The Stanley Clarke style alembic Shorty did it for me. I mainly play long scale 5 stringers but i prefer the a short scale 4 string over a long scale 4 string. 😊

I use Barefaced 12" speaker cabs for all my needs. For reggae gigs it's always the BTII, though I do have a Dubster II if the need arises. For jazzy stuff i still use mainly the BTII or BBII if i'm in the PA. I'd like a One 10T.

Ever get that "Didn't realise how lucky I was" moment.....?

A beauty for sure and one of my favourite alembic body styles. I have one that was originally purple and Toby Diggins removed the colour for me and resprayed with clear finish and now it's just the natural quilt maple top. I think mine is 1989. -
It's All About the Mods! (Show/Tell Your Modded Basses)

This is an Atlas Galaxy Shark bass. A hand made bolt on neck 35" scale bass from Vietnam. I changed the electronics to two sets of ACG filter based electronics packages, i think were called EQ01. So it has individual low and high pass controls for each pickup plus a master volume and pan pot. I don't gig with this bass but use it for some rehearsals and the odd jam session. It's a really good sounding bass with a vast tonal pallate from the heaviest wolly dub reggae to sharp glassy slap tones. The switch is not used in the current configuration. just realised these are the before pictures but they can stay till i find the new pictures. -

I've not tried many basses actually, and it would be easier to list the ones tried. For example i've never tried a Fender P-bass.

I had two Vox headphone amps that sounded ok but all the plastic made them lacking in durability. So i got a PJB Big head and yep that mini usb socket broke away, i had it repaired but the tech told me it will soon come off again, he was right. If PJB had theirs made with a USB-C connector it would have lasted longer. Now i use my Stanley Clarke Acoustic preamp as a headphone amp. All the connectors are proper and it sounds great. Not cheap but it's a well made piece of kit.

I don't doubt there is a chance it could be an urban myth, though it's a new idea to me. My gear sounds great as it is set up for gigs. It was mentioned on FB and i posted here just to get some responses from more knowledgeable bass players regarding the pro/cons of micing the port. I have never seen it done at any gig pro or otherwise either, and personally I have no interest in using that method.👍🏾🎶

This picture is from one of my gigs and is my regular setup with the DI out going to the FOH. Sometimes the cab gets mic'd also. Depends on the sound engineer. But it never crossed my mind to mic the port. Not something i'd do so my post really was to find out what the pros and cons of doing it would be.

I posted a picture of the rig I was using for a reggae gig last weekend on a facebook group and one of the bassists there suggested that for reggae I should put the mic in the speaker port. Now that is not something I have ever thought of doing on these BF or my previous Mesa boogie cabs. My understanding is that bass ports are tuned ports so i think sending that signal to the PA would possibly be void of frequencies that are needed for a decent FOH sound. I haven't ever had any complaints about my sound so i have no plans to try his suggestion but my curiousity is aroused and I just wondered if anyone here has an experienced view on this.

Good point. I will see if I can transfer this to and remove this one from here.

Never used one but, doesn’t it affect the sound and sustain of open strings that you want to ring out? -
My dream bass has always been a Stanley Clarke style Alembic, and fortunately I was able to save up enough pennies to get one and it's lived up to all my expectations.

The Bass Show UK - Cranmore Park, Birmingham - March 1st and 2nd
jazzyvee replied to Goliath_FX's topic in Events
I think having it more centrally located in the country makes it a more accessible and affordable trip to make for more bass players. Good Move. I've been to the guitar show there this year and last year. There is a large carpark and no extortionate car parks like London. 🙂 -
Fender Stratocaster works for me.

Does anyone know what the frequency range of the Dubster 2 is?

I've just started depping in a tribute band and they have two sets. 1 hour set and a 90 minute set split into two 45's. I'm gigging with them tomorrow on two gigs, a 1 hr set at a festival in the afternoon and another in the evening of 90 mins.

If you like jazz don’t go to a jazz festival
jazzyvee replied to triplebass's topic in General Discussion
I remember a few years ago going to a Jazz festival in my city and we were there for the weekend and there were no Jazz artistes on the main stage, and we saw two jazz bands one on in a shopping centre and the other in a small gazebo nowhere near the main stage area. All the bands we saw on the main stage were good bands but not jazz. Good job it was a free festival. But I haven't been to it since then unless there is a someone I know playing jazz there and go to support their gig.
