1.
Ok well I'll come in from a different angle to what most people will say on here......... I've been playing bass for 30 years on and off (big time off halfway through that 30 years), but I don't know any theory. At all. I don't know what notes I'm playing at any point at all, apart from E A D G, the standard open string tuning. I picked up a bass because I heard Tina Weymouth, JJ Burnel and Colin Moulding....and because I loved the sound so much, I wanted to have a go myself. I've never been one for learning someone else's basslines note for note (unless it was for a tribute band and it was expected of me), and I can do that no problem, but it's not "FUN". It's not creative. A lot of people will advise learning basic theory, etc etc, and they're wise words, honestly, but ask yourself.....WHY do you want to play music on a bass guitar? To be technically great in a few years time? Or because you love music and want to have fun? For me it was the later. I learnt to play, by playing along to my favourite music, with my bass, making up basslines that sounded good to me, and I had fun doing it. So I'm still doing it all these years later because I still enjoy it, and I learn everything by ear, and by listening carefully to what the music needs, NOT what amazing techniques I can throw in there. Theory is probably a good idea to be honest, long term, but don't forget to have fun too, otherwise there's really no point. Just my opinion, many will shoot me down, but whatever.
No, I agree with every word of that!
2.
Is the business, is what I should have bought in 77 when I bought sunburst P. Only one possible improvement on this bass had it been available at the time, string through body bridge . Best wishes with sale ,it is a super bass.
Thanks, I'll be very sad to see it go.
3.
I don't think it should have those thumb rest holes or cover holes based on other precisions i've seen. It looks original to me and it dates to 1979. Here's a couple, note there's no holes on these: http://www.normansra...ision-bass.html http://www.talkbass....nt-blue-824201/ I hope this helps?
Thanks, it does help

5.
Man, I feel for you, having to sell that, it`s a beaut.
Thanks Lozz, Appreciate that budd.
6.
hi This used to be mine , I don't know if this helps but I bought of a nice bloke in Gloucester a while back , I don't know if the covers are original but he said they were never fitted from new - so I guess no screw holes ! I can confirm it's a peach of a bass and immaculate condition good luck with the sale , I might have some pics , I ll put them up if I find them
Ha, nice to know where she came from. As I remember there was a cover in the case (at Bass Direct) but obviously not attached to the Bass. Mark kept it? which I thought was a little odd at the time. There was only 1 tho, think it was the bridge one. Thanks for confirming how nice it is!
7. Hi Chris, Thanks. There are no holes for covers or thumb rest and the serial number indicates '79. Mark in Bass Direct assured me it's all original. Come on you Fender experts, should it have had screw holes? LC
8. OK, I don't really want to do this but the fact I'm not playing it and my daughters impending 18th birthday is telling me it has to go. I bought this from Bass Direct last September on a bit of a whim as I was just amazed at the condition, it really is unmarked and It plays as good as it looks. I've been too afraid to gig it and as I'm playing my Vigier more it doesn't come out of it's case except for the occasional 'noodle'. I can't seem to upload any pics at the mo? So here is the link to the pics I put in the Gear Porn section. http://basschat.co.u...ost__p__1418864 I'm looking for £1200 please. Thanks for looking.
9. Good luck with that, I'm a huge Robin Trower fan, saw him in Cardiff a while ago and he was awesome! LC
10. Lovely Zon Mick, Good luck with it, LC
11. That's one of the nicest Precisions I've ever seen! Good luck Dave, it won't be here long. LC
12. Ok I give in....seeing as I am about to buy my daughter her first car, the first person to come up with £675 can have my beautiful PRS. If it doesn't go in a week I'll start playing it again and then I definitely won't want to sell it! LC
13. Ha, yeah, that's the one - fantastic thanks!
14. Good luck with the reunion, hope you find your Aria! LC
15. My new band are playing one or two tracks so I bought the latest compilation True Confessions A's B's - absolutely blew me away. There are some 'corkers' on there, especially "You got my Number". There appear to be some killer bass lines too. Don't know too much about them, my era, but I was listening to Floyd and Genesis at the time. Anyone else play/rate them? and I'd like to know more about their bass player too? LC
16. I have a '96 Samick factory Squier P and i'ts bloody good. I asked my new band to tell me which Bass they liked the sound of best. They preferred the Squier over my Vigier and Vintage P with flats! I've told 'em they're all tone deaf ha! Go for it.
17. They are good. I have a 2x10 and a 4x10. Nice and light, well made, good sound.
18.
In my band, its more or less just straight out pop/punk (Think Busted, Bowling For Soup, Sum 41, etc....), although it did once range from pop down to the heavier end of the spectrum (Trivium, Bullet For My Valentine, etc...) At home, depends on the mood i'm in, it could be anything from the poppiest of pop (Think Gaga, Jessie J) to the heaviest things i can think of at the moment. I'm alot more musically versatile (Is that the right word?) than i look. Liam
Bullet FMV rehearse in the same studios where I go. I picked up one of Page's plectrums the other day which is now in my guitar case! Good Welsh Band.
19. After just over a year and three recent gigs I'm moving on to a new band, so The Deceptives now need a new bass player. Primarily a blues band with a bit of classic rock thrown in. Peter - Drums, late 40's - very laid back Martin - Guitar, late 40's - likes to learn each song thoroughly Recruiting for a new singer - trying a couple out first week of Feb Practice in the BBC club - Landaff for free or the Music Box Cardiff. Current set includes: Fleet wood Mac - Merry go Round Fleetwood Mac - My heart beat like a hammer Clapton - Crossroads Eddie Floyd - Knock on Wood Brian Adams - Summer of 69 Beatles - Let it Be Clapton - Knocking on Heavens Door Road to Ruin - Mr Big Ain't no love in the heart of the city - Whitesnake Would suit someone of a similar (ish) age, laid back, perhaps returning to the Bass after a lay-off I'm very grateful to Pete and Martin (and Donna - our ex singer) for a year of learning and really getting to grips with the Bass but I'm off to pastures new very amicably. Pm for more details Cheers, Gary
20. Mostly listen to classical music at home - Schubert Quintet, Mass in B Minor Bach, anything by Brahms. Band plays 70's classic rock - Free, Deep Purple, Led Zep, Sabbath, The WHO...and Modern rock - Chilli Peppers, Nirvana, Stereo's, REM, The Strokes Anything with a tune basically !
21.
I've got an amp and a guitar I'd be up for trading, but I'm not sure how I'd get them to cardiff!
Thanks, but looking for cash or a Bass... LC
