  1. Actually the Dubster 2 is passive cab and I have used mine as a stand alone cab on reggae gigs but prefer using it with my big baby II.
  2. Depends on how much your neighbours love bass!! 🙂 I hope you find one. I don't use mine a lot but when I do it shows it's worth.
  3. Yeah, sound guys don't tend to like too much sub bass on stage so not using mine as much as I had hoped but these days when I use my big baby II and Dubster II, which is like a passive FR800 and passive LF1400, :-), I use them on a separate channel on my power amp and just put a bit of the dubster it in to add to the low end density without it being noticeably loud or over powering. It makes the low volume sound much fuller.
  4. I have just picked up a Peavey Minimax 600watt for a relative just starting out on bass. I was pretty surprised how nice it sounded in the shop without twiddling any knobs. Anyway I took it home and plugged my barefaced cab into it and it still sounds fine but not as good as it sounded through the ampeg cab that I used in the shop. I have an old mesa boogie cab which is going to a new owner soon so I will try it with that later. Maybe it will sound better with a "voiced" bass cab rather than the FRFR barefaced. So far few a couple of niggles which would annoy me but may not faze my relative as he is a new player. 1) The fan is pretty loud. 2)The buttons for the presets make an audible click through the speaker when pushed on or off. 3) The labels on the controls are inset into the front of the amp which makes it hard to see unless the amp is close to eye level. But I guess after you get used to the amp you will be familiar with the controls by their position rather than the labels. Any views on this amp? Good or not so good.
  5. Am in right in thinking that because this has a USB connection that I can plug an MP3 player in it and one of the presets would make it suitable for that to get a full range sound? ( albeit without the crispness of a tweeter like the FR800). Or is that for some firmware updates?
  6. Good point, maybe i should sell them and get a vintage P-bass........... "I'll get my coat"
  7. I had a good gig on Friday night at camp bestival. First gig for the band since around March 2020. Lots in for late this year into 2022. Felt great to get back on stage after so long.

Short clip from Friday night's gig.
  9. Nope not forgotten about it just still experimenting with different volumes and settings. I have currently found a level where things don’t go “crack” and had a gig last week Sunday with my BBII and it was fine as it was a low volume jazz gig. But i still need to discover the cause as i have more gigs coming up soon. My basses are all active and run at dc voltages of 9v, 18v or 36v and cracking happens with them all. I tested all the leads including the speaker ones and all were fine. I bought a set of new patch leads for my preamp input yesterday only because the existing ones were the plastic moulded ones and a bit too short to fit comfortably.
  10. I have one of those, had if for about 13 years, a really high quality well thought out bit of kit.

I'm gigging on bass with Musical Youth at Camp Bestival this year 30th July 2021 Not a bad start to gigging post lockdown. https://www.campbestival.net/line-up/live-acts/musical-youth
  12. Im a big time alembic fanboy and wasn’t thinking anything bad just wanted to grasp your point. 👍🏾
  13. I use new ones of those strings on my series II, as the top end is crisp but smoother than regular steels. But once they loose their brightness, i then move them to my europa which is the bass i use for warmer music such as reggae. It means i can use less eq to get the tone i want.
  14. Wow that is a nice looking alembic!!!
  15. it tends not to happen when the amp is on full volume which is how I've always used power amps in my rig previously with no such issue. When it's on full it's too loud to dig in and be near the cab so but when it's under about 3/4 and playing with emphasis, that's when the crack sound appears if I play the lower two strings.
  16. I have never blown speaker before so don't really know what to listen for to determine this. I have been getting my gear out at home to check it all out as there are some gigs looming. I haven't powered up my rig for most of the Covid-19 pandemic period and if so just quietly. My normal way of using my rack system is to have the power amp on full and bring up my pre-amp gain (usually only up to 2 or 3 max) till I find a good balance and as my basses are active, the quality of sound doesn't suffer if the bass is on low. Anyway what is happening is that when I dig in a moderate volume on bass with the above arrangement, there is a loud crack sound from the speaker if I hit anything low G and below on the E or B strings. I have tried both my BTII and BBII cabs and both exhibit the same noise. Any idea what is going on?
  17. I'm would like to get in touch with the BC member who bought an Alembic IN-2 rack unit from the auction. Could you PM me. Thanks.
  18. Yep that is true, i went there about a month or so ago to get a fret dressing and new bridge saddles cut for my alembic and I got it back in 3 weeks and I was told they are working full bore on their own instruments and only take on the odd few simple jobs.
  19. Good thread, i have been thinking of one as a replacement for my pjb big head in which the battery is dead, no longer charges, and the usb socket no longer connects consistently. Plus i could use it for and gigs where i won't be using my own rig and can plug directly into a the power amp section of a backline. Usually they have more knobs and sliders than i know what to do with. The stereo option would be good when using my stereo basses into a mono head, plus a decent DI to the PA.
  20. Is hanging the bass on the wall with a hanger type grabber out of the question?
