that the Ampeg fridge is more than a tad of iconic status but I disagree that it is a poor monitor. If the SVT rig does your sound..and all you have to do is plug in, then you are sorted. You may have more in the side fills should you decide your SVT rig is lacking on any given stage/hall.
The point of this thread is people who's sound is clangy to cover inadequacies. I'm suggesting the inadequacy is the cabinets of choice, or copying the tone thereof.
 15.
[sub]But....they are great stage cabs..which is why they are used so often in that context.[/sub] [sub]For stages, you really don't want bassy cabs that bleed everywhere..it will get there anyway... but you don't want to help it any more than you can. [/sub] [sub]Gtrs detuning into bass territory is a problem best solved by not allowing them to get down there.[/sub] [sub]It can be the same with piano players and their LH.. the only difference with keys is that they may realise they have stepped on your toes when you stop playing[/sub] [sub]and given them a 'look', but with some gtrs..??? would they care...? you are lucky to be on their stage with them :lol; [/sub]
Great stage cabs if you are getting the tone from the PA, which kinds of makes them crap monitors. The problem is that most of the time people aren't playing on stage with a PA when they are sorting their tone, so they have a cab that is fundamentally not suited to what they are doing, and carry that tone onto the stage, loads of top to get some space. Having the guitarist play a different genre of music doesn't really take you anywhere, although using gear not suited to the genre you are playing sort of suggests that is the way to go.
 16. Some old valves light up loads when first on, although usually ECC81 for whatever reason. Some Brimars definitely do it, see it a lot.
 17.
I don't get that bin bag one. Maybe I need better speakers, but it sounds like someone left the petrol generator running outside the window.
Think the recording the pretty limited, the phase/chorus thing is pretty much an artifact of the recording, there isn't that much movement to it.
no dynamics, no change, no development, no ideas
When people say they are 'stripping back' their music, this is what they are aiming for.
 18.
One band who's Bass stood out in the '80s was overkill. Dd verni..very underrated IMHO .
Actually, I blame the clangy sound on SVT cabs, everyone thinks the 8x10 is the be all and end all and they don't go any lower than guitar cabs, so once guitars are detuned and bottomy, you have no space to move into except upward.
 19. The second one I listen to for fun. I'd like to say I do the first, but he played Bristol and I couldn't be arsed.
 20. Cab is going to be a fairly significant amount of colour, standard bass cabs have pretty limited bandwidth.
 21. Hard shiny inside surface is pretty much what you want to avoid, hence lining with foamy/fluffy stuff.
 22. £180 with local guy: http://www.edgeguitarservices.co.uk/rout_serv/
 23. There is a fair bit of length between the peg and the nut, I'd take out the center string, and they'd all have to move only a little bit to even out, the ones that would have to move most would be the new center pair, and they have longest tuner to nut length so angle would be minimal.
