  1. Morning.

They are in-house Bacchus Custom P.

Remarkable clean and even sounding PU`s. Just a slight twist of one of the volume pots, and the sound changes. Same with moving the right hand position where the strings are played.

  2. I`d actually categorize it more as a supercharged passive Jazz, with plenty of Omphh but still clear as a grand piano.
A bit torn about whether to keep it. Only reason it shouldn`t cost as much as say a used Mike Lull (which I played earlier)is that Bacchus isn`t particular well known in Europe, contrary to Asia.

  3. New price: 1000£

New listing as previous was priced incorrectly, plus addition of spare set of PU's.
Open to offers and trade with other 5 string. Willing to add money for the right instrument.

    Hi All

This is an elder 2011 bass that very likely never has seen a rehearsal room, nor a scene.
It is as new part from one tiny ding on the rear of the neck, and some surface marks on the edge of the body  from resting in a stand.

34" scale, 44mm nut width, 18mm string spacing, 4.4. kg and passive.
Ash body stained in a nice brown color with matching scratchplate, which, stills has the protective film attached
Ash neck with rosewood fretboard with beutiful inlays. Slightly tapered profile from a flat D in the upper rigister to a more
soft C shape at the head. Quite nice actually. Furthermore there's a Tortoise binding along the edge of the neck.
High quality passive electronic parts, dead quiet but still room enough for an onboard pre-amp like a John East model.

I have a pair of new Kent Armstrong HB5E3N/B pick up's which fits in the slots for the existing PU's. They'll be supplied along
with the bass as part of the buy.

I've found a youtube link containg this model in a 4 string ash fretboard version. Due to the playing style of the reviewer
it doesn't really indicate the versatility and quality of the instrument.
The second link, despite a different, and lower prices model, is better.

Price contains a 50£ reserve for shipping, if above we split the rest.

  4. Hi All

In an effort to save up for another bass, up for sale is my Bacchus Super Woodline 5 .

Not interested in trades unless you have a high end 5 string and willing to take this in as part of payment. Trade value 1500£ as the retail for well above 2000£ new.

    Kind Regards

  5. Replied to libanass in a PM as the dialogue expanded.

I'm actually uncertain of the age, potentially around 8-10 years.
I bought it through Lefay directly as the former owner had ordered another instrument from them.
Collected it myself at their workshop in Northern Germany and got a lovely chat with Reiner & Meik.
    Wonderful people!

  6. Bass Player Magazine once did a very comprehensive test of Jazz Bass pick-ups which clearly indicated quite som differences in balance of the frequency spectrum from thick or thin bottom, in your face- or reduced midrange and sizzling treble or simply rolled off top.

But, if you like me have a tendency of always dialing in the same sound, irrespectively of the instrument and amp  I play, it probably doesn`t matter that much.

I recently came across a youtube link with a guy slapping on a Bacchus bass and must admit it`s the best slap sound I`ve ever heard, so don`t think changing PU`s is the first area of attention with this brand.

    Sorry for hijacking the thread

  7. Lefay 5 string Herr Schwarz with quite a history.

As some may know, Jerry "Wyzard" Seay of Mother's Finest has been playing Lefay basses since they started  back in the 80'ties.
At the time when the Herr Schwarz model came out, two basses were made for Jerry with a special logo between the Pick Ups saying "Wyzard.
The basses were delivered to Jerry and over time one of them made its way back to Germany where I bought it recently, as an addition to the
two Lefay Capone and Carlsson basses that I have.
It's a powerhouse of a bass with the noiseless Rough Crystal PU's, two band Noll pre-amp, and a 4 way PU selector/blend knob.

Only reason for a wish to trade is that I suck at slapping on a 5 string, and would like to get a similar quality instrument, preferable Lefay, but as a 4 string.

The bass is in a used but good condition, with numerous belt marks on the back. Attached photo's are taken Friday 6.November 2020, i.e by me.

Requested features on the trade-in are: Active - minimum 2 band, high radius (flat) fretboard, slim neck profile (preferable D shaped), 19mm string spacing at bridge.

Looking forward to your offers, and for the right instrument, a bit of extra money from my side could be possible.

    Regards
    Thomas

  8. Back in the late 90'ties, Bassplayer Magazine did a very comprehensive test of 5 string basses, also known as the 5 string shootout. All basses were selected for posessing a certain level of quality. Acacia was included in the test and described as containing alot of wood in the sound, organic, perhaps slightly compressed. Ideal for fingerstyle Jazz, Fusion and RnB, i.e. great tone over massive punch.

Pretty sure it'll be a pleasure for the next owner who's willing to invest in a rather unknown brand.

  9. At twice the price this would still be the bargain of the year. Can't think of a cleaner and straight forward Jazz bass than this. Unfortunately I only play 5 strings otherwise I'd bought it in a heartbeat.

Somebody will be a very happy future owner of this beauty.

  10. Up for sale is my Aguilar DB 659 tube pre-amp.

Quite rare as you don't see them often. Condition is almost as new. I had it "serviced" a year ago

only with the feedback that all was in perfect condition. Tubes (Tungsol) are new, but original Aguilar stamped

tubes will come with it. Perfect amp for tube rolling as the 12ax7 can be substituted with either a 7025 or 5751

    if less gain is wanted.

Will ship fro Denmark with cost included in the price.

No trades as I have all I need for the time being.

    Regards

  12. Hi Basschatters

Up for sale is a bit of a rarity, a Focusrite Tone Factory pre-amp.

I bought it recently (curiosity) from a local professional musician who have had it for years for studio work , always kept in a stationary rack.

Condition is excellent, both external as well as internal, with noise free pot meters and switches.

A quite accurate and fulfilling review can be found in the link, which I generally can support. Not as transparant as my former

Glockenklang Bass Art pre-amp, but nothing else really is, and there's a substantial price difference.

Only selling as I'm simplifying my gear and already have two other pre-amps to play with.

  13. Seymour Duncan Studio Bass Compressor.

As new, only selling as I've bought a pre-amp with a compressor included.
Dial in your tone, and leave it switched on continuously, it has the ability to become a natural part of the sound.

    Original cardboardbox included.

Photo from the net, I'll forward a photo of mine to buyer, before shipping (currently in our rehearsel room)

    Kind Regards

  14. Hi Basschatters

Up for sale is my main instrument from the last 10 years, and only reluctant sale given the "One in - One out" principle
as I'm concentrating on fretless in the future.

This is one of Mike Lull's earlier creations with a sn. of 479. I guess it's around 20 years old, and brought to Denmark from Ney York
by a professional danish bass player, of whom I previously bought another of these basses.
For those familiar with these basses, the age can also be detected by a slightly larger head than the current models.

We all love our instruments but this one is simply the best of the three M5V I have had over the years, hence the one that stayed the longst.
A "pick up and play" instrument commented by all those who have admired, and wanted to try it in the time I have had it.

    Spec:
Beautiful and rare Burgundy Mist finish with very minimal scrathes and marks. None on the front
Alder body is my best guess, irrespectively that there is a bit of Ash bark/growl in the sound when recorded.
Graphite reinforced Maple neck with rosewood fretboard. Frets recently polished and no signs of wear
35" scale 21 fret neck  with 12" fretboard radius. String spacing neck saddle 9,5 mm and 19 mm at bridge which can be adjusted (sideways) if preferred.
    Weight around 4.3. kg
Mike's special wounded Seymour Duncan PU's and 3 band Aguilar pre-amp with passive by pull of volume, and 2 mid frequencies (400/800) No passive
    tone pot.
THE SPECIAL FEATURE: Instead of balance it's fitted with a rotary swith given you:
Front PU alone - like an old Fender Telecaster bass with the single coil PU.
Both in parallel - Everything you want with a Jazz Sound.
Rear PU alone - Pure Jaco
Both in series - Powerful almost Musicman type of sound

This is as close to a classic vibe modern build "Working man's do all instrument" as you can get, hence why it's been my go to bass for 10 years.

And as you can see from the last photo, a small guy like me, 1,82m & 75kg don't have any issues playing a 35" scale bass (Photo from our rehearsal room and not a prison cell :0))

Price including shipping to main Europe and a Mike Lull gigbag. (Will be professional packed for damage free shipping)

20/09/2019: Taste is a subjective matter, but as the yanks are sayin' "Tort goes with everything". Like the tough decision every man faces, blond or brunette? You'd be the judge on that one (spare high quality three layer pickguard from Chandler in the US for one of my previous M5V's - will be part of the package free of charge)

    Kind Regards
    Thomas
