Why not PLAY THROUGH and really examine a rig before you pass some kind of judgement based on a "blurry gut shot" and your interpretation of his build specs.
I'll play through one if its to hand, but based on the self contradictory spec, and sub par wiring (bearing in mind I have a pretty high expectation due to my field) I'd not recommend them. First thing to do to impress me would be an honest spec. Failing at first hurdle.

Better off getting something domestic.
Jaguar Amplifiers are built by musicians for musicians. We proudly handcraft all of our amps in the USA using point-to-point wiring. We use only the finest components available: Magnetic Components transformers, military grade turret boards, Mallory 150 capacitors, carbon composition resistors, ceramic tube sockets, heavy gauge aluminum chassis, customized Celestion drivers, laser-etched control panels and 13-ply Baltic birch cabinets. Jaguar Amplifiers are built to last.
Point to point, or turret board layout, mutually exclusive things, from the blurry gut shot, it is turret. And carbon comp resistors don't last, they are problematic, age sensitive components that absorb water over time and make bad noises, pretty much responsible for the random bangs and high noise floor of the Sound City 120 mkivs I have loads of, I replace them with metal film. Looks like its a Fender pre with switchable mids rather than an Ampeg, from the simple component layout and not many valves. Ampegs have a complicated pre with a two band pre followed by a separate mid control circuit. For nicely wired US made amps, check out http://dunwichamps.com/Home_Page.php mostly pics are on the Stonerrocklives forum, since that is his hangout. But we have plenty of good amp builders here in the UK. Edit: typo

Might be better getting an unfinished body and neck, and assembling hardware yourself, since you can get nicer hardware that way, especially second hand bits from people who've given up on projects/parted out bitsas. Most of my basses are built like that.

Bass rigs-the bigger the better in my experience.
Like 'em or lump 'em they're clever guys, check their hostories.. Personally I think they're great but would love them to revisit that 'myth' with a better built drive unit that doesn't exceed its xmech or shake itself to bits..
And considering it is duration of sound that does damage. -
Did anyone see the Mythbusters 'Subwoofer in a car' episode? Wasn't it 162 dB at 12Hz or such similar? Devastating! I'd love to try the John Chambers 1000w valve amp too!
That the one where they put the 'speaker' on a drive shaft from the engine? Exceeded xlim and destructed. Bet BFM would rag on their db measurement. -
Reminds me, supposed to be adding a page plug to places I've put her pics: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Amy-Dawn-Model/281747201850413

Places can repair pickups, think that is a quite fancy pickup that would be worth it over binning it.

Lidl or maybe Aldi sometimes did a handy tool set with the necessaries, that someone would buy all of and sell as guitar kits for loads more on ebay.

[now with sound + video] Acoustic bass tuned to C0 (around 16hz)

Not sure how much winning the award is going to open up. Need to convene with the other guy I made it with to find what's going on, he is enjoying not living in a tent in the mud surrounded by hippies right now, and I'm leaving him to that. Look out for mentions of it elsewhere on the net and put them up here, and see how much credit the people who designed and built it get. -
Give it a shake... If you hear a rattle, it maybe two large capacitors come off the board in the power amp section. That's what happened to mine (just out of warranty:D). The amps's so powerful is rattled the loose!!! Had mine repaired with some Russian military grade caps and it has been perfect ever since!!! Nige
The 'fix' from Orange will be hot glue. They are stuffed with it.

All the nice harmonic richness bits of distortion are in the midrange, which you are eqing out.
-
Some SMPS can be sort of sensitive to power fluctuations I think. And one of the mini Ampeg heads was sensitive to impedance (which caused issues with the mini 2x10 cabs they came with, so might not be that head). Were you using all speakon? A part pulled out jack could have shorted and make trouble.
-
Physically harder to play, hence bass lines are simpler. But the tone is better, hence not needing it covered with distortion and effects.
-
Not so much the gauge at issue as the tension, what tuning are you using those in? Also the bridge would be more of a concern than the neck. Both the bridge creeping under tension and getting tail lift, and fitting the large strings through the holes.
Very cool! It puts me in mind of a Stroh violin built on the scale of a dub system bass bin.
Pretty much the basis I was working from once the giant banjo thing was taken as far as I could. -

Sound files when Will is back from the festival. Curious to see if I see any of the prize money since designed and built it with Will in my shed. -
Almost certainly are more fuses inside.
The studio must have had a good one then.
More likely had it properly serviced regularly.
