1. Our drummer is the best musician in our band, but suffers from a lack of confidence and stage fright. We keep bigging up his playing and his confidence is growing. Our singer sings flat however and is stopping us from getting out gigging. Trying a new one out on the wknd tho!
2. Whilst mooching up and down the aisles in HMV the other week I came across CD's issued by bands such as:

Get cape, wear cape, fly
The front bottoms
f***
sh*t Disco
and back in the day (of punk) there were notable bands such as

The Snivelling Shits
Toe Jam
The Queers
Makes our name 'The Reserves' sound rather.....well....reserved! LC PS: Saw 'Massive Scrotum Damage' on a band name generator site the other nite! Quite catchy I thought....
3. Hi Gadge, Thanks for the reply and the points you make are all valid. I don't presently have any rack ears for the R500 but I'm sure I could lay my hands on some. The review on Talk Bass I had read before and it's all fair comment. I played through an LMII at our last rehearsal (paired with a crappy old Peavey cab admittedly) and I still prefer the 'old school' tones of the R500 plus it suits the stuff that I play which is mainly classic rock. I believe the 'R' stands for Rock?. Still very interested in the deal minus the Amp if you can find a buyer for it. Thanks again, LC
4. I'm holding out for the Asda Smart Price Bass Player Tee!
5. Pm answered, thanks Al. I'll post this securely in the Warwick Gig bag and then inside a Fender box that my new P bass came in last week. LC
6.
Gary, you can have the contents of my allotment, thats several cabbages, some sprouts, courgettes, runner beans, peppers, tomatoes etc etc... generous offer or what! In all seriousness, this looks like a fabulous bargain for someone, sadly I don't have enough cash so that someone won't be me Although I can vouch for your instrument care, as I am loving your old fretless
Lol, that's a lot of Veg Deb!!! ...and thanks, I do like to look after my gear and glad you are enjoying Stanley! G
7. Would you do this minus the amp? I'm thinking that my R500 might fit in that slot? Cheers, LC
8. Thanks for all the comments guys! I'm on my second glass as we speak. Seriously though, it's a real result if I can 'give birth' so to speak, to another bass player in the world and I found the teaching process very rewarding. First time I've taught an adult. I just hope he doesn't want daily lessons! LC
9. Well, Pat (which is short for something!) has had his first bass lesson! Lovely chap he is too. He has a fair understanding of music from playing keys and a bit of guitar so knows note values and scales so we were able to make a bit of progress. I got him to do some basic open string exercises to start with to get his right hand in - crotchets, then quavers across the strings etc. I wanted to get him playing to some music quickly so I chose Yellow by Cold Play which is very easy for bass - lots of repeated quavers and patterns for the left hand. His right hand was very natural, able to keep time and rhythm. I had to remind him to keep his left hand parallel to the fingerboard at times but he picked it up very quickly and appreciated playing some actual music! He's left with his homework and I am a bottle of JD better off! Same time next week! LC
10. The general store just around the corner changed hands a few months ago and is now run by two Sri Lankan guys. Very amenable they are too, plus they sell Jack Daniels £3 quid cheaper than Tesco's!! Anyway, the previous owners had ordered bass guitar mag for me and I went in yesterday to pick up the new Jaco issue. One of the guys asked me if I played Bass - conversation ensued. Turns out he's a well known singer of Bollywood style music and goes off to London regularly. He told me that bass players in his community (Tamil) are rare and would I be prepared to give him lessons? So, a deal was struck - bottle of JD per lesson! Marvellous! LC
11. Nice one Deb, say Hi to Jon when you see him. LC
12. If you want to see bigger pics, search for the 'French Filth' thread on here and you will be able to expand the pics, or I can e mail them to you. LC
13. That's a bargain! I was wondering how these sounded. I have a black top P bass with a similar pup arrangement but I think they are different in that the pups on the P are 2 sets of 2 stacking humbuckers. The ones on the modern player look like 2 x 1. Nice finish too, won't be around long at that price!
14. "The sound of wood" is the company's strap line. I had a Corvette $$ a while ago and it did sound immense due to the huge MEC pick ups positioned right in the middle of the body. Long and short is that you can get one to sound like almost anything!
15. How many carrots does your Cabbage have, and is it 4 or 8 aubergines?
16. Back up for sale. Including a padded Warwick gig bag. Strung with Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky's and Schaller strap locks. Really great condition and a real 'player'. £180 or nearest offer please. Thanks for looking, LC
17. I now have too many basses and something's gotta give. So here we have a 2011 Vigier Excess II in custom trans black (£150 option). Gigged once last Christmas but now languishing in her Vigier branded Hiscox hard case. Graphite rod in neck assures stability, versatile 2 band eq and Benedetti pups. The build quality is about as good as it gets, and these hand made instruments have a modest but loyal following. This one is 'mint' having only had the 1 gig and 6 or 7 rehearsals. All case candy included as is the original invoice from Bass Direct. I'm looking for[s] £1200[/s] [s]£1100 [/s]£950 FINAL PRICE DROP, which is a huge chunk off the list price. Posting not a problem as I've sent top end instruments via courier in the past without issue. Of course, anyone living in the South Wales/Bristol area is very welcome to a cup of tea and to give her a try before hand. Thanks for looking, LC
18.
Also quite like the dings they pick up throughout there life, bit like us and wrinkles ! Also you could pick it out as yours if you had to
Aye....true! As for pics, whats the score with uploading here, I've tried and it says I've exceeded my 30mb upload limit???? Is that a site thing? LC
19. Saturday morning update! So after a night on the wine, the door bell went at 8.30 and the parcel express dude was standing there with the box. I could have done with a nit more of a lay in the sleep off my hangover, but hey, that soon disappeared! Getting it out of one of the new SKB's (very substantial), it does have a very slight 'knock' on the back. I suspect it has been looked at in the shop and picked up this ding there as one end of the box was taped up. That really makes it an ex demo and therefore it should have been cheaper but I guess it was already £100 cheaper than the one in Dawsons so I'll live with it. The finish is superb with the lovely ash grain showing thru, although I suspect that this particular finish will 'ding' easily and will show. The build quality looks good. I like the rolled fingerboard edges which gives it a 'played in' feel and the neck pocket looks super tight. One thing that irritates me about new Fenders is the fag of having to take the knobs and retaining washers off in order to peel off the pickguard film. The polishing cloth supplied also leaves yellow fluff all over the place so that has gone in the bin, replaced by a lint free cloth - no fluff! I've spent the last hour noodling to some Stones numbers and first impressions are very positive. The bass has a very satisfying dry, dubby thump which is typically Precision, but you don't get it on all of them. The tone is warm and importantly 'even' across the strings and rolling up the tone knob produces a nice 'bite' or 'edge', quite growly actually. The neck is comfy with a matt finish, headstock is varnished. I haven't put it on the scales yet but it feels nicely balanced and certainly not battleship heavy, which I expected as Ash tends to weigh a little more than Alder. Again, the strap supplied will be great on a 6 string electric but too narrow for a bass, why do they supply straps like that for basses? The real test will be band practice. Unfortunately, our drummer is on hols for a week so that will have to wait a bit. All in all, I'm very happy, with only slight irritation at that tiny 'ding' on the back, there were only 9 of these that found there way into the UK (apparently) so, nothing I can do really. LC
20. The bass gallery has one with not quite so nice a 'top' on it for £999
21. I bought one and moved it on shortly afterward. The pick up poles were badly out of alignment and try as I might I couldn't get itany better. Had some rough fret edges too. It did sound pretty reasonable to be fair, but the build issues put me off. I do realise that this can happen with any bass at any price. The VM Jazz I had seemed to be way above the P for build quality and the Duncan designed jazz pups sounded superb! I bought the P blind so my fault! LC
