Figure it would have made my life easier if all these people had been blocked from my auctions before I had to deal with them, this is my current ebay blocked list, comprising of people who bid and didn't pay, people who won and tried to use paypal to get unwarranted refunds, people who try and pay less once they've won, people who demand postage to overseas at domestic shipping rates (which is really stupid when we are talking 20kg amps to Australia), and a guy who threatened me with violence if I didn't lower my start price. Anyway, figured it would be handy for other BCers to avoid these numpties, and possibly they could do the same so I can avoid other numpties in future. Easiest way to get to your block list is search 'block buyer' in the customer support bit and a link comes up on the list on the right, coupla of clicks and you can paste in the list. They can still message you unless you fiddle with other settings. cabinet suggestion for sound city 200 custom built
Mr. Foxen replied to krysh's topic in Amps and Cabs
Mine works great with my Super 15. The 69er imitates a crude cab that will choke off the lovely lows from that mighty Partridge iron, those amps were designed and built to a massively higher standard that Ampegs SVTs, and don't need to compensation of such a coloured cab to let them do their thing. You do need to get the output jacks modded, as by standard they are shorted unless you have two jacks plugged in, which is kind of a pain. If you go speakon, get one of the ones that shorts if unplugged. -
When he is stringing,he might be pulling strings through at an angle so the coating scrapes off on various edges, need to pull through straight till the ball end locks, then bend over the bridge. Rolling the string around a curve fatigues a lot more area that plain flexing it (this is the flaw with roller tremolos).

[now with sound + video] Acoustic bass tuned to C0 (around 16hz)
Mr. Foxen replied to Mr. Foxen's topic in Build Diaries
It was tuned to B most of the time we were tinkering with it, because lower tuning is Doom. Did put it through my BFM Omni 15 and had people coming to see what was going on. -
Could be an issue with how he installs the strings, or if he sweats on them loads (will generally make them die quicker too). Elixirs are good for sweaty sorts. There are all sorts of metal fatigue things that can be happening. Hard to explain in text.

[now with sound + video] Acoustic bass tuned to C0 (around 16hz)

Vaguely attempting to contact relevant people to see if they want to do stuff with it, Les would be good, but need Europe based people. -
[now with sound + video] Acoustic bass tuned to C0 (around 16hz)
Mr. Foxen replied to Mr. Foxen's topic in Build Diaries
Just noticed the picture has been updated on the site. I'm not going to the festival, loads of travel to stay in a tent and I got pretty annoyed at the space where we did it when people kept asking if it made sound, I'm not an artist so the level of expectation that I'd put that much effort in making something without function pretty much made me angry. Will, the other guy that worked on it will be there, and the guy playing it, who kept talking about his pedals, another annoying concept when I've been building it to work acoustic. He'll probably want to plug it into a combo or something. Be sure to mock him if he does. -
There is a binding gap, you can make it out in the back view, is the thing I look out for.

Tech21 finally make a Class D Sansamp head but ....
Mr. Foxen replied to Clarky's topic in Amps and Cabs
Quite right sir. The chasis of the IPR is almost totally empty. It really is quite frightening when you look inside. Why they ever needed the 2u chasis is a mystery to me unless it was to implement cooling better through the front grill.
Best way to isolate things from noise is to separate them, and air doesn't way anything like shielding does, plus shielding isn't an ideal solution since it means the noise goes to the ground path. -
Really dark board says this might belong here, any other tells? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1979-Rickenbacker-4001-bass-rare-vintage-classic-Mapleglow-skunk-stripe-neck-/120946979473?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item1c29007291

Mr. Foxen replied to justjazz's topic in Bass Guitars
Same tuners as my CMI. Looks basically the same too. -
Tech21 finally make a Class D Sansamp head but ....
Mr. Foxen replied to Clarky's topic in Amps and Cabs
One thing IS for sure, Tech 21 have the 'Ampeg/tube drive in a pedal/DI' side of the market covered very well. I imagine its very hard to compete with their quality and durability, and more importantly, the TONE, with anything else. I have sold so many BDDI's for them just by showing them to fellow bassists who have seen me going direct. Yesterday I spent a few good hours with the VT Pedal and I am still floored by how good it is. It makes me want the Deluxe version but I'm quite happy with what I've got.
I use Sansamps even though I have awesome valve amps. More is more. Eventually I'll use them into a lighweight solution for jams and such, but class D power sections need to get cheaper than valve amps first. -

Peavey IPR and pedal. Think there is loads of space in the IPR too could probably get the circuit in there if its in the right places for pots to go on the front. -
See sig for some low A action. didn't use a detuner though since that was all low A, I use them currently a lot, and miss them if I'm playing a bass without.

Mr. Foxen replied to davidlovellbass's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Ebay hassles you to put a shipping cost in enough you end up putting something like that in out of frustration. -
I dont care what is "in" and never have. I play the bass that feels, sounds and looks right to me in the here and now. Why be a sheep and follow the rest of the flock?
Best way to get really quality basses really cheap, hence my having some really nice pointy BC Richs.

Decent techs will be able to fix class D and SMPS amps fine. The advantage of the discreet component stuff is half arsed cheap techs can fix them too.

Super 12s aren't the low endy ones. And I've never heard of anyone finding the limits of a single one.
