I just tried looking online to find a fender jaguar in white with a tortoise shell pickguard, and it appeared that they don't sell them anywhere in any colour, and they are not even on the fender website.. How long have they been discontinued for? and is there any way of getting one brand new? Cheers

Hey there I was just wondering, are there any gloves available for bassplayers? Because I am fed up of standard strings such as rotosound sounding dead after 3 hours play, and Elixirs only sound good for about a week, due to my corrosive sweaty palms. It's expensive as hell and I really cannot afford it, so if there any type of gloves I could buy that I would be able to play bass with? Thanks!!
Thanks, thats the one i have wanted for a while now. I cant decide wether to go for that one or the VM 70's Jazz bass, i really like the look of that one too! Decisions decisions!! They are both the same price so I'm really really stuck now!
Both the vintage modified jazz bass and the vintage modified jaguar are great bass'. If I were you, out of all the Jaguars go for the non special one with duncan designed pickups and block inlays.
Refund dude.
Sure? Out of curiosity, what is the consequences of having this crack in the neck, like what is going to happen to it eventually? Thanks
is it actually a crack or a grain line or a crack in the laquer? It could any one of those from your pic. TBH it doesnt look like the right shape to be a crack I have seen in necks before..... But I'm not close enough to see it.
I'm pretty sure it's a crack in the wood, unfortunately? I have two options: 1. Send the bass back and get full 260 pound refund. 2. Accept around 70 pounds compensation for the crack, which I could use to buy a new neck. Maybe I could trade this neck and my £70 for a maple neck, is that realistic?

Hey, yes the truss rod works. No he didn't mention it, but there was one picture showing the dent above and you could slightly see the crack, but the crack is not that obvious in the picture until someone actually mentions it.

Hey there, I bought a mexican fender jazz with seymour duncan hot stks for 260 the other day, and I just noticed this 'crack' in the neck (on the brown wood line). Is this serious, and is it going to affect playability or affect the bass in the long run? Thanks

Hey I use a SVT3 PRO and a 410HLF, and it sounds really dead and muddy, and the HF Horn sounds quite dodgy, it crackles and pops when I touch the pickups on both my active precision and passive jazz. So I have ruled out that it may be the bass, and i'm pretty sure it's not the head, so most likely cabinet. Does anyone know what is making it sound so rubbish?! And how much it would cost to fix? Thanks!

f*** rotosound, waste of £20.

After 6 months of using Elixir nanoweb bass strings, I decided to make a change because I wanted something brighter. Today I put on some rotosound swing bass 45-105 strings. When I first put them on my hand was getting stuck and not moving up the frets at all, I had to actually lift my hand up to move a fret. Then, after an hour or attempting to play like this, my strings sound as if they have been on for about 3 months. I don't know why.. help!? I have had previous experiences with rotosound like this.... Maybe it's something to do with me having really sweaty hands? Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks
I think you need to keep going mate. These sell in general for alot less than that secondhand, as you can get them new for I'm afraid. They are very nice cab, one of my favs Good luck
Second that. Great cab though, works a treat with the Ampeg SVT3 PRO
I've only got experience with the Passive EMG's,and I can't say I've noticed a great deal of difference to the originals.(Tokai). As you've already got an active bass then I think that would be a step backwards. They do look the part though.
I think i'm going to stay with active. Any experience with active seymour duncans?
-
Would you recommend the passives over the active?

Hey there, I was thinking of upgrading the pickups on my active fender precision special (MIM). I'm looking for a really detailed 'stringy' tone with a lot of clarity, and I heard EMGs would be best for this. What do you think? If not, what else would you recommend? Thanks in advance!
-
Sansamp Bass Driver DI! It's great for gritty rock tones, and it's pretty good at enhancing your clean tone too.. recommended!

Active fender precision special sounds dull
Ok..there isn't much the amp can do if the signal is being strangled, as it were, or rather, hindered somewhat..!! If it were me, I'd have a go at the set-up myself but if you don't feel confident about this...then take it to someone who knows 1st time round. I only know a few amp techs in Maidstone but maybe there are a few gtr guys in Medway. I would suggest Andy Crockett and maybe ESE have someone on their books. This sort of thing should be done by referral, IMV, I wouldn't suggest any old gtr would know what they are doing...they may well do..but I like a referral, myself. My amp tech is a Maidstone guy, I'll ask him. I need to get him along to a local gig in Maidstone this sat so will ask around.
Thanks for the help everyone. I will take it down to my local music store tomorrow and see what they can do for me. -
Sounds like the general set-up of the bass is not that great. You need the acoustic sound of the bass to be clean...and it should be if the strings are pretty new so is the acoustic sound good or dull as well. If the acoustic sound is dull..then your strings aren't resonating well enough and you might need to take it to a gtr tech for a decent set-up... If the acoustic sound is fine..then it could be pick-ups not being good enough or shot. A poor set-up can kill strings IMO and give the bass a dead feel all over, possibly.
the acoustics are not great if i'm honest, this is probably the most likely reason at the moment. Thankyou! -
The stellah cheap I put on my P bass is ok and for £13 you can't go wrong IMO. Not sure if it's going to be the root of the problem, Maybe a pup swap is on the cards too ?
I was considering that.. but I need to know what the real cause is of why my bass sounds rubbish. My bass sounded good in the shops, and i've played the same bass in many other shops and it sounds really good with stock pickups, so I don't think that's the problem. Could something with the wiring or the pots be causing this? -
Silly question but have you changed the battery or using a good one rather than a cheapy.
yes sir, changed it multiple times and yes they are good quality! thanks -
Are you using Roto strings? Some folk like them and some people like a dull P but if you want some zing then that's the first thing to lose if they are Roto's.
hey there, i've used a lot of brands, rotosound included, both the nickel and the steel ones. My current set are elixir, they sound better, but my bass in general still sounds rubbish! thanks for the input! -
Hey there I own a MIM Fender active precision special, and basically it sounds really dull most of the time. It sounds okay for the first day after putting new strings on (nowhere near as good as it should sound) but after that it is lifeless, it makes my ampeg svt3 sound absolutely rubbish. I've played the exact same rig a few times when I was in the USA in the summer, and it sounded so much better than mine does. So I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas of what it might be that is causing this? thanks in advance! I am pretty sure it's the bass that is the problem here as it sounds horrible when DI'd too. thanks for the help, I think I will go with the BDDI for now. Cheers!
-
thanks for the responses! If I boosted the mids on the active EQ on my bass, would it compensate for the mid scoop on the BDDI?
