A good mate of mine has just bought himself a Markbass rig but i've yet to hear. I do recall doing a Jazz Cafe gig about 8 years ago and there was an old markbass 8x10 cab so I used it instead of my Mesa boogie 4x10 and man that sounded great. Up until I got my BF, that was the only backline cab i've used that was memorable for sounding superb.

I use those dunlops on my short scale, and being a former string bending guitarist i like that string flexibility on a bass too.I wonder if you have noticed that these Dunlop strings have a tendency to roll under your fingers when bending especially above the 12th fret? Something i haven't noticed on my D'addarios. I'm open to the suggestion it may be my bad bending technique if that is the reason.🤔😎

Are you brand loyal? My first dive into bass cabs was Mesa Powerhouse. I ended up with a 4x10, 2x10 and 1x15 of which the most used was the 4x10. Sold those and replaced them with Barefaced due to better low end performance, weight saving and as i found out, my ears heard better sound quality. BTII, BBII, DUBSTER 2, LF800. Initially i was looking at the first dubster after speaking to BF and they were going to loan me one to try out but the bassie from UB40 was still using it on loan. So i later got a BTII.. Main cab is still the BTII, then BBII singularly or in combination with Dubster if not in the PA on an outdoor reggae gig. LF800 so far has only used with my EUB and schertler Unico. So i guess i'm brand loyal and could see me adding a One10T at some point.

May be a different outcome if you are a colour blind bass player. 🤪😂

Snap, i use the 17's for when i'm gigging and 20's when i am attending a gig.

I managed to leave empty handed, not even tempted so pretty much confirmed i've now got all i need bass and rig wise. Had a good chats with Mark from @Bass Directdirect, Andrew from @Anaconda Basses, and @skelf and got talking to a guy who bought an ACG bass. Downstairs at Guitar Show was pretty noisy at times. Nice time tho.

I've been a couple of times and bought a ticket on the door. Never had a problem. That said, because it's bass and guitar, there may be more footfall than last year.

My understanding is that this is the concept behind Alembic pickups, they are non voiced low impedance pickups and merely reproduce what the string is doing without emphasising any particular part of the frequencies. The player can then choose what their sound should be using their filter or bass/treble controls. That said, the sound does not appeal to everyone.

What age does a bass, or any musical instrument for that matter, need to be to be classed as vintage?

Can't say i've ever seen or heard a PRS bass so no idea what they sound like, but the two on the left appeal to me visually👍🏾

I know that area and if you head towards the Stratford road (A34) on Cranmore Blvd and turn right in less about a mile, there are loads of eating places in Shirley shopping area. if you get a taxi bus or drive down to Parkgate Shopping Cente(ASDA) you can park there and if you come out of the car park there are loads of eateries there from pub grub, Whetherspoons, Desco Lounge to Indian restaurants along the high st there. There is also a KFC next to the BP petrol station on Stratford road and MacD's if you turn left on stratford road out of Cranmore, and head back towards the M42. Hope that helps.

I remember this response mica made many years back in response to a bass on sale on ebay that was re-finished by an owner, so i doubt if much would surprise them, and the love their basses to be played. 🙂

I unwittingly bought some sets of fake d'addario strings a few years back. Unfortunately they were to keep in my spares box and was probably about 6 months before i got round to installing them and the ball end had loads of sharp bits of the winding poking out of the wrap. Since i'd never seen that on d'addario's i emailed them with photos and the packaging and they told me they were fake. Contracted Ebay but it was too late to get any action taken. Never bought strings on ebay since.

Exactly, i was fortunate to squeeze in a factory visit in 2023 whilst in the states, i had also been to their Santa Rosa facility. On both visits there were loads of basses there at various states of build. Many with really personalised custom options such as inlays, electronics and exotic woods at prices i can only imagine. So whilst they are not cheap, there is still a healthy new build market for them even with the bargains to be had on the used market.

Well i may have a buyer for my Alembic Europa 5 string which i have had since 2005, and will definitely regret it.
